Without the bicep joint, poses for the arms will be pretty limited. An upper torso joint would be great even though the torso has that weird pre-posed sculpt. Dunno why they sculpted it this way. Reminds me of the first Wolverine Marvel Legends figure that has lots of articulation but always looks weird because of the pre-posed nature of the torso.

A swivel at the calf and forearm wouldn't be needed. The hands will already be able to rotate and pivot at the wrist. Same goes for the ankles/feet; they'll be able to turn side-to-side as well as pivot up and down. The thighs already seem to be able to be able to rotate since they both plug into the hip joints, so an additional swivel would be redundant.

Bicep swivel has become my most wanted articulation joint. It gives almost any figure so much more range in the arms.

The reason I suggested the upper thigh cuts - if these are functioning like the MK11 figures - there is a peg/swivel at the hip connection point like on this model, but, they don't really fully swivel. Sculpt, the crotch piece, interfere. If you want to have him crouching off a building ledge (or shelf), the legs need to go fully outward. The upper thigh, and upper shin swivels allow you to bring it all back in and be more normal.

The upper shin - this allows for posing "ease" so to speak. If you get the foot rocker planted flat, and then move the leg, it's not planted flat anymore. But if you have the shin swivel, you can spin it until the foot is flat again without adjusting the rest of the pose.

The upper thigh cut can also help with keeping foot planted without a full re-pose.

Bicep - if that's there, I could be ok without the forearm cut. Forearm would then be gravy.

Ab - I think we all agree but he specifically said he isn't doing it in last day or two, so that ain't happening. Stinker.

I think about this shit more deeply due to the photography stuff. BUT, these things make it better for casual fans too because they don't have to fiddle with shit like a scientist to get him standing in a desired pose. It just works without thought.

Bottom line, I want to get a specific pose, and then fine tune each point. If I change something, I don't want it to require me adjusting all 10 other points. Fudging reality in human movement to get a pose quicker is a trade off I am ok with.

Agreed. For whatever reason, doing it on actual Kickstarter triggers purchases that I don't think they would get if it was just "hit pre-order numbers" via retailers.

So, if Kickstarter brings in the masses, then so be it, all the biggies should do it.

I'd love to see NECA do it with their less popular lines or some of the bigger things they wont do due to retailers not wanting to carry them. The main example would be Ghidorah. Large things like Alien Praetorians, Alien APC, dioramas etc could be done like this. Alternatively, used as a way to give us characters from less popular lines such as Bladerunner (Joi or Sapper Morton) or Dark Fate (Rev-9, battle damaged Carl). Any time they're questioning the appeal of a character or are worried it's a good way to guage public interest and/or justify the expense.

deecee4 04-18-2020 04:27 AM

Id also love to see Neca do a Kickstarter. I remember Randy mentioning a dream property would them doing Nintendo properties like NES pro wrestling and Mike Tyson's Punch out...I don't know if that would even be possible as a KS but his dream is my dream lol and I'd love to see it happen.
Even with McFarlane, he mentioned a possible future KS being their fantasy stuff that got abruptly cancelled back in the day like Dragons/Zodiac/Blade Hunters...that's something I'd be interested in seeing too.

ShabbyBlue 04-18-2020 01:48 PM

A kickstarter for the Predator 2 Mike Harrigan might be the only way we could get him from NECA unless they already planned to offer him as a 20th anniversary exclusive this year. But given Randy's irrational and stubborn refusal in the past to make that figure despite fan demand, it wouldn't surprise me if the film's 20th anniversary comes and goes this year without finally giving us Harrigan, Kickstarter or not.

Also it's a shame that securing expensive likeness rights must precede offering a figure for sale, because I bet if Mafex or Mezco ran a kickstarter to guage demand in a 6" Jack Nicholson Joker, the required goal would probably be achieved and surpassed to justify whatever ridiculous price Nicholson is asking for these days on top of the other production costs and profit margin a company would need to finally make this figure.

Anyway, back to Spawn... it passed 1.6 mil without any new stretch bonus, despite getting bonuses after crossing 1.4mil and 1.5mil, so I wonder if 2mil will be the next line to cross to get anything else.

UPDATE 7 (April 19th):

A new update has been posted. When the campaign has exceeded $1.7 Million (at 1.6+ now), 2 new sculpted items will be automatically added to Modern Spawn depending on the way you purchase him. All copies of Modern Spawn will come with the spiked boot, regardless of whether the purchase was single or in the 3 pack. As an extra bonus for the 3-pack purchasers - Modern Spawn will also come with the arm gauntlet. They have also confirmed details on purchasing more than one is coming in the next update.

ShabbyBlue 04-19-2020 09:41 PM

Is the oversized boot something that can be attached and removed from the original version of leg or is it now part a resculpted lower leg? I'm hoping its removable so we can display Modern Spawn both ways. I don't think he was clear in the video about that.

In the comments people asked if it will be removable which Todd chimed in and stated they haven't figured out if they'll do removable parts but he's leading more into having the parts be sculpted on the figure. Also update it already exceeded the amount of 1.7 million for this upgrade. Hopefully news on the next update will be about more hands since I still want some fist hands for the figure.

UPDATE 8 (April 21st):
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects.../posts/2818155

A new update has been posted. No new items this round, but 3d models of the weapons were shown including the Launcher, Necro Sword, and Wooden Spiked Hook.

UPDATE 8 (April 22nd): (GOOD ONE)
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects.../posts/2818155

A new update has been posted. Prototypes from the factory are in hand. They show the figure’s articulation, heads and weapons. The awesome thing here – two articulation points fans have been asking for (including me) have been addressed. The ab crunch – no cut – but they are testing the torso being soft with a bend joint underneath. IMO that would be perfection. The second is bicep cut – not present, but he said it will be on the next test shot. So ab crunch and bicep cuts will most likely be present in final, which is great. There are also hands which go with the specific weapons in the video. Hit the link to check it out!

That lower neck joint looks awful.

Looks like it was simply cut from the original sculpt and a ball joint added underneath it. When it's moved it gets all wonky and gappy. I wonder if they could make the neck more of a simple cylinder shape (i.e. the actual neck and not neck+upper-chest) that connects down in the torso. If they go with the flexible material for the torso they could then have the hole in the chest snug up to the neck nicely. That way the sculpt would not be compromised and you'd still have the articulation.

Krunomo 04-22-2020 08:35 PM

oooo no the Spawn thread is back at the top again!!!!!

The articulation isn't perfect but it's not the worst and i'll be more than happy to get this guy. Todd appears to be listening and he is engaging with his supporters. Hoping there are more "stretch" goals. Really wanting some necroplasm effects.

I Can Not Wait To Get My Hands On The Classic Spawn!

warmachine6 04-23-2020 01:52 AM

in regards to the articulation "This is ** NOT A FINAL PRODUCT ** We will be adding a bit more articulation and making adjustments along the way to make it even better." - Todd mcfarlane. Im sure they might get rid of some artiuclation and add to make it look better hopefully todd fixes the neck issue, also hoping they look at MK11 spawn for artiulation comparison, that cape looks very heavy

Comedian 04-23-2020 04:52 AM

Well, that is looking cool. I love the dc style ratchet joints. I’m loving the soft torso. I hope that works out. My big issue at this point, I want more characters now. I wish we could unlock new figures.

EvilMonkeyPope 04-23-2020 05:52 AM

So the modern Spawn will now actually have the correct costume? They really ought to have had that shown from the start.

Gmonkey2k 04-23-2020 06:07 AM

Still, the only thing that's stopping me from 'pre-ordering' Modern Spawn is the lack of masked head. Don't get me wrong, I love the shoelace head as what he looks like under the mask but...To not include the mask at all... :/

Also, I saw this while browsing the comments and I have to say, made me double-take for a second... https://imgur.com/a/B1Rkhb0

EDIT: I guess I can't post photos, but someone said:
"...I'm not sure I'm happy with how it's looking with the articulation in place. I was hoping for it to be more of a sculpted statue like piece"

Face palm with that comment. Well some people did like the more artistic statue figures. I think most of us are ready for Todd to take this leap though. Lol.

Can someone here tell me if these Figures are ONLY available through
the Kickstarter Website?

Or will they be available for Wordwide / Retail Stores also?
Just like his other Lines like Mortal Kombat, Fortnite and so on.

I do not have a credit Card, i can not support anything on Kickstarter.

But i would like to purchase all Figures when they hit Stores.

Will they be available to everyone after Production?

Check your local comicbook/nerd store. Many are ordering a few to sell at a slight or severe markup. Or ask a friend or family member to order on your behalf. Another option is get a prepay visa gift card and use that to pay for the figure on kickstarter. Plenty of options for you.

Yup. Although the easiest one would be if McFarlane added a PayPal-option to his Kickstarter - like many others did before him.

I don’t feel like jumping through any hoops for this project but if PayPal was an option I would support it.

From what I understand - Kickstarter removed the option to pay with Paypal (or Paypal stopped allowing it to be used on Kickstarter). Nothing McFarlane or anyone else with current projects can do now.

Hey now! Stop taking away people's reasons to irrationally hate on Todd!

Aren't there loopholes around that though? The figure is fully funded; just set up a "store" to "pre-order" the figure that allows PayPal as an option. Beasts of the Mesozoic did something like that IIRC.
