Well yeah, when your toys look like crap they tend not to sell well :D

The original packaging was crap. I remember getting the first wave, darth maul, R2 etc on sale from Amazon. I said to myself, well I better buy them so sales go up..being a mainly “one true scale..3.75” collector, I was hesitant about jumping in.

Beyond the fact that the packaging was terrible and did nothing to showcase the figure, she looked bad. To tan, face was bad and not really feminine. I have her on my shelf, but she is no gem.

Now the new tech Hasbro has, I imagine she will look impressive.

The evil character is objectifying them but the cinematic language of the camera isn?t encouraging the audience to salivate over Leia. We feel her discomfort and disgust at the situation. Jabba is the bad guy. No one wants to be him and we root for Leia to choke the life out of him for what he?s done to our heroes.

So I guess I just don?t understand the wokist approach to abolishing all history of wrongdoings regardless of the lessons they teach in the present and the context in which they were presented in popular media while still simultaneously harping on about these same injustices at every possible opportunity. If anything, ROTJ teaches us that strip clubs are where nasty people hang out and mistreating a women will get your windpipe crushed.
But nah- female character not presented as infallible at all times = bad. Must erase.

I think the whole slave thing is also a big issue.

They'll change the name to Prisoner or Hutt Slayer. But there is WAY too much money in that character and that iconic outfit. They won't allow wokeness to hurt their bottom line. Oola will come later, when they are hitting more niche characters. People need her to finish their Jabba's palace scenes.

exactly- it will be Hutt Slayer leia (not Slave) and if anything Oola will say Jabba's Dancer but probably just say "Oola". People must not have seen the orange tiger lady Hasbro just put out wearing nothing but a black bikini.

Two points to add to the discussion:
1) Disney is about as far from woke as it’s possible to be. They’re politically indifferent. They chase sales, and if they think an action will yield more sales, they take it. If there’s a policy not to merchandise Oola or enslaved Leia (and there just isn’t any such policy), then it’s because they think the benefits of that policy outweigh the costs. Full stop.
2) There really isn’t any conspiracy to politically correct anybody’s childhood. Paranoia about identity politics is out of control right now. People terrified about “woke” people ruining the things they love make a ton of (usually very wrong) assumptions about what might be the target of this sort of ire. Are there people offended by Leia’s depiction during Return of the Jedi? Absolutely. But it’s more likely to be Nancy Reagan than your average progressive. The woke boogeyman has become such a caricature of any real person’s beliefs, it’s absurd. Don’t sweat it! And if you hear actual people make actual claims about something, maybe talk to them to try to figure out why they believe what they believe, rather than automatically assuming they have some sinister agenda to deprive white men of their culture.

You would think so, but Hasbro has a lot of trouble with Leias for some reason.

That's not "Those People", that's "Most People". Babies cry not because they feel sad, sympathy or remorse, they cry simply because they want something and they want it NOW. Sadly, most people never grow out of that stage mentally.

Slave Leia pegwarmed because she's got a face like a cock-eyed space monkey. With photo-real face painting now hopefully if they make another slave Leia, it'd be better. I'm not holding my breath though, as they have not been able to make a single Leia that looks like Carrie Fisher. She's just got one of those faces that are hard to capture, not only to Hasbro, but even these statues that cost hundreds of dollars couldn't do it. At least I have not seen one that make me go "Wow, that's Leia!"

A multi-billion dollar company has no need to crowdfund. Die, haslab. DIE.

When it comes to making giant pricey action figures that no retailer in this day and age would ever touch with a ten foot pole, they really do need those orders up front.

Your take is dumb and you should feel bad.

MeLikeJinx 12-02-2021 08:11 PM

IMO the TVC Razor Crest would have sold well enough at retail even at a high price... especially if you threw in a carded figure from the Mandolorian show that you couldn't get anywhere else. That one didn't need to be crowd funded IMO.

I think a less detailed version with maybe a single non-carded figure at a cheaper much lower MSRP might have been carried at Wal-Mart (who are also the only retailer that even carries 4" figures anymore), but the exact HasLab version with no compromise isn't going to find a place on the shelf there anymore than the 6" scaled Rancor.

MeLikeJinx 12-02-2021 10:01 PM

^ The Target Exclusive Galaxy Edge Falcon sold through I think and that thing was $400 at retail. I remember keeping track of the two I saw at my Target... hoping nobody would buy it and that it would go on clearance, but both were gone the same week they were put out.

I think he was joking about the death part but I agree about the crowdfunding part. Seems like a crappy thing to do to fans...

Yeah I just saw an 11? Godzilla toy at target for $19.99. I?m sure hasbro could have done a decent rancor at retail at a lesser price point. I picked up a mission fleet razor crest a few weeks ago for $39.99, I would think they could just expand the cockpit and do a mass release at a friendlier price point.

I?m not against anyone who orders things on the haslab crowd funding, but I think it?s just a bit greedy of hasbro to do that to its most loyal fans. Just my 2 cents since nobody axed lol

MeLikeJinx 12-02-2021 10:25 PM

^ I recently bought the Mission Fleet Razor Crest too... that size is good enough for me IMO... just gonna use it with my 3.75" figs. I saw pics on the Rebelscum forums that someone 3D printed his own cockpit that fit the 3.75" Retro Mando and Grogo and replaced the default Mission Fleet cockpit with his own custom one... thing look good IMO... wish I could do that.

Comedian 12-03-2021 05:02 AM

Well at about 7am eastern time he is at 5123. We are still not back to the high of 5146. 3 days left. He is just not picking up the steam he needs. These should have ended after Christmas. These could have been bought with Christmas money gifts etc. instead these are competing for funds to buy others gifts. Even the GI Joe jet is not taking off yet. My hope is hasbro extends these. If they extend all 3, I could get all 3 with my Christmas bonus. Otherwise, to many family members need gifts.

It's really not though, this is just the logical conclusion of voting with your dollars after people complained about Hasbro making ABC instead of XYZ. There's not a single thing scummy or unethical about it, you like the product, you pay for it, you get it! You don't like it? Then let it languish and die! If you made a product, wouldn't you rather ask people first and gauge interest rather than invest money and HOPE someone buys it eventually?

100% on the timing. I still don't understand why in hell they'd do THREE at the same time that end right before Christmas. At least with like the Super7 Turtle Van that's ending in December has options to not pay at all up front and order (Entertainment Earth). You're in for a grand here if you want all 3.

Designincase 12-03-2021 09:05 AM

Still time for a surge to happen but I feel like the surge would have started a few days about. 84 hours left.....still possible to blow though goals but not looking great.

Don't be daft. There's no way on this planet Unicron OR Galactus (using these examples because those are the ones I care about) would have been offered without a Crowdfunding op. ESPECIALLY Unicron. The tooling alone had to cost over a cool million.

Comedian 12-03-2021 10:46 AM

Dear lord did you see the GI Joe plane? The video on the haslab is awesome. You get 3 more O-ring figures. I won’t ruin the surprise but I’m totally getting the jet now.

How meta is this line from the page: "Finish this Fiasco: 10,000 backers needed to successfully fund"

They've been botching these latest Haslabs quite a bit lately. I still don't see them getting to 10K units funded, but guess we'll see.

Decent maybe, but they are trying to do something a fair bit better than decent for those loyal fans who might want more than for Hasbro to just cheap out to squeeze a release out at retailer. I really can't see how that's seen by a few as just Hasbro being greedy.
