Was that directed toward me? Are you referring to something I wrote on another thread? About the Watcher....he is "smaller" than I'd want, but the sculpt is very cool!

Thanks for the info about the KO's of Spidey. I'll need to check the web for how you tell it's a fake. I have cleared a Red Hulk I bought 3yrs ago. My Hulk from the Hulk/Valkyrie pack was purchased.....uhhh...in the 2-pack.:p Now I'll have to check on the webhead...thanks for the heads up.

Scalpers suck

cidman911 05-18-2014 10:05 AM

Oh sorry it was IRONTUCK3000 who told me about The Watcher Select.

If what you say is indeed a fact and not opinion or speculation, then you should be able to provide some level of proof regarding Hasbro's intentions. Proof such as links to an interview with Hasbro's brand managers or their design teams where they confirm what you have said here.

I'm cynical enough to believe what you say is a possibility. But without concrete proof, I have no choice but to consider everything you say as hearsay - not fact.

That sort of proxy bidding is a less-than-noble tactic that has been used on Ebay and other auction sites for years (and at live auction even longer than that) as a way to artificially raise the auction price or stir up interest in an item.

The MacFarlane sculpt is arguably the best 6" version of Spider-Man ever made, which somewhat explains the demand for it. As for why the prices are so ridiculous, that goes back to the point of this thread. ;)

I'm a Scalper / Reseller

want to beat a scalper?? Just wait. most "hot" toys are only worth three times their retail value for 4 to 6 weeks after they hit the market.

Yes, but most Hot Toys have a limited run and sell for insane prices later on. lol.

Patience is definitely a virtue in this hobby. So is coming to terms with the idea that you just might never own a particular toy.

For example, I am perfectly comfortable with the knowledge that I will probably never own MU Vision or DOTM HA Soundwave.

What do you need voice recording,i got that anything else blood samples, diagrams, deep throat, i got him on speed dial. Note that's sarcasm with being a cynic.

Question, what happens in neighborhoods say for example, Marvel legends figures get stolen.
A target accepts the loss
B target increases prices to make up for stolen goods

What i stated was facts, i can prove conversations without recording and images, nope , till then is the ramblins of a loon to you. Your life does not change neither does mine.

What can be proven is recycling costs a lot, so does black packaging and neat graphics and corporations love awards which Hasbro had won and either they eat those costs or all the consumers to pay for those awards.

I think, i shoot and score on you...sorry in a hockey mood.

trebleshot 05-21-2014 06:44 AM

I thought I was quite clear in my previous post. However, at this point you have only proven to me that you have no intention of having a civil and intelligent discussion about your accusations.

Good day.

kylactus 05-21-2014 01:51 PM

I'm still wondering about these "packaging awards".... I'm picturing the lamest awards show ever, hosted by Drew Carey. also just curious why would black packaging cost more than individual card art? It seems to me that you would have to pay a lot more to commission a known artist, and print individual unique packages with multicolor images. and were is the recycling coming into it?
I looked on my packages, I don't see anywhere that any card ever (from the 1984 matel SW figures, to the newest MI) have ever had recycled packaging. I think these new packages are meant to appeal to young "hip" tec-ish minded consumers, and judging by the feel of the new packs I'd say they're cheaper to produce. P.S, you might want to get a blood sample from anyone offering a deep throat on the internet... just saying.

Right on.

I'm a hobbyist but I also (don't hate me, please) flip new toys sometimes, when it's convenient, or when I'm bored. I can tell you from experience: It's really, really hard to profit flipping most Marvel toys with any kind of consistency. They're really terrible to scalp if your supply comes from retail shelves, I've found. This is because most are expensive to begin with, and their price falls sharply in the secondary market.

I pretty much stay away from them.

That's why the scalpers are only looking for the Black Widows and Boba Fetts of the toy aisle.

and we have people like this...what do we call this individual?

kylactus 05-22-2014 06:44 PM

if he gets it... a financial genius. but as it stands, I'd call him high... not just price wise, but latterly smoked too much home grown, "HIGH".

Like the guy above me has implied, there's little to no reason for anyone to spend that much money on these things. Are these the only auctions on ebay for these two pieces? Even so, someone would have to be flat-ignorant to be anything but amused by those two auctions.

There are always going to be people selling things for crazy amounts what the majority are selling for a fraction of that. If they were the only auctions I could see the reason for frustration, but otherwise I wouldn't sweat it. Those guys will never make money on those kinds of auctions.

EDIT:
Beings that there are a lot of "new" people posting in this thread, I think I'll tell my funny story with repackagers. Back in 2008(right?) when the Marvel Universe line started, I found a series 1 Iron Man at Toys-R-Us. However, the package actually had a Super Hero Showdown Iron Man in it. It was the first time I'd ever seen a repackage, so I told one of the employees about it. I didn't know if they could do anything about it, hell, I was pretty new to the collecting scene. The employee's response was that "sometimes figures have variants" and that this was probably what it was.

I have a pretty uncanny memory for variants and those sorts of things, so I told him that it wasn't, but an old figure, from a line that was around years before. That Iron Man, to this day is the only SHS figure I own, so I just figured I'd let the guy know. He, and a coworker who had shown up to listen, just laughed at me and went on their way. This was my first introduction to employees not giving a shit about that kind of stuff. And really, why should they? But back then I didn't know any better.

Oddly enough, most of the places in Oregon that I've been don't have repackaged toys. I was REALLY sad when I went to Ross and they had an Attack on Cobra Island set, missing, of course, Outback. I think that the Wet-Suit was missing too, a huge selling point for me. I think there was a G1 figure in there too, but open spaces in the packaging for the most part. I guess Oregonians(at least in the Salem to Eugene areas) are pretty lucky in that regard. So, I don't really know what a lot of you guys have to go through on a regular basis.

I will say though, these days it's hard for me to get worked up about not finding items I want. Aside from how trivial I think it is, I also am able to realize that, especially in Hasbro's case, things will be scarce for a good 3-4 months, and then stores will be flooded with the figures I couldn't find.

VashTS 05-23-2014 07:38 PM

I wish those Chinese sellers would do a ko Fin Fang Foom or Ares or some Sentinels. It's impossible because the figures are so big...but I can dream......

aefranci 05-24-2014 01:19 AM

we can all dream...

yeah, i don't understand why they would sell it for that much..just it's so outlandish...i mean sure if he got the pieces for those prices by all means sell it and break even..but i really doubt he bought each piece for $140..i mean really...

i'd understand if both parts would sell for $60 since they're both super rare pieces, but even then it's pushing it..FOR BAF PIECES!

And thanks for The Watcher Marvel Select heads up. I'll wait until the month before they come out to pre-order. A few sites have them up for October re-release...Venom too.

Thanks cidman911! I had a feeling those were KOs but I wasn't sure, I asked the seller to send me pics of the inner thigh or the bottom of the shoe if it has any branding that says Toybiz or Hasbro, and they said what you see is what you get haha, but for $30 for a KO i might bite.

Yeah, you're about a year and a half too late for that. Plus, the discount wouldn't keep a physical storefront afloat. The main advantage was being able to buy single cases, versus some astronomical minimum yearly commitment to Hasbro or Mattel.
