Made the thread for discussing the whole bootleg thing. Here's the link: http://www.toyark.com/mass-producing...30/#post612702

I don't consider it a crime if we produce figures Hasbro will never make, right? especially if we don't profit from the figures then it's art right? and if we distributed it via a private auction on ebay, then we're purchasing a product from china on ebay, then passing them out to friends at cost. I see no ligule issue here. were commissioning art from china.

This is the only one of the line so far that I have and the only pic I have so far too. Sorry it's not alongside MUs. I might get a pic sometime eventually though. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8572/...2fdc611d_b.jpg |
You would have to make a lot of product to show up on Hasbros radar. Technically it is copyright infringement. It all comes down to proving that you profit from the line. Even customizing them for profit is a crime.
To manufacture in small batches like this you are looking at most likely $50 a figure. Design, tooling, manufacturing, painting and shipping.... could even be more until you purchase several hundred units. Also, this is a discussion on Marvel 3.75" so enough of the annoying "topic" talk. There are literally less than 12 posts about this spread out over 10 pages. In actuality, casting is stealing. What Vort, Glassman, Nomad, K Dub and now even Pilk do is piracy. In a court they could be used for vast sums of money affecting the next generation of their families if the Disney litigation machine were so inclined. Cease and desist letters would go out first, and if ignored- then legal action would follow. Anyway Ky, talking to the person that answers emails from a.seller is not the route to go. That is akin to asking the check out girl at Wal-Mart about manufacturing cost of paper towels when buying them.from there. Write to I Am Elemental producers, write to Boss Fight/Marauders people and find out WHERE to find the manufacturing people. We all want better Marvel figures. We won't see it from Hasbro, so at least this is a start. Imagine though, a perfect 90's Storm for only $85 would very people buy them? On a.see note, did you guys see an Emma Frost figured auctioned for $152.50 the.other day!!!! Crazy! Also got our second SDCC green H.I.S.S. tank in! Gonna try to squeeze n a quick HYDRA shoot later. I still feel bad for poor Ant-Man from the last shoot! ;) Any suggestions for whom HYDRA's next victim.should be? One last thing..... with all the contests, fantasy leagues and secret Santa talk.... would others be.interested in donating a figure each into a large pool for an ultimate thread give away? Theme and rules to be discussed later...smooth ;-) everyone could enter, not skill or luck.based? We all would enjoy getting free Marvel 3.75" figures I think! (Those casts are coming well Pilk, good job) (It is ok if you prefer soft goods Jedi, I still love you) And a big internet hug to all, for reading this forum thread brings a smile to me daily and I truly enjoy each and every new of you!!! |
Those disc wars figures are SUPER cheap on taobao right now. Pennies on the dollar. Some one posted comparison pics here a while back. They are smaller, maybe not actual 3.75" but closer to 4"....and our figures are bigger than that. Might be goes d for kit bashing though.

^That actually looks really nice. Good choice of figure too, I actually liked that buck, although it was a bit on the short side, it represented "normal in-shape humans" unlike all the taller superheroes.

http://www.toyark.com/attachments/33...6-mvc-115f.jpg I keep Spider-man 2099 posed on the top of the throne normally while Doom sits in it. Toy Biz's Hulk 2099 I sold off though. And don't rationalize what you're saying on the bootlegs/knockoffs. What you're talking about is highly legally questionable and is stealing money from Hasbro as well as materials. Casting is different as it entails physical labor and original molds by casting themselves. You'r talking about actually using Hasbro parts and molds. And it's not that they "won't make it" it's that you don't want to wait for them to make it. Custom figures are an entirely different thing as the majority of us who do make them or tweak our own, still purchased the mainline goods to do so(like if I wanted to mass produce Doom 2099's on a small scale to sell, I'd have to purchase Hasbro's Dooms and Ultrons). What we do with the item after we purchase it, or how others may pay for how we modified it, is entirely different than paying someone that took parts from a factory or used actual Hasbro molds without compensating them. For kitbashers, Hasbro or Mattel got our compensation by the initial purchase we made for the parts to make whatever we make. For mold casting people. They created their own molds, used their own resources, and provided their own labor. That's why most companies look the other way on those. Now it also varies region to region. Like doing something like that in Japan is outright illegal unless it's for a Convention or Trade Show where the law is more relaxed on sales of items of that nature during. I'm not saying I'm for or against what you're doing. All I'm saying is be a little more forward and honest about what you're suggesting, and a little less entitled. |

EDIT: I've got it, but the translate option isn't popping up! |
I'm very torn on customs depending on how it's done. I have no problem with paying someone for a one off (or they may do several but not mass produced by any means) that is done from materials that they have paid for the figures for, and gone through the labor of kitbashing and repainting. I think for those of us with very little customizing skills this is a boon. Plus they are doing it per customer request and investing time money and effort for every figure done.
On the other hand mass producing seems less like something I'd support. They're not purchasing EACH mold they're making. It's very much akin to buying a CD and then making massive amounts of copies and selling those. Or DVDS. Unauthorized distribution and what not. I'll look the other way but I can't really support it either. But then again, the company I work for actually is a copyright/licensing company so I'm kind of obligated to do so anyways. |
The Disk Wars Thor is absolutely amazing! Too bad they're short. But right now, I'm only interested in Wolverine because of how short he is. If only Thor was the right size! But if you put the movie Hulk head on the Hulk from this line, I think it would look great!

Not trying to offend anyone who watches anime. In fact, I love anime. It's just that the Hulk in the anime and the figure looks kind of stupid.

People of the world....How the hell do you order from Taobao?
I can translate everything until I need to enter my shipping information.... I would prefer to pay by paypal for a bit of protection, but hot damn there are some cool things on there. I keep seeing this German Soldier in a cream colored version of the SDCC Red Skull that looks awesome plus they have loads of Indiana Jones which is what Hasbro and I used for our custom Hoods, plus other stuff I didn't realize I needed until I saw that it was less than a dollar on some MU figs. |
