A few of my recent purchases. I don't often buy 3 3/4" figures, but I really like the look of the Rebels figures. And I love the Figma figures I have so adding Thor was a no brainer!

Are those the Datong Flames? How much are they for you there?

TomsToyChest 11-22-2014 06:42 PM

Got some more Predators today at Toys R Us:

I found another Elder. This one will be my opener for a future review so my previous Elder is going into the MIMB collection in spite of the crimp on the top of the card back:

And I also picked up an Enforcer:

Does that mean if you used the self check out you could have just put them in a bag with the Guardians and left with free toys?

I've never used one before. It could be it's automated to summon a manager if the item isn't found in their store inventory system.

The whole experience serves to illustrate yet again that Wal-Mart is just another example of a bloated American corporation that doesn't give a damn about its customers. If someone gets mad that they can't buy an item that's mistakenly put out on a shelf by an inept employee or manager, no biggie, we'll easily get hundreds more customers into our stores to replace the one that gets upset about our "item not found" computer inventory screw-ups.

"Welcome to Wal-Mart". Yeah, right.

Nice. I wish I could buy some of those in bulk. The flames and the upcoming explosions.

Those self checkouts only call the " cashier" watching the area. If thwy can the can tell the machine to sell the item or let a csm or actual manager deal with you. If an item doesn't ring up do not walk out with your free item. Loss prevention will involve the police. I once saw one of thise machines pop about 2 grand out for no reason what so ever and the sales clerk didn't notice if I was inclined to thievery I could have taken it but I like the fact that my butt has not been sodomised.

WVMARVEL 11-22-2014 09:21 PM

I found the new wave of DC Multiverse figures tonight at Walmart as well. Bought the whole wave. When the self checkout would not ring through, the self checkout overseer came over and overrode the computer and typed it in. Just told her the price. And yes, I was honest. No need to needlessly tempt karma to bite me in the behind. Sorry to hear that not everyone has had the same luck.

And now for the aforementioned incident:

In addition to the Guardians figures, I found some new Arkham 3.75 inch figures: Arkham Origins Joker, Harley Quinn, Batman and Black Mask. Wow, I thought to myself, I didn’t know these had come out. Since we don’t get new stuff very often in my area I put the four new Arkham figures in my cart along with the Guardians and headed for checkout.

The Guardians rang up just fine, however the Arkham figures all came up item not found. The cashier was clueless as to how to proceed (perhaps it was a new or seasonal employee) so she put on her flashing register light to summon a manager. The manager came over, saw what I had and suspended the transaction. The manager then took all the Arkham figures and then went over to the customer service desk with them, using a computer to do something, what exactly it was is a mystery. After a few minutes the manager came back to the register and I was informed that the Batman figures should not have been out on the shelf and that I couldn’t buy them. I asked why and was told they’re part of a Black Friday event. So I asked if I could at least put them on layaway since I’d already gotten them from the toy section and was told absolutely not, you (emphasis on the word you) can’t have these figures at all.

I had already been having a rotten day so at that point I hit the ceiling. I not so nicely said that using Black Friday as a reason to not sell these figures to me was the dumbest g-damn excuse I ever heard and that if your employees don’t know what products to put out on the shelves then you (and I echoed the emphasis on the word you) being the manager need to take your thumb out of your ass and start doing your job to make sure that your employees know when to put out the correct products on the shelves at the correct time.

At that point the cashier was backing away from the register along with the next customer in line behind me. The manager then told the cashier to finish my transaction as quickly as you can and then walked away with the Arkham figures towards the back of the store where the toy section was located. The cashier then dumbly asked if I still wanted the Guardians figures. I told her yeah, I walked up here with them to buy didn’t I? She finished the transaction and I left.

Anyway, before the Arkham figures were seized from me, I wanted to share my observations of them with everyone: many of the Joker and Harley figures both seem to have derpy eyes, and some of the Harley figures also have a defect where a blonde lock of hair can obscure about a quarter of her face. It might be fixable with a hair dryer but I won’t know until I get one in hand at a future date. Batman once again has a cloth cape, same buck as Arkham City Batman with some minor detailing differences on the costume. Black Mask appeared to be using the same buck as Two-Face and comes with a gun and an alternate head sculpt. Harley comes with her over-sized mallet.

There were plenty of Jokers, a few Harleys and Batman’s, but only one Black Mask. So I’m guessing Black Mask is going to be the hard one to find.

While that is a really crappy thing to happen, and you were completely justified if she was acting that way, at least she saved you from ending up spending ten bucks on this:

Mattel could really have something here, if they'd just go the extra mile like Hasbro does on (most of) their SW figures.

SpeedBreaker 11-23-2014 01:37 AM

I've been In Search Of this figure for a while...

Trivial Psychic 11-23-2014 08:49 AM

I ran into the Joker and Batman multiverse figures this morning while picking up some milk...no Harleys or Black Mask, and while the head sculpt isn't my favorite, the Joker is a must if you have Batman, and the clean paint apps and look of the figure overall is very serviceable.

http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...123_081857.jpg

I too had issues with the figure not being in Walmart's system, but it was simply dealt with by the cashier entering the department the figure came from, and the honest to goodness price. Whoever was flat out denied the sale because of Black Friday or whatever else excuse they came up with should file a complaint straight to the top of the food chain. The only reason you should be denied sale is if the figures were recalled, street dated, or you were not the appropriate age for what was being bought (such as tobacco or alcohol products, or certain movies and videogames.) While I'm sure that no one will be fired over it, Walmart is in the business of making money, and if they find that someone is hindering that business, I'm sure it won't be long until that person is finding work elsewhere if they continually shoo customers away from giving them their hard earned cash.

On another note...it always appalls me to see anyone here suggest the idea of doing something entirely dishonest (and illegal) like KNOWINGLY walking out of a store with unpaid figures. This is REALLY bad advice and very seriously something that should not even be suggested. Like someone said earlier, knowingly stealing a toy, or anything for that matter...even if it is by "accident", can get you into some serious ****, as loss prevention WILL get the police involved.

I once saw a lady get arrested at a grocery store for eating a sandwich while she was shopping, then accidentally forgetting to pay for it (the wrapper was still in the cart) as she walked out the front door. You should have seen the look of horror on her face as the police called CPS to take her kid away as she begged them tearfully to just let her pay for the three dollar sandwich. It is not worth being arrested, fined, or given jail time (not to mention other repercussions that could take place, like losing your driver's license, shopping privileges, or your job,) over a 10 dollar action figure.

This is probably at me for my rage post earlier. I in no way condone or promote theft of any degree and was only intending to make a rhetorical question to criticize Wal Mart's generally poor actions. This was clearly delivered poorly on my part if this has become the perceived reception and it is not my intention to promote or advise illegal activity.

No worries En Sabah Nerd, I know you're just like the rest of us, and you're very passionate about this hobby that we all love. I wasn't implicating anyone in particular. I have seen this type of activity seemingly condoned and even encouraged from other posters on threads such as this one and others before in the past, and it never fails to shock me how seemingly willing the lengths that others are willing to go and advise to continue to enjoy their hobby.

I was just hoping to curtail others from entertaining such ideas in their heads before they started. I guess that's the old dog in me coming out...You can call me McGruff in this case...lol.

Thanks for the information on self-checkout. I never see any employees in the vicinity of those lanes when I've shopped at my local Wal-Mart so I've never given any thought to using them.

@Trivial Psychic: Even though I have a very large distaste for American corporations like Wal-Mart I would never EVER entertain the thought of walking out of any retail store that I choose to patronize... be it Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R Us, whatever... with unpaid merchandise. I'm fully aware that computer glitches can and do happen. The gripe that I had in this particular instance was the manager's resolution to the issue and I feel it was handled very poorly.

It does no good to complain to the top of the food chain. As I stated previously, corporations like Wal-Mart don't care. For every customer lost, there are hundreds upon hundreds lined up to take their place. Their sole purpose in this life is to make money and if they lose a customer or two along the way, oh well... life goes on.

Judging the wrestler's tights and facial expression, I wanna say that the wrestler is either Ken Kennedy, or Kenny Dykstra, although I'm about 99 percent sure it is Ken Kennedy (now currently wrestling in TNA as Ken Anderson.)

yeah.. um.. walmart won't get the police involved for a $10 toy.. they'll just bring you into a back room, threaten you, and tell you that you're not allowed in the store ever again.. for them to involve the police the attempted theft needs to total above $20 or $25 if i recall correctly. that being said.. stealing is dumb.. so don't do it.

Bradsdadg 11-24-2014 04:34 PM

Happened to me at Kmart once. They put out Lego minifigs before they were to go on sale. I picked up a pack and brought one to the register, not knowing when the sale date was. They had to call over the manager and they wouldn't sell it...

I've heard this from a friend that was on the loss prevention team but figured he was joking. I seen to many random idiots getting in the back of police cars at this one Walmart to even think its half a good idea to steal.
