I feel you, i was so on the fence with this. Not with the wave per se..but more so with ordering another wave of figures. I talked myself down but then thought...if i get them, I'll have them.... no hunting for figs or BAF parts, and easily sell off what i don't want. so i placed the order. i was a HAIR away from canceling my (upcoming) Cap wave..i. mean i was on the page with my mouse over the CANCEL ORDER button, but kept the pre-order. I decided from RIGHT NOW ..(until my finances are where i want them) I will try my best NOT to purchase any 'already released' figures. no more old X-men or avengers or any of that. I'll stick with new figs only. I too, will be doing a LOT of ebaying(just selling things i don't like...not parting with any goodies) to assist with getting me where i want to be OR like you, to pay for upcoming figures or waves. I just went on BBTS and cancelled all the figs i had in my bag O' loot, and cancelled all of my pre-orders EXCEPT for Firestorm figs. (all time fav hero). Including my DBZ figs :( (and lawd knows i love those), figurarts Harley, Legends of Tomorrow, Icons, etc. If i can stick to MOSTLY just legends, I think it'll be better.. i did a rough estimate of what i spent on toys over the last year and DAMN...no bueno...and its really no coincidence that the spending started a YEAR AGO...when i joined the ARK ... (this is where i displace blame..i mean ..why should i take responsibility??) Gotta get this monkey under control.... and it's a big fukkin' monkey... |
Yeah I'm a completionist on the 3.75 line up until the new comic packs, I don't care about current comic book iterations.
But thankfully I pumped the breaks on the legends figures. I want every MCU figure and I also collect 90's versions of figures too, but that is it! X-men is the likely exception, but next wave I will try my hardest to only get Cyclops and Colossus. I'm also trying to only get figures that had 5" toybiz figures. http://i.imgur.com/WXywHU4.jpg |
Thankfully, toys are my primary hobby, and a hobby that the wife and I share, so the amount spent isn't as much of an issue, but we do have to be more selective. Which is why I need to eBay to get the Dr. Strange case - it's something I want a lot more, so it's my responsibility to figure out how to get it (and what to do with the extraneous stuff once it arrives). Things like X-Men waves, where I want EVERYTHING and my wife likes how happy I get with X-Men stuff, we make a point to buy with our standard collecting budget.
Because I figure just getting the ones that we're definitely adding to the collection (Nico, Enchantress, probably Voodoo and Iron Fist, and maybe Mordo) and then trying to get the remaining Dormammu pieces by themselves is gonna be murder (seriously, who's gonna sell off his head if they have to try and sell off Astral Strange seperately?), so it's more economical to just get the case and figure out what to do after that. Though the 'regular' Comics Strange may become custom fodder, and the Astral Strange might be worth using to work on my dry brush skills... |

yeah man when i rolled up in the ark my 3.75 game was STRONG and i didn't bother with legends... last wave i bought of 3.75 was the white queen wave and the only figure I picked up since was Gamorra. (though i am eyeballing that Rage figure). Started Legends circa the Hulkbuster wave (and even sold most of those after i took out BAF parts (shout out to Boy Blunder..) Ended up going back to purchase those figs and have went BERSERK with Legends every since.... Fun ride tho'... and nice paint job there Dubs.. Quote:
Nah..once i achieve my goal ( i love it when a plan comes together ) and change the WAY i make purchases...it'll be all gravy |
whoops..double post

I'm kind of thankful that all I pretty much collect now are the 6" legends and a handful of the 3.75" MU (I'm NOT going to call those legeends!) figures, and every once in a while a 3.75 Star Wars figure with the good articulation. Time was I was spending a lot of money on Joes, Star Wars, Legends, so scaling back to collecting mostly just one line is definitely helpful.
I mean, I'd LOVE to see the 3.75 line get back to the good old days but it's just not, not for me. Meanwhile I'd actively made a decision to cut down on Star Wars and Joes 5-6 years ago. It's funny, about 1998 (when I started collecting again since childhood) to 2005 I would definitely ranked my collecting as Star Wars--Joes--Marvel. Now it's Marvel and small tiny blips on the radar with SW. I haven't bought a single Joe figure in 5 years (though I wouldn't mind this year's fan club exclusive figure!) My heart and home are definitely captured by Marvel now. |
