Good movie, very well acted, and I really have no complaints at all, but it definitely didn't grab me like the Tobey films did. For me, that trilogy was pretty groundbreaking. This new Spidey flick is solid all around, but I just had this "I've seen this already" feeling. I guess it was a little anticlimactic for me. I read some people saying they didn't think The Lizard was a good lead villain, and I totally agree. Although, I think they did a fantastic job with The Lizard in regards to the actor and the animation,.. big big drop off from Dafoe as The Goblin. That man was born to play villain roles.

There was Spidey sense, it was just new to him. That's how he knew something was amiss when he was on the roof with Gwen.

In response to Mastersteef...
Glad you liked the movie man. A couple of points. Organic webbing is just gross and strange to me. Plus it seems impossible to produce the amount he would need to get by. Spiders have large abdomens that produce their webbing. The largest part of their body. Plus, web shooters add an element of danger, because they can run out or be damaged. Him adapting a previous technology for his own needs is what makes it work. Otherwise it would seem far fetched. Still shows off his intellect in designing the shooters. Lizard is a longtime foe and fan fav. May not be as mainstream as some foes, still pretty kick ass and long anticipated from the teasers in the Raimi films. And I don't know why people seem to think that this Spider-Man film franchise can't have it's own origin. It deserves a chance to tell its own story. No one complains about having to watch the Wayne folks get shot down time after time. Not sure its worth bashing the story based on the cognitive abilities of a 4 year old. You said he liked it, I'm sure he'll figure it out at some point. As to the chronological order, you can tell him it's #1, because it is #1. These movies have nothing to do with the Raimi films. I know you know this but you might want to explain it to him or he might mistake future villains as ghosts. As in I thought the Green Goblin was dead daddy...? As for Sandman, I think he's one of the worst Spidey villains. Just too weird for movie goers. The movie should have focused on Venom. And I know Venom was an afterthought. As for your endorsement of Tobey as the better Peter... I've been reading Spider-Man for over 20 years and I totally disagree. Wrong hight, build, look, hair, and every time he opens his mouth he just comes off wrong. I enjoyed the first two movies, but mostly because it was my boy on the big screen for the first time. I overlooked a lot in an effort to enjoy the films. And I did. They were good and had a lot going for them (Not the third). But this was the Spider-Man I've been waiting for and I is happy. |

we left the theater shooting imaginary spiderwebs at everything. now that's an endorsement! lol. Tobey is the sole reason i never cared for the other Spidey flicks. he just annoys me beyond belief... and yes, i know Peter Parker is supposed to get under your skin a bit, but Tobey was a total dipshit and hard to watch. i'm totally diggin this new approach and look fwd to the future. |
If you notice quick flashes before certain reflexes in the movie that seemed like spider sense to me. He didn't have to say "my spider sense is tingling". One big omission to me was no "with great power comes great responsibility" line. Spidey lives his whole life based off that line

Yeah, I thought it would have been in Uncle Ben's voicemail at the end. |

I don't know about the spider sense. He was attacked several times without any precognition, and shot in the leg. Maybe it's still coming to him but it did seem absent. The spider sense in my opinion is one of Spideys best powers. |

Our cousins a mouth breather.................so sad lol Wouldn't the same people that hate that they're retelling the origin story again, also hate that they used that great responsibility line? |
Quote:
:) but seriously I would have liked the responsibility line but then again I dont mind a retelling of the origin, its necessary to know what rules apply to this "universe" as opposed to "tobey's universe" but Im the rare individual that knows they cant adapt anything 100% accurately and frankly I dont mind as long as they stick to that continuity between movieverses, if that makes any sense lol. |

It's ridiculous for anyone to think this movie can't have its own start... It needed it's own origin story to set up it's ethos. Don't like it, sucks for you. But why the hell wouldn't this movie have it's own origin story? We all know there will be at least 2 more films in this series, they can't set up their own little universe...? Why bother having Green Goblin, Venom, or Dr. Oct? I mean haven't we all seen it already...? How some of you can totally gloss over the fact that the origin story in this film was drastically different than the other, and focused more on Peter's parents disappearance, is a huge distinction. So you had to sit through another origin story. At least it wasn't Tobey SM dancing around like a little emo asshole for an hour.:mad2 |
I'm not following the "no Spider sense" theory. I consider the thousand times he dodges a punch that's coming from behind him to be Spider sense.
Like FrankCastle said, just because he doesn't shout out "whoa Spider sense!" doesn't mean it isn't there. |
Or the lightning fast reflexes used to dodge multiple shots of gunfure by the police officer
|
Yeah it was there. He may not realise what the sensation means all the time (other distractions, losing focus, fear, adrenaline, etc), but he definitely displayed it in the film.
It's not a perfect ability and it can be beaten (by overloading it or negating it). Peter can be hurt even with Spider Sense. Quote:

Just saw it.....I really liked it. FYI he does have a spider sense in the movie........
|
He has the proportionate strength and speed of a spider, that is going to make a man have lightning fast reflexes and speed, as he displayed with Flash, but his spider-sense is on another level than that.
Quite frankly, he would never have gotten shot in the leg had he had it. The director isnt an idiot, I'm sure it will be develop in the coming sequels. |

I saw it on the third and now is my time to "rise" and put in my 2 cents.
I loved it. I will always have a special place in my heart for the 2002 Movie, and I still feel that raised the bar on what superhero movies were like at that time (Steel anyone?) and it helped get the films we get today but... This Spidey rocked. I liked how his environment was filled with drama but Spidey himself wasn't. Sorry Tobey, no crying over not having Mary Jane while she is dating everyone else but you. Even though this poor Parker was put through the ringer he still has a sense of humor about things, and I like that. Plus I liked the fact that he had a girlfriend. No fawning, no heartbreak not having one, no love triangle with his best friend or Flash for that matter, just a simple girlfriend. Yeah he was shy at first, but normal. It was kinda cool how this Spider-Man seemed a bit more limited in his abilities compared to previous films. He relyed a lot more on his wall crawling, and his webswinging wasn't all that elaborate. It is good because he is still learning how to use his powers, and it saves for more dazzling visuals in the later films. It also gave him a sense of flaw, and it makes room for him to grow, and learn not to come home with a beaten face. I am sure in the next one he'll have gotten much better at this. Lizard IMHO wasn't one of the best villans in the comics, but hey they kept him alive, and he was great for warming up our hero up for the next lunatic that decides to pick a fight with him. I also like how Norman Osborne is kinda like an anonymous character even to the fact that all we see of him is a silhouette. I expect great things from this, but my only question is... Where is Harry in all of this? Maybe he'll meet Peter at college. Plus since his character is (SPOILER ALERT) dying, it only makes sense for him to need a formula that'll increase his chance for survival... and then some. Also because the set up was so right, I think it would be cool to introduce Eddie Brock as he was introduced in the Ultimate story line, but then have him become more like the Venom we know and love. (hopefully they'll stick to McFarline's artwork as the look for him) Last but not least Gwen Stacey... She is such a good character that I actually wouldn't mind if they did away with Mary Jane altogether and just kept her Peters love interest for the remainder of the films. I am biased as I do plan on marrying Emma Stone someday even though my wife doesn't agree. |
