I think toy collecting is either a few of these things or all, whatever

1) Cool toy, figure of a cool character that would be cool to own
2) Gift for friend, child or relative
3) Since some toys are "rare", people like bragging when they purchase it because they treat toys like rare treasures. They only buy them because they know other people will be jealous/and can scalp them for measly profit. Seriously $20 rare hasbro toy goes for $35-$40 on ebay, then you have to pay ebay fees so you only profit really like $12 lol sad
4) Hoarding, really how many toys do you need?
5) Bored, hobby is fun

Buyer beware. There's scumbags repacking bootleg Deadpools onto the X-Force Deadpool packages.

That goes way beyond a buyer beware. That right there is straight up illegal. That guy is asking to be raided and thrown in jail.

kylactus 06-08-2014 07:55 AM

are we positive that those are re-packs? they were touted as "K-Mart exclusives right?

Is this at a convention? I'd report the seller.

Relena Warcraft 06-08-2014 03:08 PM

I'm getting sick of Hasbro's "hurdur female characters don't sell" mentality resulting in all of the women getting stuck being one per case and getting picked up by all the scalpers. It's such bull.

Nymesys Prime 06-09-2014 06:59 AM

New rant: Just got AoE Galvatron....while I like the fact that the cab "flattens" for the transformation it looks like a stiff board mounted to his back now. The figure might has well been one of those Protoforms with a cab on its back. Makes posing him damn near impossible and looks plain tacky. at first I thought it was a mis-transformation but quickly found out that's how they made the damn thing. I am so beyond disappointed in Hasbro for creating this piece of lactose intolerable excrement and calling it a Transformer. Not to mention a truck! damn they coulda saved the Black Cab-over truck for....lets say Nemesis Prime not freaking Galvatron. Then there's no arm cannon! Its my opinion that hell the DOTM figures were better than this. Hasbro needs to get toy designers back in the mix not marketing students who couldn't give two chits about the TF brand. Hound looks good so far will try him out this evening to see how the execution goes.
The 6 in GOTG set isn't bad at all..surprisingly I like all these figures (even the bazillionth Iron Man)..just wonder why theses were 19.99 and the Xmen are 14.99? given that the next wave is supposed to sport a bigger packaging I am preparing for the inevitable price hike but in such a small time frame and hearing all this cost of materials and plastic BS... how could the next wave of figures be cheaper than the current wave? TRU is known for the random price increase(MP Grimlock or total heroes or DC Multiverse) but the flip flopping of pricing tells me that in their infinite wisdoms to make the Xmen a seller they dropped the price. but its a TRU exclusive so surely TRU will bump it back to 19.99 or 22.99 which is what the ASM2 and CAWS is selling for currently. Currently most Action figures of any better than good quality are costing $24.99 and up...so riddle me this..at what point will the cost be so great that entire lines fail because no one can afford them?

I saw all three of these lovelies on the same peg at Walmart the other day. After having a good chuckle to myself, I alerted some very friendly employees who were very happy that I spotted them, and after briefly speaking with someone from their loss prevention department, said they would use the figures for training to alert others in the store to this type of return scam...

To some of you guys who are pissed off and angry about people doing this stuff, I hear ya, it makes me angry as well. It makes us hard working and honest collectors look like desperate, seedy individuals who would literally steal candy from children. Calling these employees names and for these employees to be fired however is a bit ridiculous and extreme. Many of the employees at retailers like Walmart and Target are older, or are high school or college level students starting their employment careers. Would you hold your parents or grandparents, or your significant others who take little to no interest in your hobbies to those same standards? Would you nod your head and say "Well, you deserved it," if they were fired from their jobs for such a small oversight? Very doubtful...You would more than likely be probably pissed off at the company for being so harsh with their penalties.

Remember, the people who do this are the worst type of scum, because they are purposely breaking the law (which they are) and attempting to get away with it. This is more than someone buying a toy that's defective or broken and it happening to make it's way back to the shelf due to employee negligence. This is someone who is sitting at home, drawing up a plan to purposefully and deceitfully trick someone into handing cash to them, a toy ponzi scheme if you will, because they know that 9 times out of ten, the employee doesn't know any better. The two employees that I showed these two were friendly and cordial people, who were a little shocked and embarrassed by the mishap. They also didn't know what an Agent of Hydra looked like, but I hardly think that's grounds for them to lose their job.

I will admit this are really well done. but yes I would just as I know they would hold me responsible for my neglegece. make a mistake like that at any job and reprimands will happen. I was in quality control for a big bakery so if I can see that a bun has the wrong amount of seaseme seeds or is a shade too dark or light a person can ell that a figure doesn't fit right in a box or that shit is missing. just cause someone isn't paid 10 bucks an hour isn't an excuse to not do a job to the best of your ability.

Not condoning crime but, a lot of these figures are the peg warmers, not bw or rare ones. I see it as more of an FU to hasbro. If u give us enough figures in a case to make 2 baf s. This wouldn't happen as much . It also doesn't help putting a name like aim soldiers on box and 2 different figures on the box. Employees shouldn't be getting in trouble for this and I'm also betting most of the people doing this don't remember that you're on video, if u paid with CC it's on record, and a lot of places ask for id on returns even w a receipt now. They hasbro needs to get rid of thinking that "chase" figures are a good idea it turns consumers off. Collectors but legends not kids especially not small ones it's choke special w all the parts. They need to bring in a consultant who is a top level know it all board reading comic reading uber fan to help them. Maximize their profit. If I could easily get 3 bw for 15 a piece I would easily buy them for fodder, instead I bought 1. Don't they see that every store has 10 sup spidy, cap steath, Amsm , electro jus sitting on shelves going back further my tru has 2 constrictors ,2 klaws 4 drax which are 5 years old had a price of $15 when they came out then went up 24 when infinites came out and now are on so called clearance for $19.99!!! Way to maximize your sails ! Making $ is the bottom line Mattel knows it I barely see man of steel fig anymore cuz they had even amounts and sold! Same w dcu lines they sold cuz of availability. Legends sell when they are characters people want but their are only so many possible buyers who will not only buy all their figures but a huge customizer base which will buy multiples of many figures.

IF THEY DONT GET THEIR SHlT. Together in the next year or two they will lose tons of business cuz ones 3d printers are cheaper and people figure out how to scan a Bucky cap body print it in any color and etc. custom stores will be everywhere imagine being able to buy conversion kits for cable to be use with ca2 ws and stuff like that they future is bright and days of collectors having to worry about scalpera and availability Are coming to an end!!!

lets face it the people at customer service doesn't know what is being returned , lt alone what it is supposed to look like.
whenever you call Target or wALMART they always transfer you to the toy department. if you call the store and ask for a particular figure half the time they have no idea what you are talking about

The big issue surrounding the partswapping is that in the end we collectoers are the ones that get screwed because of shrink in the stores prices to offset the losses will rise. I just don't have the stones to attempt that type of thing...hard to explain going to jail over a $20 toy

im no longer going to comment on store employees taking back junk returns all sides of this argument can continue for years but truth is it'll solve nothing personally I hate seeing these in stores or stuff that has actually been stolen from and going to freaking managers to point this kind of stuff out and returning to the store weeks later to see that the item is still on the shelf in the same exact place, not even put on clearance or with a discount ticket. honestly im convinced these places and don't give a shit. i don't know if this is a all over thing or just in my part of florida but a friend has told me that Walmart doesn't care about theft of an item unless it's over 20 bucks or habitual.

I agree I cant see going thru the legal system over a toy the embarrassment alone would probly kill me, and if it didn't my mother would.

Byrnes 06-17-2014 11:03 AM

I know it's their job to work on shrink and catch people who are swapping parts, but unless you've ever worked in Retail or have a family member (wife/husband) you have no idea of the amount of work that goes into Retail as a manager. Employees(minimum wage) don't care because all they can do is tell the manager. The manager has so much on the plate that a few bucks on swap parts is the least of their concerns. And I can imagine how bad it is at massive stores like Walmart and Target. You would not believe the stories my wife tells me everyday about retail. It would blow your mind. She's been a manager for almost 20 years and I could see why they don't care about this, so many other bigger issues to deal with.

Hasbro could offer a mail in for the BAF instead of putting it in the package. But that would probably just raise the costs anyway. There really is no good answer other than people need to stop stealing.
