Saying MCU is grounded is ridiculous. It's a show about people with super powers. When they start changing shit because a Purple guy is not believable but a blind guy who is better at everything than anyone and a chick who can pick up a 250 pound dude with one hand is believable is when I stop watching.

There's also the possibility that, I dunno maybe, the actor didn't feel like spending 6 hours a day being spray painted purple? Or maybe it wasn't in budget. Can't say that his being purple would have really enhanced the creep factor of the character anyway, if anything I think it might have taken away from the whole evil abusive rapist vibe. Nothing says @$$hole better than being bright purple? Hmmmmm.... no

I get what you're saying about it though, but what I am saying is something that I call "The Singer Effect." Some things just look better in the comics and don't quite translate as well to real life as we'd like. You can say what you want about the way the black leather X-Men look (and no...I wasn't a fan of it either,) but if they would have came running out in skin tight yellow spandex, the whole thing would have looked more like a cosplayer flash mob and feel somewhat off, especially when you stop to realize that they are going to battle in nothing more than a skin tight layer of nylon that will tear the first time they skin their knee on the ground. Veronica put it best...having a literal "Purple Man" while being faithful to the comics, would have also compromised one of the things that made his character even more dangerous in the show. People would have seen a purple skinned guy coming at them, and would have known to run away, or plug their ears as quick as they can. Removing that element gave him an ability to blend in, allowing him to literally come at you from anywhere. And if we look at the "Singer Effect", maybe the director actually had David Tenant in purple make-up at some point during a test shot and said..."man...that looks like ****..." |
That's like saying the Hulk would look better if he stayed White. I guess I just prefer things to be the way they where originally done.

Honestly, David Tennant is the thing that saves JJ because that show spends way too much time with sex scenes and pointless subplots. Hell, if you removed every sex scene, the show would lose 3 episodes. It also doesn't help that Jessica is not that likable of a person. The way I look at it, SPOILER He will most likely come back in the future and they will probably have his skin turn purple by whatever manner it was that resurrected him. |
Tried a Jean Grey head-swap w/ my kit-bashed Widow.

Am I the only one who really likes the headsculpt on the Phoenix figure? It really reminds me of an adult Jean Grey from X-Men Evolution. |

Frankly, the character is so good you forget about the not being purple very quickly. At least IMHO. I thought Jessica Jones had problems, but Purple Man wasn't one of them. Anyway, Yay! Enchantress as a single figure! *Happy Dance* Patience and the rumor paid off. I even like that shade of green as well. |
Not sure weather to get the dr strange wave all together or get some of them individually ...

I really have no incentive to get half of the wave since I already have most of it from previous releases. SDCC Dormammu, Enchantress and Brother Voodoo, then the new Dr. Strange is literally just the one from the Hulkbuster wave with a new cloak (pretty lazy on Hasbro's part tbh, we REALLY could have used an updated figure for his classic look). I like that this wave includes figures for popular characters that were previously sold in exclusive sets, but there's not much there for me personally. I'll probably push hard to get Nico and Danny. I'm sure the movie figures will be abundant enough for me to wait on them. I'll probably get the rest way later down the road just for completionist's sake. |
I pre-ordered the Dr Strange wave from Premium Collectables, with my loyalty point discount I only paid $115AUD/88USD for it vs $280AUD if (and that is a big if) it comes to stores here). I'll probably sell the MCU figures.

This is my kitbashed Jubilee spider girl body with some random coat , never really started to customize her as , my bane in customizing is the color yellow. Thats why I'm just putting Jubilee 's head on to Kitty and maybe swap the legs. http://i1081.photobucket.com/albums/...5C81B050C4.jpg http://i1081.photobucket.com/albums/...6E64C5AF98.jpg |

grounding (which occurs on many different levels) = lessening the original amount of the fantasy aspect while lending itself to more "real world" realism. In my opinion, this started with the Ultimate Universe(on a larger level) and was one of the reasons why I 'originally' liked it so much. When you start adding touches of "real worldism" to the writing...it makes it more relate-able..like okay..THAT thing that just happened is more along the lines of what would happen in REAL LIFE, even though, yes..we are referring to a world full of super-powered people in tights. Real world issues, real world themes, real world repercussions. I also believe the current Marvel Cinematic Universe is based more off of the "way" the Ultimate Universe worked, it IS in a sense more grounded than stories were in comics PRIOR to the Ultimate Universe, the kind of writing that you really only used to get in the Marvel MAX books. The Neflix movies, though in the same MCU are even more grounded and contain much less "fantasy" aspects...almost to the point where...it's a guy/girl with powers that lives in OUR ACTUAL world. I believe even more people can relate to that even though it may isolate purist of the comic genre. I happen to LOVE what they have done with the Netflix series so far and hope it continues to grow. No matter what medium you love that actual comics have given birth to, we (READS: YOU NERDS) at this point have so much to choose from...its a great time to be a fan. Quote:
************************************************** ****************************************** SIDE NOTE: This is my official disclaimer that no matter how bad i talk about an action figure before its release, I may still buy it and love it. .. I STILL think pics of the BAF Juggernaut are off, and his proportions look weird, and that the MS one has a better sculpt, BUT. i am REALLY diggin' this BAF one in person....to me he's a damn near perfect fit for the Marvel Universe line. |
*Double Post*
because i break rules... I was looking at this pic again and dammit...it's just impressive. So in lieu of the (brief?) absence of the King of the Ark.... I proudly re-up his "thrown together on a whim cause i got it like that" sweet ass X-Collection http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...psofhbubka.jpg impressive......most impressive..... |

Nico is the only figure I would probably buy, but that depends on whether or not I actually come across her in stores. Too bad they didn't go for the look of her I prefer though. Quote:
It doesn't really matter though, as she is clearly going to be in three of those series. |

I thought Season 1 of JJ was WAY better than Season 1 of DD. Season 2 of DD was probably my favorite though.
Here is my slightly modded Jubilee. I made her belt from an old X piece from vort, i ordered years ago and a yellow rubber band. Because you know we ain't trying to paint no yelllow! http://i.imgur.com/KIACtfL.jpg |
@Dr Kain thanks I really want to see that Defenders series
|
I'm kinda pissed at myself for buying the SDCC set now that Hasbro has revealed a single carded Enchantress. Overall, I'm happy with the set, but my main reason for buying it was her. Oh well.
