Yeah, I'd agree the card stock is a bit light, as well as the blister. It's also raining here in mid-TN today, so mine had the added bonus of being a little damp since it was just shipped in a flimsy plastic bag. Oh well. Here he is with the rest of the team, in all his teal goodness.

And a side-by-side comparison...

Cyclopswc 07-29-2022 08:56 AM

I ordered 3 Walmart Lady Jaye, 2 came in an envelope and 1 in a box, all crushed to hell, even the one that's in a box by itself! I only needed one, I figured if I ordered 3, they'd put them in a big box and I'd have a higher chance of 1 in a good package, then I'd just return the other 2, but Noooooooooo......

Look at the bloody prices of them though. I just said to him eh mate you could got me a couple of those while you were there. lol. £2.99 for Flint? I paid more than that for sausage and chips the other night. lol

My mate just told me he's going back to that store and will grab me the cheaper than chips Flint and Jaye and give them to me when I next see him. So aye, looks like I'll have me a couple of these Joes too.

Will those be your first Classified figures? If so, welcome to the slippery slope.

I do not recall having ever purchased something on any of my admittedly few visits as their pricing on new items is generally $5-15 over MSRP.

Some are better than others. The Grandview location is by far the most organized, the downside to that is it has the least to offer in terms of figures and statues. It has a great selection of movies and CDs because that is where I got my copies of Gone Baby Gone, Memento, and Saint Asonia's debut album. I've been shopping at those stores roughly my entire life the Metcalf location is the one I've been to the most and I worked there when I was in high school so I know, so I may have a soft spot for the chain. I will say Vintage Stock is more organized than Retro Zone located in the Oak Park Mall if you've ever been there.

As for the pricing, I hear you they can be a bit overpriced. Storm Shadow and the Cobra Officer were 27.99 as opposed to 19.99. It's a bit of a rip, but since I currently work at a restaurant I tend to overlook it because I use my tip money to pay for my collecting hobbies. If you've ever heard of PKTC Collectibles near the trolly trail, they're a similar business to VS and I had a conversation with Dione Woods the co-owner of the business about Vintage Stock and he commented on how greedy the business can be. It is what it is.

Aye, but nah no slope for me. I'm not a massive Joe fan these days but have some fondness for the old toys and marvel comic and a select few characters including Flint and Jaye there so quite happy to get them for so little money. As I stated before, my main draw to the 80s Joes was all the cool vehicles and such and that's not really the same here at 6 inch and even if they did make even the large vehicles to now 6 inch figure scale, no way I have the money or space for such things. But aye, I'll be happy with having some Joe representing on my shelf in a scale that matches some of my other figures. Though a lil short to crossover with the Masterverse collection and my kid and I have been building but aye we can just pretend people are naturally bigger on Eternia. lol

Had no idea my mate sold his Duke figure and it turns out he's not hugely thrilled with Storm Shadow so maybe I can nab that off him. lol

I have not been to either of the other stores you mentioned but I will have to visit. Glad to know there is another collector from KC in the thread.

Oh wow... this is exactly the same as my collection except I have Barbecue instead of Gung-ho. Seeing this pic makes me want more Joes that come with animals though.

How did you come by the twins? All the usual outlets still show an ETA of next May.

Just a quick and dirty photo while I work through some ideas. I stumbled across a video from a guy named Louis Bernal who came up with a recipe for a Classified General Hawk. I took the idea and added a helmet from Grid Iron for a touch of the old school General Hawk.

Louis's build does a lower leg swap with the original Duke as the gold from the shins ties in with the rest of the gold accents. That being said, as I prefer the more scifi styling from the early days of Classified, I am highly considering leaving the legs in place.

Thoughts?

Got them from Canada

I wonder if people had to choose between extra accessories or figure stands like the ones the Walmart Classified Retro Joes come with... which they would choose? I would probably choose the stands.

Depends on what one would consider extra. AC SE, for example, definitely had extra, that is to say, more gear than he could hold. Most of these figures don't, though- they come with exactly what would make what I consider to be a necessary Joe loadout. For most of these, I would not at all like to see less gear, but in the instances where they go the ME era way of almost giving me too much gear, stands all day.

EternianJerkian 08-01-2022 04:21 AM

Eh, I think the stands look a lil too complex and distracting. I prefer a simple flat plate. And besides, you can use various third-party stands or have someone 3D print custom ones. Accessories/gear are a bit trickier.

I do agree with that to some degree. The stands included with the retro Classifieds aren't bad, but the ones included during ME with the raised logos and names printed on the front were pretty awful in that regard. I felt they were far too wide as well. Ideally the stands would be more or less just an upscaled version of the classic o-ring stand, but with an extra peg.

Aye. What is 'during ME'? Sorry I don't know what the 'ME' stands for. lol. But yeah the stands I saw were much like the 25th annivesary ones (but bigger, obviously) and I just didn't like them. I dunno. More elaborate stands with the character's name on and all that is fine for those who display them like they're memorial statues but the times I use stands is mostly just for figure stability and I like them to be as 'invisible' as they can be. So aye, I tend to go for clear ones like these NECA ones my mate gave me though he tells me they don't fit the Classified Joes cos the holes on the figure's feet are too big for them so I won't be using them there but they do fit Masterverse pretty snugly so I've been using them for balancing some one legged poses and such. lol

Kirathis 08-01-2022 12:21 PM

"Remember that awesome thing you pre-ordered from us? (See below as a helpful reminder.)"

I find that an amusing statement for a Hasbro pre-order as history has shown that I do not remember everything I have pre-ordered based on the timeframe involved. Apparently my retro Baroness will be shipping soon.

Haha, sorry man, I'm way more active on Hisstank, and apparently just kinda take it as a matter of course that everyone I encounter on a toy forum is a lifelong Joe guy and knows all of the lingo (ME, PoC, RET, ARAH, and so on). "ME" stands for modern era, which technically started with the 25th anniversary line and went through the 50th anniversary line (though many of us will discount 25th because the sculpts and articulation are pretty rudimentary compared to the beautiful stuff that started coming out from Pursuit of Cobra onwards). So yeah, those are exactly the stands I mean. I only briefly collected modern 1/18 Joes, and the stands always went into a bag and sat in the closet.

My big takeaway from those emails are that between the fact that it's been so long in between preorder and fulfillment and the fact that their order history is a chore to sort through, Hasbro knows I'd have know idea what the F they're talking about if they don't remind me.

Ah cheers. Modern era. Ok cool. Aye, I used to have Joes when I was a kid in the 80s and I've said before how the vehicles really drew me to it. Used to love filling those up with all the figures and such. And aye I had some 25th Anniversary ones back around whenever that was. 2007, 2008? And aye just been noticing Joes again since Classified happened. Still not sure on the new scale myself (because it limits what vehicles can be made and such) but I'm glad to see Joes being successful again because it seemed kinda dead a few years back.
