I did a simple part swap custom and now I have fully Catted out Outback and more traditional looking Duke!

That's a GREAT idea! I think I'll do the same. Now Outback is fully camouflaged in case he needs to sneak into an orange grove.

What is Bazooka doing though...

Reminds me more of Cartoon Flint colors.

Boldly showing off his strength lol

I was out hunting yesterday and finally saw x3 of the retro carded Gung Ho at Walmart.

Trying out for the ginyu force? ;)

I was at Target the other day, and I saw the Duke set and passed. But I'm thinking about going back and grabbing one. I have the Breaker/RAM set already, and don't need it, but it's tempting.

scarrviper 01-17-2023 08:08 AM

Saw one Bazooka today at target, but his paint was a mess, so I passed.

For now, I'm passing on the Duke & ram set.

^ Nice collection of Joes! I don't think my visual OCD would allow me to display one of each trooper like that though... would probably need at least 2 of each... except for squad leaders, officers or variants.

Sounds like we have the same visual OCD. I'm not a troop builder per se, but when it comes to troops, it doesn't look right to only have one. Especially the Crimson Guards, you got to have 2 - one on each side - next to CC or the Crimson Twins.

I have given thought to get the retro-carded Crimson Guardsman to have at least two. That way I'm not buying two of the exact same figure. The Paoli Twins and the Crimson BAT are definitely on the menu as far as COBRA is concerned.

Apparently today is G.I. Joe day, and Hasbro Pulse is going to have more Serpentor and Dr, Mindbenders available. So if anyone missed out today is another chance.

Also they released a render of Snow Job with all of his accessories, which looks nice.

Dr Kain 02-07-2023 04:44 PM

Well, the Joe line is pretty much done now that Cory has been laid off.

Fucking Hasbro! Thank the gods there's only like 2 unannounced characters left I care about.

flansered 02-08-2023 07:29 AM

All of the recent TF and PP Target exclusives are available to order again on the website.

Cory did very little (if any) of the actual sculpting of the characters. He primarily handled in-house revisions and a bit of detail. Lenny doesn't either. He's a project lead. The sculpts are all executed by independent sculptors. They are Fred Aczon (2D Toys), Paul Harding (Harding Studios) and I THINK Arlen Pelletier.

It's understandable that you aren't aware of those facts. Lenny engages in a very common project lead/creative director dick move. He assumes any and all credit for the work and hands out credit where it isn't due. And Cory seemed all too happy to accept it. I believe Cory was the low man on the team. That's why was let go.

You better believe that Bobby Vala is watching these layoffs with great interest, and it wouldn't surprise me if he leaves the light on for them...

Probably right. I guess by now Vala needs a few more people to kick around. Cory may be a perfect fit for his completely original line of totally original figures. (NOT snarking at you, my dude. Snarking at Booby)

It's still bullshit either way.

As for Vala, that's great, but I don't have any interest in a military line not named GI Joe. This is one of those cases where brand name trumps anything else for me.

What's "bullshit either way"? Him getting layed off? Yeah that sucks for him. But it's very far from the death of the line. I doubt we'll even notice his absence. Now, if Fred and Paul are fired, then the line IS pretty much done.

Him getting laid off. This si not the economy to be laying off people!

GizmoTron 02-08-2023 03:40 PM

But this is the kind of economy that is what results in these layoffs. Not that there's ever a good time for layoffs ever, they always suck.

At any rate, these toys are designed 18 months+ in advance, so Hasbro could get rid of everyone with G.I. Joe and hire a different team yet it wouldn't be noticeable from a product standpoint for a long time.

Yes, which is bullshit. Are companies trying to redo the Great Depression?????

Every company laying off people right now need to put people's needs over their own fucking bank accounts for a change!!

None taken. Though I often wonder what's the beef people have with Bobby Vala to be quite honest with you. I get that he's bitter at Hasbro and can be quite polarizing at times, and definitely comes off cocky and arrogant at times...but he I feel he's done more than back it up at this point. The Vala line is every bit as good as Classified, and for as much shit that he gets, Bobby himself comes off as a honest and genuine person. He reminds me a lot of McFarlane in that sense. A maverick in the industry. Valaverse has always been helpful with customer service the few times I've needed it and when there's a QC issue, Bobby is pretty quick to let people know about it and what can be done and is being done to correct it. (I can't honestly say the same for Hasbro.) The best part...in a time where EVERYONE is raising their prices...Bobby hasn't..and he's been up front with his reasons why.

I've seen people on message boards everywhere swearing allegiance to Classified, and that's cool if it makes you happy...but...why? What do you owe to Hasbro (not you personally Firm or Kain, just the hardcore HasBROs in general.) I've never understood that mentality. It's okay to like whatever you want, and to like both even. The new Vala female wave is terrific from top to bottom, but that hasn't stopped me from really enjoying Serpentor, Tiger Force Duke and Recondo. Trigger looks great laying down cover next to Roadblock and the Garrison Calvary look imposing side by side with the Alley Viper elite.

Bobby Vala is not out to put G.I.Joe or Hasbro out of business, that's a fool's quest. Hasbro has fifty plus years of brand recognition and way more money than Valaverse could ever compete with. All Bobby wants is a seat at the table. Options are good...and competition breeds excellence. In the end...all of us collectors of tiny military men and women win.

I've got nothing against Vala himself, I just have no interest in a line that isn't titled GI Joe. I don't care if there ended up being a character named Wreck o'Ships, who has a parrot, a blue shirt, and a dinky garbage white hat, if he ain't named Shipwreck, he ain't Shipwreck.

That's like telling me the cereals in the stores that aren't named Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Fruit Loops, Rice Krispies, etc, all taste the same. Couldn't care less. If they aren't named Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Fruit Loops, Rice Krispies, etc, I'm not interested. Brand names exist for a reason.

Personally I just don't like Vala. This isn't the spot to go into why but there's an entire thread dedicated to it at HISS Tank. Didn't actually mean to not like Vala. It's just that the more shit he talked and craziness he engaged in turned me totally off. That's one of the reasons I don't buy his line.

I totally disagree with you on the "Everybit as good as Classified" front. I bought 2 VV figures and had a lot of trouble out of them. I ended up giving them away. I also think the line is bland.
