Okay, so I am new to, well let's say everything, and what don't people like about McFarlane, and I am just asking here, not wanting anything to start really

The major issue is he preferred less articulation and more detail. Which no a days is unpopular. He also uses the 7 inch scale where as Mattel’s dc was 6 inch. I believe some think he is arrogant. Which I found to not be the case. And others have other personal unspecified reasons.

I personally love the guy. Loved movie maniacs and spawn loved his nhl figures, I think he is very forth coming. Others may have different opinions.

He sounds more stubborn versus arrogant, but that is just me on that. I see where he can come from, a statue is just a picture in 3D form, and I see where others can say that isn't good and a figure can be all the statues. I feel with that, people will like and do what they prefer. I really have seen some bash, and others praise, so I will take it as I see it

Plus 7 inch figures mean bigger figure over 6 inches, but again, to each their own

Interesting interview with McFarlane himself about the new line.

dukefett 01-08-2020 06:29 PM

I don't have a problem with him, I just think nowadays 1/12 is the standard for collectible lines. I don't just collect 1 DC line, I'm really not going to buy any of these since they'll look so out of place with other figures.

I mean if you had space for a Mcfarlane only DC display, then I'm sure they're great.

Arrogant and stubborn is how I put it......

While the rest of the toy manufacturers evolved with better sculpts and decent articulation during the last decade, McFarlane for some weird reason still insists on just focusing on the sculpt of his toys while adding minimum articulation that made no sense or had no articulation at all. And to no one's surprise, his Spawn toys stopped selling. I remember seeing his Egyptian Spawn toys and those stupid sports statues collecting dust for years.

And I don't understand why he thinks his Walking Dead building bricks are better than Lego......

While I will buy some of his latest Fortnite toys if they do appeal to me, he still has a long way to go before he becomes the "king of action figures" once again.

I found the modern Batman today at Target. Overall, it's a good figure but not perfect. I still prefer the Essentials figures but I'll definitely pick up more of the new Multiverse figures. Selectively at least. Right now, I'm still planning to get Batgirl and Green Arrow.

As for the chase variant of Detective Comics #1000 Batman figure, since the official info mentions the chest emblem, my guess is that it'll be based on Jim Lee's interior artwork from the story "Manufactured for Use". The story shows Batman creating the armor for under the suit's bat symbol. McFarlane would have to retool the chest but everything else on the figure would probably stay the same.

Wait... He melted the gun Joe Chill used into a piece of metal to put under his symbol? That seems.... like it wouldn't be very good protection...

*Edit* I said Lobo but I meant Doomsday. Lobo is the only one that would probably end up being out of scale.

Eh.

I’d be cautious. Those are hundred dollar figures.

Todd gave an interview where he was talking how as a privately owned company, he’ll consider break even figures and he’s been consulting with the box manufacturers to see how big he can make figures and fit into the box. He said he has about 10 DC characters in mind and gave Solomon Grundy as an example.

I imagine Bane and Doomsday and Lobo and a Darkseid are on his list. These are characters he wants to do as big as the box allows at the $20 price point.

Those Storm figures are $100. Maybe they’re better than Todd’s $20 figures. But are they $80 better?

DarkEyes 01-09-2020 03:37 AM

No doubt McFarlane DC is the hit of the year 2020, since the very first day.

When something so big like this happens, haters are going to hate, with a variety of comments since "I don't like McFarlane figures, he made me something personally", "Todd is arrogant" (WTH?) to more objective (and realistic? ) comments to the figure itself, and whatever is in between.

There are A LOT OF figures with different scales, guys there is A LOT OF life outside the 6 inches in the world. There is no standard at all with 6 inches, there's nothing write in a rock. Even the 6 in world has turned into something smaller in order to conserve scale (or try to do) between characters.

In my particular case, I'm a fan of the Animated lines, and currently the only option was DC Collectibles. DC Collectibles figures are usually weak in design, with many quality issues, and they are small plus the big idea was made that Justice League Animated line will be an exclusive! And never had a chance to got them, good to me that I actually don't like them. Now DC Collectibles announces JLA will not be exclusive (they certainly knew what McFarlane was making) but even right now there is no pre-order on Amazon.

I was expecting bigger figures with better sculp and them MFDC happened! Great news!

Good news is that thanks to Todd, the variety of options increases, fans are gonna enjoy the figures and haters are gonna hate them, of course that is what haters do.

Enjoy! hate! do whatever you like.

For future reference, keep in mind that just because we have valid reasons to dislike some of McFarlane's decisions when it comes to toys doesn't mean we hate him on a more personal level.

There's a thin line between valid criticism and hate, something that people tend to interchange.

DarkEyes 01-09-2020 08:18 AM

"We" and "them" OMG!

These are some favorite "valid reasons":

"I'm passing on them due to my personal disgust of the owner of the company which is making them"

"He is arrogant"

"Figuarts, Figma and Mezo are better" WTH? Not even in the same league! Please someone needs to say that the sculp is not the same that a Hot Toys and it has to be better.

deecee4 01-09-2020 09:43 AM

Gundam Superman looks pretty rad!

Kindly don't use my quote as a "funny reason" for not buying the toys. I've already said several times that several of the figures look very good, and I fully endorse those that like these to get them, it's just that I won't. I've had a personal hatred of McFarlane for over 20 years. That's totally different and again, personal, compared to someone saying "I don't like them because in the 90's their toys didn't have ankle joints."

But I guess this is the internet, so anything is mockable. Oh well. carry on.

Holy shit, lol!

And let's not forget Diamond Select's iZombie figure! Leslie Knope is everywhere!

I have no beef with McFarlane the man. In fact, we probably wouldn't be here on this site talking about buying toys as grown-ass men if he hadn't started his company way back in the day (he also was very influential as a comic book artist as well). So, as adult toy collectors I think we all do owe him at least some gratitude, despite however he may or may not conduct himself as a person (I don't know anything about that, personally).

That said, I do agree with those who said that he has been doing a bad job of evolving his toy lines and keeping up with the expectations of modern day collectors, and as a result he's gone from an innovator to ineffectually playing catch-up. But the Fortnite figures are a step in the right direction, even if I personally find the DC figures to be "eh" at best.

I think that's rather extreme hyperbole and taking a whole hell of a lot for granted, but to each his own. If you like 'em, good on you. But however people may or may not feel about McFarlane's DC line, I doubt it'll end up being the "hit of 2020." But that doesn't mean it won't possibly be very successful.

Looks like we’ve got a die-hard McFarlane fan here. I’d harp more but good luck on your stubborn attitude.

Kids nowadays, valid criticisms are now coined as hate to them. No wonder this generation’s skins are as thick as an onion skin.

Wonderful Toys 01-09-2020 05:45 PM

The only things I don't care for with these figures is the animated ones' shoulder span are just a hair too much, and BTAS Batman obviously being TNBA Batman with BTAS paint scheme.

Dr Kain 01-09-2020 10:26 PM

So I guess Harley is the same size as Batman. That blows.

Tony_Bacala 01-10-2020 12:18 AM

So, I have everything here. All 12 figs and the Bat Raptor.

I've run them through basic shots and comparisons, on the white BG. Started editing, but am tired AF. Gonna pause and finish up tomorrow, then start the fancy shots.

Here are some previews of the basic shots I'm working on. Very similar to official pics, but hopefully when all done some different angles and polish.

Last one is just a head swap with the #1000 Superman fig. Doesn't come with that head.

If you guys want any specific shots, basic-ish on white BG style - LMK.

I have a good selection of comparison with previous DC figs and other lines done already.

And if you have questions in general, also let me know. I can clarify here and in eventual review.

lordbest 01-10-2020 04:16 AM

Those shots make the figures look a lot better, to me at least. To me this lines success is going to depend on how soon we start seeing more obscure characters, or at least characters that have been neglected by DCC and Mattel.
I'm confused about the BAF Batmobile. It's not in scale with the figures so what is the point of it?
