Basically we are happy for them to get stuff, they whine when get something and always make fun of us.

That's a little one sided, don't you think? I've seen just as many Mu/Mi collectors fuming over the new offerings for Marvel Legends. That path travels in both directions.

Putting collectors into "types" doesn't really work. Collectors are diverse, so you can't say 3.75in guys are "good", but 6in folks are "bad". You've got the good, the bad, and the ugly with all kinds of collectors: toys, cars, stamps, etc.

Ya, I realized how stupid that question was.

Not a stupid question, just one that cannot be answered without veering into silly cliches and stereotypes.

I meant about her identity. It was painfully obvious even early on.

OK everybody, first I'd like to apologize in advance if my actions screw up anything for anyone... earlier I was looking at china bay mostly at the headless legends that seem to be worth there weight in gold, and the 6" avengers that are clearly not legends. It got me thinking if these folks can produce factory grade figures (probably illegally) why do they only make copies of existing figures? clearly they could produce a factory painted kit bash of a new character, right? hell, they could probably whip up some factory grade packaging. or more desirable paint schemes on existing figures. So I decided to try to break into this seedy underground world of international toy bootlegging. my first step, contact the only guy I have access to a china bay seller. Plan good, execution.... iffy at best. I sent him a PM on ebay saying: "hello friend, I am curious about illegal international toy bootlegging, namely how to put in a large order for a custom figure. I'd like to work with you to develop original figures biased on the molds I feel you have access to. I represent a very large consortium of American Toy collectors that are hungry for new product, Product that traditional toy companies are failing to provide. I feel if you could provide me with your production costs and methods we may be able to work something out, Thank you." I didn't realized until I had sent it, and read it back a few times did I realize I sounded like some bazar cross a cop, and a 80's movie drug dealer. I hope he doesn't close up shop. I still think my idea is sound, make a limited run of MU original figures design them ourselves packaging and all, pick up the numbering at the original line (plus a missing #23). plus what would be more collectable than limited edition pirate toys from the factory? Make them put out a quality product, explain that they can make more per unit than Hasbro. I've also done some research into "grey marketing" this is a huge loophole where by, through the right distribution methods otherwise illegal merchandise is distributable in the states (U.K., sorry buddies your country has imports buttoned up tight. you could barely bring in legit stuff).
anyway I think it's doable.

Madame Warlock 07-27-2015 07:37 PM

Okay i'm new and have been looking for a community that's good with this stuff, so I have a ton of questions.

1) When are the rest of the 2015 MUs out? Do we have any pictures of Rogue? I've desperately wanted her but it wasn't worth paying for the pack. If it's redeco'd to be like the modern version I'm really interesting.

2) I noticed someone posting Emma Frost and others on Taobao - is it worth getting those versions? What's the difference? Does the final Emma Frost have a cloak?

3) Could someone recommend a good base body for a Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan figure? One that's a bit smaller than the others. I had to use a Microsister figure before and those are hard to get(and not the best looking). I'm also looking to make Pixie, America Chavez(probs. going to use a Psylocke I ordered).

4) Are there any people to actually get in contact with with regards these lines? Marvel Toys used to talk to us. I'm particularly upset with the lack of X-men & female Guardians(only Armoured Gamora, no Mantis, no Phyla Vell, no Moondragon). And the reduced articulation... even a waist cut would make these figs so much better, with little interruption to the sculpt.

5) How likely is there to be a 4" line for Civil War? Will it be any good?

6) Where's the best place to pick up cheap MUs? I've been getting them off Chinese eBay sellers. They tend to come without weapons. Missing a Sword for my Valkyrie in particular. Would really appreciate finding some general MU accessories - swords, guns, etc. even just to have a surplus.

Good luck! If you could pull this off, it would be spectacular!

For those interested, here's a pic of that Thunderstrike I put together with the ball socket in the head deepened. Looks much better than it did before as far as I'm concerned.

@Kylactus. Without the first sentence, your message seems like an actual business proposal. Don't use 'illegal bootlegging', alternative venture maybe?

kylactus 07-27-2015 07:46 PM

why not? using everything I've learned about drug dealers from "the wire" I'd assume we just have them ship us the product, we distribute it, and pay the Chinese back. now I know if anything were to go wrong there could be.... unpleasantness...But I think it would be easy.

yeah that was my biggest regret. I just wanted him to be comfortable discussing things openly.

K Dubious 07-27-2015 07:57 PM

I have had this idea for far too long. I feel like each individual part that has been in the MU line should have some unique Part number, And how awesome would it be if we could order those parts factory made in any color we desired. I truly feel like it would change the toy game.

kylactus 07-27-2015 08:06 PM

I want them to produce all up rounds! I want a classic saber tooth! MIP! I want a slutty Gamora that bends at the waist! T want a banshee, and forge MIP! I want wolverine in his brown costume unmasked with a brown jacket! I want a black queen! all factory fresh!

I see this as the future. Eventually we will all have 3d printers and buy plans not figures. hack, we are close to that now. I just expect to see the big names get into it. Probably long after they should like the music and movie industry did.

Judging from the AOU crap we're currently getting, we'll just get some poorly made 5 POA crap for Civil War. The only well articulated stuff I'm expecting to get based off of Civil War are just repaints of old figures. Don't expect good movie figures in the 3 3/4" scale. We're not getting anything good anytime soon. For now, I'm a little pissed, but if we don't get anything good for the Infinity War movies I will be extremely outraged! But, I hope we can at least get something 3 3/4" for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie sequel since Hasbro knows for a fact that a lot of kids and collectors will buy them based off the success of the first movie.

Kamatayan 07-27-2015 09:09 PM

I have a question for the adult collectors here. If you really need money to pay off taxes, a broken car, or whatever, how do you restrain yourselves from selling your collection? I'm not at the age where I pay for all this stuff but the idea of having to sell my figures for an important cause when I grow up haunts me.

deathofthelines 07-27-2015 09:20 PM

Learn from old psa's stay in school study hard hope for a bit of luck and don't worry about it too much we all have these type of thoughts but unless it's actually happening you should be OK. Also i suggest 2-3 bucks every so often go to lottery tickets. Just saying you can't win if you don't play.

it's all about the love man, My collection is at the top of my possessions list, it'd be one of the last things I'd dump, that said if you NEED to sell off something from your collection you can always buy it back later. It's like pawning to yourself. think of them as short term micro investments, if you collect MOC. but if you say got a Spider man series anti-Venom set for retail at 12.99, you could sell it for at least 100$ in a pinch, then later when you have the money buy it back, all you borrowed the 88$ profit you made off of the first sale.

ukmu 07-27-2015 10:36 PM

Finally, adding a proper Groot to the collection. Pics to come soon.

The UK isn't that tight, I've got my Knock off Hulkbuster same as everyone else. I would not have referred to it as illegal, you did come across a little Policey

1. Throughout the next 5 months the waves will come out. Rogue is still listed, but we've seen nothing of here so far
2. Don't bother with Taobao, eBay will get the figures & some will come with accessories. Emma comes with a cape & belt.
3. The old MU female buck I'd say. Everyone used it til X23, and Kitty does look shorter than Danvers probably because of her larger head.
4. No-one will talk to you from Hasbro, right now Hasbro Marvel hates 3.75"
5. Unlikely anything more than 5 POAs
6. Every so often someone will sell their collection off cheap on here

ukmu 07-28-2015 03:18 AM

Welcome to toyark Madame Warlock, hope you enjoyi it and share stories news pics and complaints! ;)

Taobao is fine. Some use it most don't

We may see a Civil War movie line. Expect Thor quality at best and Age of Ultron at worst. My money would say no to seeing 3.75" line at all.

For weapons try different casters (Google 1/18 casters)alsotryMarauderGun Runners for military weapons.

ukmu 07-28-2015 03:22 AM

@ky

Two things... One, you DID sound like a cop
and B. your English is was far to wordy. English is the sellers second or third language.

I write to many of them often. They each seem to have one person that speaks broken English poorly. Try using simple words that translate well and stick to one syllable words when possible. Hope I did not come off as a sterotyping, but I do communicate with them often and I myself am an immigrant and can sympathise with not understanding.

That's fair, every time I receive a message from a Chinese seller the English is broken like an old Toybiz figure.
