The GotG cartoon clings way too desperately to its dependence on the movie, going so far as to borrow a lot of its ideas and even quotes from it. Consequently, it doesn't explore as much as it should. There is a neat story arc about a war between Asgard and Spartax, and you will see a bit of world building here and there. The things that nag at me become much louder as the season progresses, like needing to steal quotes from the movie in an entirely separate context. And no one who writes any of Marvel's cartoons has ever picked up a comic with Thanos in it, he's so one-dimensional and generic in the shows. It's a shame.
The animation looks great, and there are some genuinely amusing quips and fun character interactions. It starts strong and fizzles out, really. I enjoyed half of the first season, but my uncompromising Guardians love probably colors my perceptions a bit. It's the best Marvel cartoon I've seen, which probably isn't much of a compliment.

Ah, was he? Right on the cusp, then! Thanks for the correction.
I wouldn't mind a single figure Annihilus, either.

Enigma2K2 07-25-2016 11:05 PM

Finally. An updated Symbiote Spider-man. With clenched fists.

Cyclopswc 07-26-2016 05:52 AM

I like that Angela. Todd McFarlane selling Angela to Marvel was the best thing that happened to her career. :)

trekking95 07-26-2016 01:37 PM

I hate to trash Hasbro, but I feel the TV series figures are a waste. When a billion dollar movie like the Avengers can't even get the entire crew/bad guys made, why do Netflix spin offs? The other figures they're doing look great though.

Todd McFarlane didn't sell Angela to Marvel, technically the decision was never his to make. Neil Gaiman created the character so while she originates from McFarlane's Spawn it was Gaiman who held the actual rights and was therefor able to transfer her into Marvel. I still don't really care for what they've used her for in the comics though. None of it's trash but it's not really good either. When she was just a being from another universe where she was a hunter from some Heaven who joined up with the GotG it was okay but then Marvel decided that the character needed to be tied to a mainstay so they slopped together a TV soap opera story of how she was actually Thor's long lost half-sister. This new toy is honestly the best thing Marvel has done with the character and even then it's really Hasbro doing this since Marvel doesn't dictate who gets toys and this was a fan vote anyway. All that being said I'm going to try and get one.

snake5289 07-26-2016 01:58 PM

I know it's pretty much what already happened in Spawn but I was kind of hoping to see her and Ghost Rider either partner up or face off against each other.

Oh well. Not like he's around anymore anyway.

There are less than what, 12 figures announced and the articulation is bad (has been worse) but I am opening my wallet up Hasbro. Cheers for not giving up on us.

What size is Mary Jane going to be, I take it 6 inch, since we already have a version of in the 3.75 line...

I don't know, it's great we're finally getting some new stuff, but like I said in the 3.75 appreciation, this stuff that they showed us supposed to ride out until end of the year until 2017? That doesn't like a lot, that's pretty much what 3 waves the most?

Though I still want a Justice, America Chavez, Bishop Hawkeye, White Toger and Hellcat for my collection, we've got a lot of good stuff, and I feel oodles better about the line as a whole.

There's a ronin 2 pack for reals?

So it's an updated MJ? Since we already had her in the MU already...kind of weird that they're doing that, unless it's actually supposed to be a 6 inch version which then I can understand.

Flash would suck if it tried to be dark or moody, this is why I didn't like Man of Steel. Some heroes shouldn't be dark/moody/grim, some were made to be fun and actually, y'know, heroic.

I totally agree with you on the sex scenes, it really wasn't necessary...

Yup and just whiny to me, both JJ and Kilgrave....

Agree, they're really milking the GOTG line bucks, I may end up getting rid of the 3 pack for the comics since I do like those colors a lot more.

magma169 07-28-2016 06:07 AM

Some pretty cool reveals, but if I really had to strip it down to the "bare essentials", I d say that I really looking forward for Cyclops, Symbiote Spiderman and Angela. The rest are ok, but I would only buy them if the budget allowed.
I do have to admit that Hasbro seems to have picked up the pace with these new reveals however. Some of them are completely new sculpts with pretty good paint so thats always a welcome change.

Dr Kain 07-28-2016 07:54 AM

My top three favorite reveals are Green Goblin, Dazzler, and Darkhawk. Although, Cycops is right up there.

Green Goblin did look prety sweet, however I did not see much of an improvement over the Toybiz one (I think the new one had a metallic hue but thats about it) and since I already own him I do not see me buying him again.

Darkhawk was interesting I agree, just not a "must-have" imo.

Dazzler ?! Not only the character is not very popular but I thought she didn't look that attractive either.... definite pass for me :/

See, I don't have a classic GG, just that Hulk abomination thing.

Not sure what you mean by attractive as she is a toy based on a drawing, but she matches her first appearance, and that is what matters most to me.

Sorry for the lack of knowledge here, but exactly who the hell is Angela?

She was a Spawn character who apparently the creator of her got mad at Todd McFarlane and sold her to Marvel.

It makes about as much sense as the WildCATs being part of the DC universe.

More importantly, how the hell did she beat Mysterio, Cosmo, and everyone else from the poll, when she's not even been in Marvel Comics for three years? That's just ridiculous, and I'm sorry to any Angela (who again?) fans out there, but Cosmo or Mysterio should've won.

I think part of the reason she won was her Spawn fans. Spawn was never a great comic but her character quickly built a fanbase and after the early McFarlane action figure days she hasn't seen any toys since due to ownership issues. So the ability for her to finally get a new toy was enticing as opposed to more established Marvel characters like Mysterio who are more deserving in this scale but at the same time we may get down the line anyway.

What about Youngblood and Wetworks? Did they find a new home? I never liked Youngblood, but I've always saw the potential for Wetworks.

I wonder if Hasbro will make a "party-Angela" like McFarlane did. ha ha!

Wow.

Has been for a while. When DC/Warner Bros. bought Wildstorm entertainment they integrated some of the Wildstorm universe into the DC universe. When the NEW 52 happened the Wildstorm Universe became one of the 52 universes in the DC Multiverse. They even had a short lived Voodoo series, Zelot showed up in Deathstroke for a few issues , Superman fought Helspont and some Daemonites, and Spartan and Lord Imp showed up somewhere.

They're part of the main nu52 universe with the other heroes too.
Voodoo and Grifter both had their own comics at the start of nu52.

Voodoo's was a fun read. Even had a cameo from the Flash which I hope they find a way to work that into the show.

well the NetFlix spin offs are a good idea as seeing we won't really see those characters get a movie now it seems, maybe a cameo.
Netflix only has maybe 5 characters DareDevil , Jessica Jones , Luke Cage , and soon Iron Fist, then Punisher. Then you have 3 extra spaces for well for villains, so purple man for JJ, Jigsaw or someone else for punisher , and add a villain for iron fist or luke cage.

Have the BAF as Kingpin

either way it can be a small line of characters
