*sigh* I'm never getting a Superman game am I?
|
I saw Birds of Prey Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) at Target. It was $20.99, same as Amazon's price. I wonder if this is a sign of a line-wide price increase for 2022.
Also, the Dune figures are on clearance, $7.49 ($11.99 for the Baron). https://i.postimg.cc/W1xnqhKm/IMG-20...-110335126.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/hGx0LKWk/IMG-20...-110718578.jpg |
Not enough villains in your DC Multiverse display? Get McFarlane's Wild Card and Inferno figures. :)
The body is the same for both figures, just different colors. Only the right hand has a trigger finger, so you can give one of Inferno's guns to Peacemaker. https://i.postimg.cc/wxSPrCNF/IMG-20...-161108107.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/Z5mQb6Vd/IMG-20...-161003849.jpg |

I figured out why McFarlane made the Build a Batmobile that size -- it's Robin's bed.

Was just playing with online photo editing software and came up with this:
https://i.postimg.cc/QxZJyY1r/Batwoman.jpg Similar to GL John Stewart/Hal Jordan and the two Lex Luthors, McFarlane can basically re-use Three Jokers Batgirl as Batwoman, just paint the yellow parts red and give her an appropriate head sculpt. If they're feeling generous, a different chest with character-specific emblem. |
GameStop.com has Swamp Thing in stock, and it qualifies for Free Shipping by itself.

Batwoman deserves to be more than a repaint.

Part of the problem is that McFarlane isn't universe building the way Mattel and DC Collectibles did. Todd finds designs that he thinks are cool and then makes figures of them. Once a particular story has run its course, he moves on to the next story. |

Regular armor Gal Gadot sold out quickly. Yes, Golden Armor Gal Gadot is still sitting on Target's shelves (at full price, btw), but Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Harley Quinn are the four pillars of DC merchandising (this is per Jim Lee). Anyone with a DC toy license will flog those four characters, and some will be misses simply due to sheer output (Red Son Superman is also $8-$9 now). McFarlane even made a Birds of Prey HQ, and that movie was divisive to say the least. The only conclusions to draw are: 1) maybe female characters really do sell poorly or 2) maybe someone calling the shots (could be McFarlane, could be DC) is sexist. |

As for the conclusions you listed: 1) Female characters do sell. Just look at other toy lines and you'll find figures of female characters that have sold well. You'll even find Top 10 wish lists for various toy lines that regularly have female characters that fans want to see made. And brand managers for those toy lines do look at some of those Top 10 lists and make decisions. 2) You shouldn't be calling people sexist until there is evidence of it. The conversations between McFarlane and DC/WB aren't public knowledge. We don't know what directions or mandates DC/WB gives McFarlane. And while Todd himself has said that he likes to make figures that look cool, we don't know the full decision making process his company goes through when specifically choosing what gets made. Just because we're unhappy with the results of their decision making doesn't mean that something nefarious is happening behind the scenes. As you pointed out, the pillars of the DC universe are The Trinity and Harley Quinn. Even prioritizing The Trinity takes away spots from other characters, female characters included. The only conclusion that we can tangibly draw is that McFarlane has a problem with character selection. That particular point has been a part of the conversation since the line started. Many fans want McFarlane to fill out the DC Universe. But like I said above, Todd has said in the past that they like to pick designs that look cool but aren't necessarily the classic designs. That means they're jumping from story to story and we can clearly see that in what they've chosen to base figures on: Last Knight on Earth, Metal/Death Metal, DCAU, CWTV, Injustice 2 Futures End, Snyder-Verse, White Knight, Arkham, DC Rebirth, Dark Knight Returns, etc. |
The fact that wish lists are filled with female characters indicates that there is an unfulfilled want. McFarlane (either the man himself or the company as a whole) making characters of interest to them...and most of them being male indicates sexism to some degree. This might not be overt sexism ("I prefer men over women!") but could be latent sexism (a person is sexist without even being aware of it).
Then again, maybe there's no problem, and Barbara Gordon is simply the new sixth pillar of DC behind Red Hood? ;) |

Green Lantern Hal and Prime Time
Nothing much to say about Hal as he's the same body as John. Which is totally okay, I just dislike it was put in a two pack. Superboy Prime is pretty good. The side eye needs to die unless Mcfarlane starts including a neutral head. It's worse then an extreme facial expression(cough Dark Knight Returns Superman cough). It's a shame as the eyes on these latest figures have been awesome thanks to digital printing. But it's not acceptable as it is right now. Also I'd prefer the fight have detached shoulder pads as they limit articulation and wants to tear. ------------- Now as to female figures. This line has come out during a pandemic and the figures they've done have been limited. I think some of these figures really need to be surrounded with figures you want to build the whole set with. WW84 figures for example would have works for ZSJL vs being just two figures and no Cheetah. Too early to call Batwoman. Drowned, I think suffered the most of supply. By the time it really got out, the line had moved on. |
Did you swap Rebirth Superman's legs out or just repaint them? Looks way better that way.

Found this one at Target. Others are seeing Red Hood in their stores.

@Designincase
What figure stands are you using? They look pretty sweet. Glad to see some of the 3 Jokers figures hitting retail. I have Batgirl and The Comedian but I've been waiting since Thanksgiving for Amazon to ship Batman. I'll grab the others over time. |

DC dumped this design 1 year later which means they decided to nix it after a few months to get the stories ready..........then BENDIS! Quote:

And yeah I immediately lost interest in Superman comics (my favorite DC character) the second they announced he was taking over. All the great stuff Jurgens and Tomasi and Gleason were doing just dropped for absolutely no good reason. |

Reworked the DC area. I have limited space so most I have to keep in tubs for now. Wanted to let them breath a bit so thinned it out. Spawn area is temp, I have another tub and half shelf off camera of that stuff too.
