I don't have the leader Jetfire, but yeah he seemed pretty cool to me when I found a couple at TRU. The price does seem a bit much but like I said I don't have one so I can't really say if it's worth it or not.

Barefootabe 01-01-2015 06:13 PM

im not the biggest TF fan..i just buy a figure when im really happy with both alt modes. jetfires jet mode is close to perfect as far as TF toys go

I agree, Jetfire was probably the best TF non Masterpiece figure that came out this year, only if Rhinox would have been bigger.

Phantomcrow 01-01-2015 07:33 PM

Early Birthday gift to myself. Thanks to B&N for these.
After seeing them in person , they are really nice and I can not wait for the new ones this year.

From the clearance rack at K-Mart. A TF hot cocoa and cookie mug set. Megatron w/ mace hand is on the back.

New Lego sets are out, Yay!!!

Saw the new series of Alien figures at TRU and they are the best ones yet. I only picked up the Dog Alien this trip. The paint apps on Kane look great, Bishop is really nice, but the Dog Alien takes the cake for this wave. Looks great and even comes with a stand and tail support.

Well of course the Dog Alien is the winner of the wave, it's the only actual alien in the group. I ordered mine yesterday so I will have to wait to enjoy it in hand.

@Feijai: I would say Rhinox is my transformer of 2014. He could have been bigger yeah, but he is clearly still larger than the typical deluxe.

Dr Kain 01-01-2015 09:54 PM

I actually think Bishop is the winner. But then, I don't have any interest in the Dog Alien.

kylactus 01-01-2015 10:09 PM

can the face hugger come off of Kane? if so what does his face look like underneath?

Bishop definitely looks nice, I understand some people are against the Dog Alien simply because it's from the third movie which is when the franchise dropped the ball. I dig the dog alien as a creature so it's my choice for winner, Bishop is easily second.

The facehugger is not removable, there's nothing beneath it. NECA couldn't get John Hurt's likeness rights so they went with this very scene-specific figure. I do think it looks quite nice overall, but it's also basically a toy of a dead guy.

As far as I can tell the Facehugger does not come off. I believe I heard that they could not secure likeness rights for John Hurt. So they made this version of Kane. I find it strange about the rights that they made the War Doctor figure for Doctor Who just fine, but I am sure every property is different. I have heard there were rights issues with a couple of the ALIENS Marines also.

I was more excited for the Bishop , but I think he will sit on the shelf longer at TRU. The Aliens seem to go a lot faster than humans. Plus the eyes were a bit derpy, so I will look for others.

En Sabah Nerd 01-01-2015 11:04 PM

As far as I know NECA can't do anybody but Hicks or Hudson from the corps.

Which is funny considering their faces aren't even accurate. They only slightly look like the actors. I fail to see how this would get in the way of the others.

Are they showing up at TRUs? I haven't seen anything Alien in stores in months.

Maybe the actor likeness is still needed to even do the character at all? I don't know. I would say the figures have good likeness to the actors all things considered. I tend not to get the more basic human character figures, the only NECA toy I have with a full human face is Hero Ash from Evil Dead 2 and it looks pretty spot on to Bruce. Whenever I look at the various figures based on actors it is more than a passing resemblance, I mean some like Stallone or Schwarzenegger are easier to capture so they look great while Biehn and Paxton have less remarkable faces so it's harder to pin down. I will say the individual Hudson overdid the jaw/mouth area, the two pack Hudson looks closer to Bill. Hicks was switched where individual was good likeness and two pack version had too crazy an expression.

Regarding your question, yes some people are finding series 3 at TRU. Various people have been posting on Twitter that they found them, though since series 2 came out back in February the Aliens presence has been very light. There was the one two pack and then the queen, but TRU doesn't even sell her in stores.

you can disagree and love it all you want.. like i said, i don't like lights or sounds either.. but they're charging the price of a proper leader class figure for something that isn't.

it's great that you got it for $35.. i think $30 is the right price for that figure.. but $45 plus tax is insane.

i mean, look at the paint apps they got rid of between the first time a photo was leaked to its release.. it's unbelievable that they're going to charge that kind of price then not even bother leaving the paint apps on it. add that to the fact that it's completely hollow and light as a feather.. it's just very underwhelming and could've been sooo much better had it been made/released 5 years ago when the leader class was great.

plus, he's got an identity disorder. i would MUCH rather them gone either full on G1 toy or full on cartoon.. this mix between the two is shitty and winds up giving him a giant fuselage on his back.

it's been 30 years and they've never released a cartoon version of jetfire/skyfire.. so, that also adds to my disappointment in the figure.

i feel like if takara never releases a masterpiece version, there will never be an official toon version of the character, which is terribly disappointing.

Ran into one lone TIE pilot today among a sea of Leias and Greedos at TRU. There was no way I was leaving was leaving without him.

While I feel that this may not have been the strongest choice of figures to put out there due to there not being a proper vehicle for him, he does look good on the back of the black speeder bike (even better so since he has the Imperial logo on his helmet and shoulders, matching the speeder,) and fits in nicely with the Shadow Troopers. My only gripes lie in the fact that the peg holes are in the heels of his feet (unlike the Scout Trooper who has them in the front of his foot,) and the fact that I feel a little skimped on accessories. I wish he would have came with a smaller pistol in addition to his blaster.

Yeah they even gave the Stormtrooper a gun they don't actually have in the movie, so giving the pilot an imperial pistol doesn't feel like too big a request. Anyway good find, I've seen this wave at two different stores and this guy was the only one missing.

Thanks on the congrats...I was kind of surprised that I ran into him at all, with him being the only new figure on the peg no less.

I wasn't initially thrilled with this guy being released, but once I picked up the Shadowtrooper set from Target, I kinda penciled him in as a must get, since his armor works so well with the Shadowtroopers. The first thing I did when I picked that set up was to pull the scout trooper off the bike, give him the black pauldron from my sandtrooper and slip a sniper rifle into his hands. With reactive armor that allows him to blend into his environment like the Predator, it seemed a waste keeping the sniper posted on the back of a bike.

Now this TIE fighter pilot sits comfortably on the black speeder bike, which looks really awesome and hilarious at the same time, since the TIE pilot's helmet is essentially a base stormtrooper helmet with a sort of bigger helmet on top. It gives it a pretty awesome look that makes sense, while giving it an almost comical "safety first" look as well. Not including a smaller pistol is kind of a bummer, but at least Hasbro was kind enough to give him a holster for his standard issue blaster for weapon storage while he rides his new speeder, so no complaints there at all.

All in all, the point is...wasn't thrilled with the character choice, but I'm loving the purchase. =)

I want them to do an AT-AT pilot now, I always kind of liked their look better than the regular TIE pilots. It's the shoulder armor and color conformity with the rest of the empire that does it for me, the 3.75" AT-AT pilot from the legacy line is one of my favorite SW 3.75" figures still. The AT-AT pilot and a Snowtrooper are the top of my wanted imperial 6" figures wishlist.

Edit: please post a pic of the pilot on the black speeder, I'd like to see how that looks.

Kernel 01-02-2015 10:43 PM

I stopped by TRU and was stoked to find exactly what I was looking for, a neca luca/gorilla grodd/ King Kong. There was only one left on the pegs. I'll have to break out my neca godzilla. NECA has been killing it lately, my pic doesn't do Luca justice.

I always liked the look of the Covert Ops Clonetroopers (I love that purple, black, and grey scheme) and Commander Gree from ROTS, and the Kashyyyk troopers (especially the scout) in general. My favorite trooper has already been represented in the Black Series however, as the Biker Scouts were far and away my favorite.

Here's a few pics of the TIE Pilot on the Black Speeder. It's not ACBA...but you get the idea. Because the peg holes on the bottoms of his feet are located at the heel, he doesn't sit as perfectly as the regular scouts (who have peg holes on the front of their feet) but still...I think it comes off looking pretty slick.

An in scale TIE fighter would be close to 20" tall and I'm sure it would cost way too much, Hasbro already charges too much for the speeder bike pack and the Jabba so I don't want to think what amount they'd want for a full ship.
