I posted more pictures on the Christmas/Holiday Haul thread.
Tacit Ronin does need a base to stand secure though, his knees don't seem capable of long-term standing. That damned QC!;)

What gears of war guy is that??

It's the NECA (well that's a given I suppose) 3.75" Clayton Carmine, I'd been considering getting the 7" one for a while but it's not easy to find or cheap where it is. This version's quite nice though for a little guy, the pose isn't on par with Marvel universe figures but it's good. The detail however is awesome for a 3.75" figure, the tattoos are spot on and you can actually read the Anthony and Benjamin bit (it's easier with a magnifying glass), and the overall look is great. The only thing is that he doesn't have his custom markings on his armor like the "grub killer" mark and what not. I've seen the other 3.75" figures too but I think Clayton gets a leg up for wearing a helmet.

I think the gears of war 3 3/4ths line could have done a lot more, granted, I own most of the figures and I love them all, I just feel like the potential was squandered. It sucks. Neca can do some pretty damned good work on even the small guys.

snake5289 12-26-2014 11:57 PM

I remember seeing those 3.75 GOW figures at FYE one time and all I thought was I'd loose it and buy every one they put out ever if NECA did Predator and RE in that scale.

Guess they didn't think doing other lines in 3.75 was worth it since they haven't done anything since GOW as far as I know.

I don't even remember if they made any Locusts for the heroes to fight in the 3.75" scale. This could have been a cool way to have your Gears fighting a horde of Locusts without taking up as much space as it does to do that with the 7" figures.

They only did like the two waves and a single exclusive figure that I know of in this scale and from what I've seen they didn't sell entirely great. Either they read the signs from how these performed or it's possible that they just elected not to do it with any other line, I dunno.

Falconhood, the Kre-o Terror Drome set was released near the beginning to mid November, as TRU was just starting to mark down their Kre-o sets. I think the release was exclusive to online, as I did not find it any local stores, and none of the stores that I went to asking about seemed to even know what it was. Heck, I didn't even know it had released until I saw a review on it on the General's Joes website a few weeks ago...

I wholeheartedly disagree with your statement that NECA does more than most companies to fix and replace problems. If the problems I mentioned previously had been limited to one or maybe even two waves of Predator figures then maybe that statement would hold more weight. On the past 10 waves of Predator figures, including the exclusives like you’ll find at TRU or SDCC, I have either run into or at the very least heard about the same problems on a consistent basis. And as previously mentioned, there have been well-documented QC problems with their other figure lines as well. That shows me that Randy and the rest of the NECA crew don't really give a damn about the QC of their figures because they've had more than ample opportunity to fix the problem and have done nothing.

While I love NECA for it's own reasons (mostly because I love many of the franchises it holds, in particular Friday the 13th and Robocop...) I have to take Tom's stance on this argument, especially after tonight, where I noticed that as I was taking a figure out of the clam shell, before I could even remove the twist tie holding it it's plastic housing, it was already broken.

Guess what line? Pacific Rim....AGAIN.

It appears that the shoulder joint on Tacit Ronin's was already broken, or broke during the removal of the figure from the plastic bedding molded around it, thanks to a faulty plastic pin holding the joint together. This really pisses me off, because they have had several waves already to get the problems corrected with the fragile plastics being used, especially on the joints, and once again, NECA has failed miserably to do anything about it. This is also the FOURTH major QC issue (I'm not bitching about paint apps here...) that I've had over FIVE figures...(all of them Jaegers.)

We should not have to treat our figures like precious dinosaur bones in the side of a mountain every time we open one up to simply display on our shelves, gently having to cut around the plastic with an entire cache' of Craftsmen tools just to safely get to the figure inside, only to have the damn thing fall apart seconds removing it. It's BS, and the QC issues, especially with Pacific Rim, is getting old already. I've had 3 dollar Transformers from Big Lots that could run rings around these things in terms of durability, and these are fully priced, $20 dollar toys...

What makes this really shitty, is that NECA offers NOTHING in the way of customer service to help correct these problems. Their website's customer service form reads like a police report, and they straight up say on their website but in only slightly nicer terms..."Something wrong with our stuff? Piss off and go try the retailer you bought it from,...Maybe they can help."

Hopefully TRU will be able to help me on this one, as thankfully while I no longer have the receipt, I was smart enough to keep the digital version of it on my phone. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...three...four....FIVE TIMES? Shame on me. And oh yeah...F'U. That'll be the last time I ever invest in the Pacific Rim line...

The GI Joe Kre-o Terror Drome is only available via ToysRUs online store - KRE-O G.I. Joe Terror Drome Set (A8604) - Hasbro - Toys "R" Us

It is currently in stock but back up to full price. I got it for half-off during their Black Friday sale.

How's lady j and baroness? Are their faces as derpy as the promo pics that came out a few months ago?

Il Cattivo 12-27-2014 03:55 PM

the eyes on lady jaye are a bit derpy and baroness' lips are painted a bit off centered. not great but nothing too bad. it was the best one on the peg.

So cool ! I had no idea that Hasbro was doing a Kreo version of Bulletman !
I love the concept behind those old Adventure Team Joes, and I would like to see Hasbro revive that line with 3 3/4" figures, like the ones offered by the G.I. Joe Collectors' Club a few years ago.

Trivial,

I lost count at the number of times I've had problems with the Predator figures. I'm quite concerned about running into more with the last of the Predators I have lined up to open for future reviews.

TimothyR stated I was going a little too far with my criticism on this problem. And you know what... that's fine. Sooner or later he'll start experiencing the QC issues like you have had on your Pacific Rim figures or in my case, Predator figures. It's not a question of if, it's a just a matter of when.

I once had hope that the QC problems with NECA figures would get sorted out. Randy Falk himself has allegedly acknowledged there were problems with the Predator figures in the past. I understand that problems sometimes occur during the manufacturing process and take time to fix. But as I said previously, I've run into the same ridiculous problems with the last 10 waves of Predators. That is more than enough time to get these types of problems straightened out.

As you noted, the NECA customer service is especially non-existent. After all, they got your money so why should they give a damn if they sold you a broken figure.

I would normally be curious about what Randy and the other guys at NECA would have to say about all these rampant QC issues with all of these figure lines. But then again, I have to keep in mind that NECA is just another American company where money trumps QC and you know what, Randy's too busy to give a damn about the QC issues that are plaguing his company's figures because he's more interested in counting his cash or sending out teaser shots (or as I call them, cookies) of the upcoming overpriced figures to the NECA cheerleaders who dot the cyber landscape on Twitter and other social media outlets.

Anyway, I was sorry to read about your Pacific Rim figure breaking. Unfortunately I don't think TRU is going to be able to help you. I was told on one of my more recent visits that they will not accept a return on an opened figure and will refer you directly back to the manufacturer to have the matter resolved, which in this case would be... NECA!

I definitely get why you distrust NECA on account of how often they've failed you, though I guess it does still strike me as strange that it was the Predator line that you experienced most trouble with. I always look those over if I find any in stores and they always looked more consistently acceptable to me, good enough paint and I don't usually see anything like my Hive Wars' arm. Combining that with the good quality of 6 out of 7 Predators I had it looks like the line is generally good, key word being looks. I absolutely see why their Jaeger line has so many bumps since these robots can have some very strange designs like Tacit Ronin that almost any company would have a hard time making it look good and have any pose at all, though their Kaiju line is much more solid on all fronts.

Do you actually consider NECA lines overpriced? I always thought they were actually pretty well priced when you consider the 6" toy from Hasbro is $20. Some NECA stuff goes for less than twenty and is still bigger and better looking, but then with less durability and/or pose. It is worth mentioning, since I haven't before, that since I grew up having the McFarlane Spawn stuff (which was all looks and no usable pose) I don't really care if NECA stuff has too much pose. I'm really glad they give us the pose they do, but I wind up only focusing on moving heads and arms for most of the stuff I get from them. This could be another reason I don't discover the QC issues you do, I don't really dig deep enough to find them.

Finally, it feels like you put a curse on TimothyR. Just the way you worded it had this kind of foreboding thing going on. I know you wished me luck in avoiding NECA's QC landmine field and then I wished you luck in your toy pursuits, so I don't know it just kind of gave me a chuckle how you said that bit.

I took Tacit back to TRU today, and thankfully they were able to accept the return, being that the figure was damaged in a manner that one is not able to spot from simply looking at the packaging. It also helped that I returned all of the original packaging, which I'm helps TRU in the write off process so they get their money back from the vendor. Of course though, there were no Tacit's available to even exchange as NECA's distribution is nearly as pathetic as their customer service, at least in my town.

It's a damn shame, because I'm somewhat of a completionist when it comes to collecting certain lines, and Tacit was a figure that I was eagerly looking forward to. I've seen places online where I can pick him up for fairly cheap, but I wonder if it's even worth the trouble at this point. I may still pick him up, because I really wanted that figure, but sure enough, going forward, I'm done with the line.
