2 of my favorites are stepbrothers juggernaut and professor X. Cain has a great looking helmet that has like a metallic wash. Chuck comes with a sick hover chair that sports a wash and actually looks pretty good.

kylactus 08-30-2015 06:25 PM

WW hulk, great sculpt, made better with washes and great paint. and a lot of detailed accessories.

[I]Fred Meyer (might be Kroger or something else in your area) used to be THE place to get Marvel Universe figures. They would have a different wave - not even a new wave, they were bringing back some classics sometimes - every other week. You had to get in there and get what you wanted or else you were left out in the cold. I lost out on a solid Vision, because the first time I saw the figures there I picked up two others and figured I'd be back the next week after getting paid to get him. Nope. Giggity giggity gone. I had no idea he was rare - or he might not even have been at the time - but I digress. Anyway, as the later waves came out, they stopped stocking the classics every other week, just stocked two cases of the wave before the newest (they stopped having the current line, like at any point - they were always one behind every other store toward the end). The chase and well-liked figures flew off the shelves instantly, and the shelfwarmers just sat and sat and sat - two whole cases at a time of them, because nobody wanted them - until eventually they would disappear (I never did see them go on clearance).

Fast forward to the Marvel Infinite line. Fred Meyer actually got them before anybody else that I saw! And Wasp - the most wanted of the line at the time -was MIA. I had pre-ordered a set from Big Bad Toy Store so I only picked up the Hulk that I wouldn't be getting in the set - and what do you know, they sold out and refreshed two more times after that. By that point, Wasp was no longer as hard to come by and the second wave was out... so they briefly clearanced them for like a buck and a half less - and I am wholly convinced that I am the only one that picked up anything out of that deal - a second Wasp and Grim Reaper for customs. Every single Hyperion, Captain America, Hulk, Wasp, Grim Reaper, and Iron Man is still there, to this day, except for those two I took, literally collecting dust, about a year later. And now they're 4 bucks more than the Ultimate figures were. Meanwhile, every other store in the area has progressed to at least 2-3 waves since (I've decided to go without the hassle and just pre-order them but I still keep tabs). Even the two K-Marts I'd been to in the span of a week last month

Yeah distro is awful in our area. I'm on the east coast right now and it's refreshing to see some other figures other than Hyperion and I'm a little worried he will kill the upcoming 2 packs. I think in summer 2012 I drove around some Fred Meyers buy 1 get 1 half off and for like $7.50 each I got Jim lee cyclops, Ultron, single carded doom, x-23, Union jack, falcon and maybe some others and was stoked. I don't even bother checking there on a regular basis anymore, and when I do I see someone has switched out the legends figures. It's a shame.

Deathlok: besides being a badass cyborg killing machine with an initially cool design, the 4" toy looks pretty nice. The US flag on his chest came out incredibly fine considering how small it is and then they just used all the right red and silver to make Deathlok one of the coolest looking toys in the line.

Apocalypse: Hasbro chose the perfect metallic blue and used the right amount of washing to give the parts that need it an aged look but then the delivery on his head with his lips and red eyes came out great. Apocalypse is actually one of the first figures from the line that I would consider to have a higher level of detailed paint apps.

Vision (solid): not really any washing or shading here, but Hasbro made this figure's colors pop in a very nice way. It also features a metallic gloss which helps him pop even more in any collection, the only downside is that you're gonna be hard pressed to find one for a "good price."

Daredevil (MI 2015 classic red look): this figure has one of the coolest shading effects in the series and is just overall very well painted with a darker almost blood red on most of his suit and then a nice lighter red for his symbol and eyes which makes them stand out nicely.

Hulk (2012) and Abomination: both of our jade giants have a really nice amount of shading and washing that helps them to look tough and mean. Abomination's eyes are a pretty nice gold and both figures usually have well done teeth paint apps.

Rhino: much like the Abomination he is awesomely sculpted and then has a very classy shading wash effect that really gives it that thick leathery pachyderm skin look.

Basically there are very few figures in this line with less than good paint apps unless you look at some of the wave 1 stuff but even then it's still fairly nice. I'd actually say that from the looks of it everything will be downhill from here with all of the new stuff seeming to opt for as little paint apps as possible, no more shading or washing effects just the base colors as needed to detail the character.

K Dubious 08-30-2015 07:24 PM

Silver Samurai still holds the title in my eyes. He benefits from the excellent washes from that "ERA". His Silver looks so good and I'm fairly sure his entire mold (Which is fantastic) is unique to him. Plus the Red Rising Sun Symbol is super clean.

Runners up...Archangel his paint app and wings are too good, WW Hulk and Skaar for their molds and accessories, BRB for his hinged Jaw, I still find that awesome.

Universe 08-30-2015 07:34 PM

Probably not an original idea, but after playing with my shield room, I needed a classic Fury without the old buck, so I used the AA nick fury jr body and I think it looks really nice. Used a a Venom Snake cigar and a 50th anniversary Duke jet pack:

Yeah those were the days. I'm kicking myself for not picking up Doom and Ultron when I had a chance.

While not at all a Paul Rudd head I think an extra Reed Richards head and some black paint works well enough.

Psycho Pirate 08-30-2015 07:45 PM

I still think Flint's head fills in the best for Rudd!

It just happened to be crossing my desk - I didn't go hunt it down. And I hardly ever see ants on my desk, so it must have been fate. The hard part was convincing him to play dead long enough for the picture.

Same goes for TF generation figures too, FM doesn't seem to care about the toylines they stock any more, more like the crappy ones it seems like.

Yes, it is a great Ward head. Great on a SHIELD body or Hydra body. But Trip is not impressed.

Looks like ROC Ripcord. That's who I used for Tripp anyway, just darkened the skin to match the Avenger Movie Fury body.

I finally found a spider head that fits best with my personal favorite spidey-body (miles morales buck Spiderman colors) I put the Chameleon's spidey head on the body and put the head on the dark variant Spiderman bosy from early MU:

This head is from Pilkster, but I didn't have a Bartoc body to go with it so I used a GIJoe Cobra Shocktrooper as the body and a IM2 nick coat:

Bought some GiJoes and I used the Dusty from the new 3 pack as fodder, had an extra cap head from the 5poa AoU and Firefly is just one of my favorite villians and bought it for these colors because it looked like the old trading card from the 90s:

Lol I did dusty/cap also. I'm hoping to find the triangle shield in my fodder boxes because I think itlll make this thing pop

Kamatayan 08-31-2015 07:12 PM

Expect some Anti-Venom pics sooner or later. I've been staring at him for a few minutes and decided to take it out of it's display case to play with it so I figured I should start taking more pictures. As you guys may know my collection is very limited but since there aren't that many Anti-Venom pics on the web I'd figure I'd take some requests for poses of his fighting other figures and what-not. My collection pics are a few pages back and I'll re-upload them on a collection thread that I'll make later.
