I gotta say, Christian Bale makes a better Bruce Wayne than he does Batman

Snailbot 07-26-2012 12:01 PM

As of this post I've seen DKR 3 times and needless to say, I think it's awesome! I think some people are nitpicking things that weren't overly explained, just my opinion.

The only thing that took me out of the movie to make a 'wtf' face was the scene where Bruce comes back to Gotham. Like a lot of people here, I still wonder how he did it.

Yeah, I can imagine it but I would've liked some explanation:
"Good thing I used the underground tunnel nobody knows about"
"Good thing I stashed personal jet in Asia or South America, wherever the prison is"
"Good thing I snuck past the National Guard and walked over the ice"

These are silly but I hope that I'm conveying my desire for clarity here. Besides that, I thought the movie was a fantastic ending to my favorite movie trilogy of all time. I honestly don't know how this can ever be topped, even by the new Superman or Marvel's current crop of awesomeness.

Be careful. You're disclaimer about liking the movie will not spare you the wrath of sensitive fanboys who will accept nothing less than complete understanding that:

1. HE IS THE BATMAN
2. He's a ninja, and we all know that ninjas can do pretty much whatever they want.

That is all the explanation necessary to explain the flaws...er, I mean, this movie was flawless. Go see it 3 more times!

lol. In all seriousness, I would imagine Nolan had to cut some scenes in what is already a very long movie. Much like Whedon cut out quite a bit of material from Avengers, perhaps we can expect an explanation on the blu ray release of The Dark Knight Rises.

That would be the answer I'd give.

Not at all. Heck I'll show you, asshole :P.

M3T4L V1KING 07-26-2012 05:27 PM

Still don't know his name. That shit's mysterious.

I feel beyond stupid for never even questioning that. ._.

I think the movie just wants us to take it on faith and that isn't the worst thing. I mean, Batman would definitely find a way into the city and once there he can get his stuff but you'd think it would take some planning/arranging at least. The major problem is that we clearly see that Bruce escapes with almost no time to get back to Gotham (less than 48 hours I think). I understand that this is meant to create suspense and urgency as the clock runs down and Bruce needs to go a mile a minute. I think just giving him a week would have made a huge difference in how much disbelief they are asking us to suspend.

Basically, either Bruce had a genius secret/amazing way to get back into the city already set up from a past need or he would have needed some time to make things happen. We do know that supplies were allowed into the city on a regular basis because that is how the special forces guys got in. It they had taken 20-30 seconds of screen time to show him sneaking in with the supplies I don't think it would have ruined the pacing.

SquirtleSquad7 07-26-2012 06:55 PM

I have something I'd like to question. I saw the film twice, and after the first time, I thought I just wasn't paying attention enough. But after the second time, I still saw this.

The scene where Miranda/Talia gets caught by the terrorists (I don't know what else to call them) with commissioner Gordon, that's all fine, but when Bruce gets back to Gotham, she's back in the room with the Wayne board members? Did Bane allow her to go back or something? or am I just missing something?

Onslaught 07-26-2012 08:01 PM

Bane works for Tahlia

SquirtleSquad7 07-26-2012 08:26 PM

Yeah, I know. but did Bane allow her to go back or something? I don't get it. I feel like those scenes were taken out of order.

DogFashionDisco 07-26-2012 09:06 PM

A lot of solid points have been made thus far by you guys, but when I reflect on the film I think more about the messages it tried to convey to the general public. Bottom line, question everything.

M3T4L V1KING 07-27-2012 12:19 AM

I'm guessing all will be answered in the directors cut. Take Return of the King for example, for the longest time I thought "What the flying fuck happened to Gandalf's staff? USE IT YOU OLD FART!". Then Director's cut came out, and BOOM! Knew what happened.

Torn Prince 07-27-2012 03:38 AM

I hope we get a GOOD directors cut for this movie, considering its predecessor had none. Perhaps if we do get said directors cut, and all of these minute details are explained, people will quit nit picking over said minute details.

Bane didn't "allow" her to do anything, since he follows her orders. She probably wanted to keep an eye on Fox, since she knew how dangerous he could be if left alone.

Probably true, but doesn't that seem extremely suspicious? I think that was the point Squirtle was getting across

Possibly, but she could have easily had Bane "put her back with the others". And I doubt any of the board members would have picked up on it, given their situation and the fact that she had "suffered" along with them up to that point.

Then again, it could simply be an editing mistake and we're all reading way too much into it.

I know for LOTR they shot stuff that was only meant to go on the extended DVD release, meaning it was never supposed to be in the theater. The scene where Gandalf's staff get's broken was apparently one of those but it does feel like something that general audiences should have seen.

SquirtleSquad7 07-27-2012 06:45 PM

Oh, I assumed it was an editing mistake from the beginning! I just wanted to hear some other people's thoughts on it. :]

Perhaps they're doing the same for TDKR. I mean, only hardcore fans would pick at little details like this. I think the most part people would say "awesome movie" and move on without a question on their mind. In other words, it basically makes us feel the need to buy the Director's Cut if it comes out.

tlasjr 07-28-2012 03:34 PM

I liked TDKR but thought it would have been a better movie if it was 45 min to an hour shorter. It was good but still the weakest of the three movies.

So do you think they will pick up where this story left off for the next batman movie leading into JLA or reboot first?

D00MTR0N 07-28-2012 05:25 PM

I was surprised,I didnt like it as much as I thought I was going to,it seemed to drag and the end was all over the place.

Snailbot 07-29-2012 12:13 AM

I don't know if we'll see a director's cut. Nolan hasn't even done proper commentary on any of the bat films. I'll take a director's cut of all 3, please! With commentary! And blooper reels!

D00MTR0N 07-29-2012 03:58 PM

why is it that everyone has to rip off Vader,im sure it was not 100% intentional but bane reminded me alot of Vader(look wise),especially at the end when batman smacked his mask loose and he went down(seemed straight outa ROTJ)I guess Vader is the model for villains these days, run out of ideas?use Darth Vader, hell they even used a Vader rip off in the first gi joe movie,oh well, not a complaint more then an observation, still thought bane looked preety cool, the voice was a bit strange but I think it may have been due to bane having his face beat in,it may have ruined his nose thus giving him that nasal tone.

Black Dynomite 08-07-2012 09:37 AM

Finally saw this. I am a comic book movie fan regardless of who made it. I think the DC vs Marvel battle is kinda funny and I'd rather grab popcorn and watch than choose a side. With that said I think the general rule of Summer 2012 is to pit this movie against The Avengers. Honestly, there is no comparison. Like, if you throw the "comic book" theme out of the window, those two movies aren't even in the same genre. I think this movie was a good end to the trilogy. I like how throughout the 3 movies Nolan blended various DC storylines to create his universe. (That dickhead M. Bay should take a note from Nolan and Whedon...you can change our childhood, just dont be an ass about it). The entire movie Im thinking Blake is gonna be Nightwing but I really didn't see that end coming. I also went in with no respect for the Bane he created and instantly jumped on his bandwagon. Same for Selena. Soon as they showed her I was thinking "this is gonna be terrible". I love how she played the character. My complaints would be that it was way too long. I love the fact that, at the price of todays movies, I got my money's worth but if you are just dragging shit along just to try to be "epic" it starts wearing on you after a while. Be honest, did we really need to see Bruce attempt to get out of that hole 3 freakin times? And if you really think about it, with 3 hours of movie, was "The Batman" actually in this shit more that 45 minutes to an hour? I guess I was expecting to see Batman a lot more. Anyway, I liked the movie but personally liked Avengers more. I couldn't even sleep or think about anything else after seeing that. But thats becuase Avengers was fun and TDKR is no place for smiles and jokes so I can't see how these movies can even be compared.

Also would like to say that you guys here have done a great job of not spoiling things about this movie. Any one of you could've killed the reveals from this movie with the slip of a tongue and didn't. Thank you guys.
