I know Miles, Spider-Woman, Ultimate Goblin

I might be missing one or two, so if so...lemme know...but here's what I know of so far...

Toy Biz Legends:
  1. Series 8 Captain America
  2. X-men Classics Series 1 Wolverine
  3. X-men Classics Series 3 Iceman
  4. X-men Classics Series 3 Ultimate Nightcrawler
  5. X-men Classics Series 3 Ultimate Sabertooth
  6. Fantastic 4 Classics Series 1 & 2 Fantastic 4
  7. Spiderman Classics Series 9 Ultimate Rhino
  8. Spiderman Classics Series 11 Ultimate Dr. Octopus
  9. Spiderman Classics Series 10 Ultimate Lizard

Hasbro Legends
  1. Ultimate Iron Man (Annihilus Series)
  2. Ultimate Wolverine (Diamond Exclusive)
  3. WW2 Captain America & Nick Fury (twin packs series 1)
  4. Ultimate War Machine (Ares Series)
  5. Captain America (Hit Monkey Series)
  6. Hawkeye (Rocket Raccoon Series) [Not exactly, but I've always considered this to be the Ultimate representation of the character, due to his unmasked portrait and design that borrows heavily from the Ultimate design.]
  7. Amazing Spider-Man Electro (Ultimate Green Goblin series [another iffy one, I consider it an Ultimate version simply because in the Ultimate universe, Electro often was depected with blue skin and dressed in black, which I firmly believe was the inspiration that the film took from it.]
  8. Ultimate Beetle (Ultimate Green Goblin series)
  9. Ultimate Green Goblin BAF
  10. Ultimate Spider Woman (Hobgoblin series)
  11. White Tiger (Rhino Series) [Another iffy one. I realize that she's present in current Marvel continuity, but she's also on the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, which I believe this version of the figure has more in common with.]
  12. Ultimate Spider-Man (Space Venom series)
  13. Ultimate Spider-Man Miles Morales (Space Venom series)

There were also several Marvel Select figures that were made of Ultimate Characters, such as Hulk, Carnage, Iron Man, and Venom...

Speaking of comics, anybody got any recommendations for somebody who's been out of the loop in regards to recent comics?

Indie books ;)

Nutimus Prime 07-10-2016 03:05 PM

Anyone have tips for packing a collection for a move? Last time I just moved across the road so I hauled it across easily. This time I have to pack everything into a POD then have it delivered from Washington to Florida.

I have tons of boxes, a good amount of bubble wrap and some thicker storage Ziploc bags. My Transformers I'm going to wrap individually with bubble wrap and put in the boxes. The Masterpiece and 3rd party will go in their boxes. I do worry about the effects on them but I'm hoping for the best. Unless anyone has any experience.

I'm more worried about the Toybiz and Hasbro Marvel Legends. There's more paint on those and being inside the POD for long term means heat, humidity, etc. Any experience here?

First we'd have to know which characters or teams you'd specifically want to read up on.

I've never moved my collection across country but I have kept figures and comics in a storage unit for a few months in the summer without any problems. I live in Tennessee which isn't as hot and humid as Florida but we aren't known to have cool and dry summers here either. If you pack the box well, you'll probably be ok putting your ML in a bag. The soft plastic used for capes, cloaks, jackets and skirts can pick up paint marks from other figures so you want to have a layer between the figures. Your ziplock bags will work but if you need extra bags you could use plastic Walmart bags. ML are pretty sturdy so unless your movers are playing football with your boxes you shouldn't need to baby the figures too much.

There are a couple of members here in this thread that live in Florida that could give you some good info on dealing with the humidity. Hope some of this helps.

I'd really like to read up on the new Spider-Man and also if there's anything good going on with the X-Men (not sure what their current status is right now).I also have a particular fondness for the street level heroes like Daredevil and Punisher.

Also if there's any other new characters you guys would reccommend.

For Marvel stuff pick up Marvel Unlimited. Tons of stuff from 6 months back and older. A few of the post Secret Series have shown up if you want semi-modern.

I also enjoyed DC Universe:Rebirth but have read nothing else since the one-shot.

Most Legends should be alright for the move. I did a trip a month ago with them packed in a U-Haul from IL to KS in the heat. You can get archive quality bags if you are really worried but half of mine were in Ziploc bags and had no problems. A few years ago I had my stuff in a storage locker from July through June. The Legends were fine. I actually only had issues with a couple of the metallic paint Transformers in my collection.

As for moving and storage, I would recommend the Hefty brand plastic containers. I had one other container and the Hefty fall off of a stack in the truck. The other one broke but the Hefty did not have a scratch and everything inside was fine.

For Marvel? Nothing. I read Secret Wars, and while I enjoyed it, there was nothing in there that made me want to read any of the current stuff. I'd rather read the older stuff I have missed out on.

Uncanny X-Men has been surprisingly good. I haven't been a regular reader of comics since 2001 but have been trying to get back into it since last year. I've been enjoying the current arc. Extradionary has been a disappointment IMO which is sad because it's made up of a good chunk of my favorite team lineup from the early 80's. I've had to drop it though. Plus the artwork has been garbage.

Dr Kain 07-10-2016 06:51 PM

doesn't the new X-Men stuff have Cyclops married to White Queen instead of Jean and he is a douche bag villain?

Regarding street level characters I've always been a big Moon Knight fan but while his new volume has gotten off to great start it's also reliant on the reader being familiar with his history. If you could get your hands on the previous volume though, those first six issues written by Warren Ellis were amazing and the rest of the volume remained good without requiring intimate character knowledge.

Nah he had a bit of a mental breakdown and instead of non violent tactics he went all by any means necessary. I enjoyed it. Uncanny Xmen it was by Bendis.

All you really need to know about Moon Knight in his history sense is that he was raised Jewish, his father was a rabbi, and he had a younger brother whom he eventually killed when he turned into an axe wielding serial killer. He fought in the Vietnam war and then became a mercenary when he found out he was good at killing and kinda liked it. Then his origin story happens where he gets betrayed and killed for growing a conscience but he's resurrected by the Egyptian god Khonshu to be his avatar on Earth and his knight of vengeance. His friends are Frenchie (his longtime pal and pilot), Marlene (an archeologist and his girlfriend for a time), Crawley (an old bum type who helps him out with his street smarts), Gena (a local diner owner), and his other two personalities because he's literally insane. That's pretty much the basics on what you'd need to know to jump into the current volume and not wonder who the hell everyone is or why they're there.

Also thanks for noticing the Ferrell in my sig, it was a very funny-strange show so I figured it'd be the perfect source material for the thing that is shown under every post I make. Because sense.

Yeah the yellow does win points for being the original costume, and its inclusion in the TAS gives it a huge leg-up in terms of popularity. I like to think that it was his Alpha Flight uniform, suiting their team's colour scheme more, whereas his brown suit is what he wears with the X-Men, because Xavier forces him to wear something other than a tank top and jeans!

Cullen Bunn is fantastic. I highly recommend his run on Magneto, which has now evolved into Uncanny X-Men. Hopefully he will shall be creating X-Men comics for years to come, or at least past the next big relaunch.

Extraordinary, on the other hand.... I like Magik's new costume?

Ooo yes he is. Scott and Emma have been together since.. 2004, I believe. After House of M, where 99% of the world's mutant population was depowered, Cyclops stepped up as the leader of mutantkind in order to keep his race safe. It's been the best thing to happen to X-Men comics since Chris Claremont.

On topic: Aah, the SDCC set has finally been announced. Purple Man and Enchantress are my ones to watch for on Ebay, it seems. Really enjoying Amora's dubious smirk!

Apparently Beast also pulled the younger versions of the originals from the past. Young Scott got to find out just how big of a douche he became and hates his future self. I am sure those who really reads the X books could elaborate. Most of what I know is picked up from the few X/GotG crossovers they did prior to Secret Wars.

To be fair cyclops has always been something of a douche. Sometimes a goody goody douche other times a rear eschelon mfer doucher...but the douchey-ness is there. ;)

Thanks for the info. He has a complex story line which is kinda cool,I'm definitely getting some of his issues this week they sound really good.

One of my fave moon knight stories was the annual ( remember those? ) during the atlantis attacks event.

I haven't read anything since Secret Wars #1 (and the Age of Apocalypse tie in, just viewed it as self-contained because I can't resist AOA by Fabian N.) but I am keeping up with the storylines though forums, so I'm kind of half in the know. I have heard nothing but great for UXM by Bunn - considering checking it out. If I did, how lost would I be if I only read that series? Keeping in mind i would still have general knowledge of other series through forum recaps...

All you need to know for Uncanny X-Men is that mutants are once again endangered because the mist from the Inhumans is poisonous to them. I can say more, but I don't want to ruin any surprises.

VonPooten 07-11-2016 07:33 AM

To be honest Nash, I think you'd be fine! The MU skipped 8 months between Secret Wars and the All-New launch, so there are hanging plot points that even avid readers don't know about yet (such as what happened to Scott, where certain characters are, etc).

The only thing you'd need to know is that Sabretooth was inverted during the AXIS storyline, and is now semi-good. Aside from that, you're good. I would recommend Bunn's twenty one issue run on Magneto, though. It's excellent, and gives a very solid foundation to this series and his motivations behind such, but it's not a requirement by any means. The only downside being that Gabriel Hernandez Walta didn't follow Bunn to UXM, but Greg Land's artwork has been... acceptable, thus far.

Edit: Official photos have appeared of the SDCC set. Purple Man's head sculpt looks spectacular.

Captain Nash 07-11-2016 07:42 AM

Thanks both Spyne and Von. I will check it out. I know through recaps about the mist (I think that's mainly covered in Extraordinary isn't it?. Very familiar with Axis and up through the Last Days, the Last Days stuff is where I dropped off reading.

So I'm taking it that after Secret Wars it wasn't so much a reboot as a recreation with a few additions (new characters that Marvel wanted to add in from other universes.) Characters that were dead are still dead. So it's really not like I though it would be, it wasn't really the end of Earth 616 more like...the universe had a hiccup, it ended for a moment but came back just slightly changed?

So confusing in a way. But if I ever chose to get back on board (aside from UXM will I think I will try out) it wouldn't be like a whole new reality.
