No, they did not lie about tooling, as I quite clearly explained in my previous post.

On several occassions Scott Neitlich made it quite clear the figure would not be made. And said that without the other 12 figures they could not tool Doomsday. The fact that this Mock Up was made indicates that it was tooled.

Overtly cynical, but I must admit it's a possibility.

On the other hand, I feel I have to mention Mattel is not the only company to do really stupid and/or obscure homages. Hasbro has done that several times with Transformers, Star Wars and G.I.Joe.

I'm not saying you have to like it or anything. All I'm saying is stop treating it like it's a factory screw up. Just say you don't like it and move on.

You're joking, right? Ever heard of someone changing his/her mind before?

Yes, DDU is not going to be made now. That does not mean Mattel was never going to make it, which is what you said in your previous post. They fully planned on making DDU, but weren't able to get enough pre-sales of the sub to cover the cost of its production run.

Sorry but Mattel is making Doomsday Unleashed...

Truth on Hasbro, but how much of those "obscure homages" are 30+ dollars and only can be bought online? Just saying if they are charging an ungodly amount for something, they better be sure that people actually want that shit.

People actually don't, just in case no one knew.

Apparently so. I think I mentioned it elsewhere, but Hasbro has also tried to get unreleased/cancelled figures out if they feel the demand is still there, so I'm not all that surprised with Mattel's actions. My guess at this point is that Mattel was hoping to make a big announcement to save face with DC fans and someone let the cat out of the bag (or the killing machine out of the containment suit) and Mattel had to accelerate their plans.

At least all the DCUC fans will finally get the chance to get a figure they really wanted, even if the road to get there was mapped worse than a faulty GPS.

No argument here. I don't have any interest in the figure, either. But I at least respect the designer's intentions. Same thing I do with a lot of those eHobby Transformers (which I would say is comparable to Mattycollector stuff in this situation).

I also understand the frustrations of being forced to commit to something you don't want in order to get things you actually want. There's more to it, but this neither the place nor the format for that type of discussion.

Tiberius 08-20-2014 11:29 PM

I just don't understand why they can't just make 6 awesome figures a year [voted by fans the year before] make then, sell them, and make billions! BILLIONS!

I should be boss.

Tiberius 08-20-2014 11:34 PM

And it's frustrating because fans get blamed for not "buying enough subs" and all that jazz. They just refuse to see the issues in front of them and fix them. I miss getting monthly figures in the mail by Mattycollector but their way of business is a major turn off, so I had to stop, even if it hurt.

I also blame Mattel for making Hasbro make cheap as hell Marvel Universe figures for the future lol.

Honestly, I think Mattel Lost a lot on the Total Heroes Ultra I know that the Two are not connected but the DC Rights are DC Rights they are probably hoping to recoup what they lost on the Total Heroes Ultras. I do not think the "Doomsday Mock Up" photo was a Mistake it was a "MISTAKE" which means done on purpose so they could see how fast they could cause an uproar.

It was suggested before even by me. I did a Mock Poll and I was able to figure a Whole year complete with Club and SDCC exclusives. I think any of us would do a better job then DC/Mattel. Shoot if I remember the year was Batwoman, Merlyn, Speedy II, Granny Goodness, Lady Shiva, Isis, Spoiler, Aquaman 90's, Ice, Superboy, Robin 5, Doomsday Unleashed (Club), and Shining Knight with Victory (SDCC)

Yeah, because DC fans totally agree on everything, all the time. :rolleyes

Putting out the Doomsday figure will not "make up" for any losses that Mattel may have incurred from Total Heroes Ultra. At least not in a one-for-one scenario like you've suggested here.

It'd be more like Mattel lost $4 on one line and made $6 on another line, so they are $2 ahead now.

As I said before, it's possible. I'd like to think that Mattel wouldn't stoop to something like that, but I'm also cynical as hell and wouldn't put it past anyone.

I also recall there was a lot of contention with your line-up as well.

It's fun to play armchair quarterback sometimes, but it's never as easy as it appears on TV.

CMIII 08-27-2014 07:58 AM

 And Mattel's figure choices were the best possible  I believe it was something on the Order of 12% about 4 figures per year that people actually wanted..

Honestly I wouldn't put anything past Mattel Look at how the year has gone this year for Mattel. Their only line that hasn't lost money is Monster/Ever After High so doing anything to bring in Money would be expected.

CMIII 08-28-2014 08:52 AM

Ok two questions...
1) Is there an estimated price for Doomsday Unleashed? what is it?
2) Now that the Total Heroes Ultra failed is there an Idea or plan for the 6 inch DC's future?

TheBlueMarvel 08-28-2014 09:17 AM

In light of TH's untimely demise, I could easily see Mattel spitballing ideas on how to resurrect DCUC. Given the handling of Doomsday Unleashed, I wouldn't be very surprised at an announcement in the not so distant future of a return to DCUC.....in fact, I'd welcome it. I just don't see them sitting pat on a huge license like DC's trove of characters.....

I doubt they will jump back to the DCUC stuff... The Management team of Action Figures would need to wake up tomorrow and realize they are wrong. It's hard enough to get them to Admit that they caused the ending of the DCUC line. These are people who believe that If it works for one line it should work on others, Meanwhile the other 5 lines they did it with all Failed. And that their own Line matter more then the people paying them to represent their Product (Essentially Mattel is working for DC).

Elements of what you say may very well be true, but I can't see them doing nothing. DC is too big, too mainstream of a license to leave languishing. Egg on their faces or not, they have to produce something. As they prepare whatever it is that's next, they will have no choice but to consider that DCUC was their most successful gambit. The pressure of that fact speaks volumes...I don't think its so much a matter of them admitting fault as it is creating a way forward. Creating profit. I hear you though...

CMIII 08-28-2014 07:19 PM

I'm not saying they won't do anything at all. They need to learn what Thomas Edison learned making electric light, ways not to do it.

TheBlueMarvel 08-28-2014 07:29 PM

Lol....We aren't dealing with intellects on the level of Thomas Edison...I guess I should lower my expectations accordingly. ;)

CMIII 08-29-2014 04:44 AM

these aren't even intellects on the level of the cave man who invented Fire (joke) sometimes you just get lucky

Um, who said Total Heroes is done? Only the Ultra figures on Mattycollector.com are gone. The regular line is still being sold at retail and I have not seen any announcements from Mattel that the retail line is ending any time soon.

TheBlueMarvel 08-31-2014 10:45 AM

@Trebleshot

Lol Oh, I guess I may be jumping the gun a bit. So, is the stoppage of Ultra a positive or negative take-away for Total Heroes? My opinion is that this occurrence doesn't bode well....

CMIII 09-05-2014 12:43 PM

The failure of the Ultra line will effect the Retail line. There was NOTHING Total Heroes shown at comic con aside from whats already been announced.

CMIII 10-03-2014 11:44 AM

I'm sure this wont save whats left for the DC fans but maybe it will prevent a problem in the future....
The Superpowers figure have very loose Jointing. My Wonder Woman's waist is in fact so loose that she spins at the waist like Selma Blairs head in "The Excorsist". The other figures also feature very loose Jointing. Can you please let 4 Horsemen know this? This is a Celebration and these figures are a big let down due to that.

Super Joe 10-12-2014 01:25 AM

Neitlich said Cyber Monday may include old stuff sold at discount. Can you include a few completed Collect & Connects? Many 3.75" collectors (and 6" collectors with incomplete C&C) will be highly interested. Some big figures scale even better and stand even taller next to 3.75" figures. Yet many 3.75" collectors didn't want the regular 6" figures included with the big C&Cs. Its 1 more great way to milk already made toolings, 1 more time, for 1 last hurrah!!!

Dr Kain 10-12-2014 08:09 AM

I'm going to hold of my Mr Mxy this month due to a lack of funds (plus, $42 is too much for a PVC toy) and hope he is on sale for a discount next month.

Dr Kain 10-17-2014 10:30 PM

Wow, looks like Scott has resigned.
