"
Marcotte believes the Star Wars film may represent the watershed moment when the toy industry finally realizes they are out of step with consumers’ desires. “It’s up to the public now, to make it happen,” he said. “It’s all about the carrot and stick of economics. If people buy products featuring strong, heroic female characters, it will happen.”

I hope that's true about more female figures then, because even as a kid the best Toy Biz marvel figures were the female ones even if Toy Biz that early on couldn't figure out how to make them right. The first Storm figure for example with the V cut legs. Those early Marvel figures though, the female figures were in extremely high demand. Rogue, Jubilee, Phoenix, anybody that appeared in the cartoon or the comics needed a figure because kids were gobbling them up left and right.

I really don't get where this "boys don't play with girl figures" bull ever started. It's never been true. I'm pretty sure Hasbro knows that too at most levels. So I really wonder where that disconnect is coming from. Retailers? Rights holders?

Hasbro might be learning slowly, but if you look at their Transformers side, the lines they have the full rights on(non-movie) female characters are becoming more abundant. Arcee, Chromia, Windblade, and a full on 6 bot combiner. They've repeatedly made Black Arachnia too. They've introduced a new fembot body type with Strongarm. Transformers Prime Arcee was never ignored. GI Joe it's much the same with nearly every woman from GI Joe having gotten a figure. Even characters in the movie that had maybe 2 lines, and barely any screen time at all got a figure.

So why is it over on Star Wars, and with AOU, that it's become an issue? Even AOU, call that an, erm, accident. Rey over in star wars makes no sense for them not to cover and in high abundance. This is the same company that while they had free choice on Star Wars figures, they made sure to cover every outfit Leia herself wore in the movies. Made a figure of Mara Jade. Covered every man or woman and the outfit they wore in the films or comics or toons that they could.

So why did episode 7 get screwed over like that on the toy front? This is the same company that recognized Jabba Slaying "Slave" Leia was highly problematic and didn't want to make the figure at first, and then recently has stated they will not make that figure again. The undertone being that it was only made for "completionists" sake.

I'm more waiting for Gold Ultron, personally. Honestly, I wasn't too impressed with Gamora's figure when it was first revealed, so I'm kinda "eh" on it.

Rey's not Black Widow. She's got quite a few toys.

These are the Rey toys you are looking for (Updated 1/23/16) | Wonko's Geekery

Rey merchandising issues were blown massively out of proportion. Hasbro didn't flood the market with her because they were pushing the same Finn bait and switch the rest of SW7 marketing was. And the Rey stuff coming out now isn't reactionary to the outcry, the planning cycle is too long. They just held back on her push until the movie'd been seen.

Awesome displays, wish we could get a Fantomex in this line. My Marvel figure selection has since dwindled a bit since I got rid of my ML's :P

Good point. I haven't checked recently on the releases.
But yeah definitely good point, it takes minimum usually 6 months from prototype to market, and that's with expediting it to an over-accelerated degree. Transformers I think they said that goes to about a year from initial concept to final mass market figure, but they also have engineering and drop tests for that engineering to heavily consider. Action figures usually don't have as much of a difficult time in that regard because they don't involve as many pieces or as much engineering to take into account.

To be fair, her character looked kinda bland before I saw the movie. Now, she's probably one of my favorite characters from the movie.

Yet her Walmart black series version is extremely hard to find.

My shipment from BBTS is "Out for Delivery" today. They'll be there when I get home. I'm anxious to see how well these characters look, but from what I've seen thus far I don't see any reason I'll be disappointed.

Jay West 01-27-2016 11:44 AM

Any suggestions for a Kingpin. I think the old Toybiz one is a little too cartoony. I'd even be open for a more Netflix type Kingpin, but Im not sure what that would look like. Maybe a MIB figure with new legs to make a taller figure? Any ideas? I'd love the Vort cast, but would have to pay for construction and paint. That would be super expensive.

Psycho Pirate 01-27-2016 11:50 AM

The painting requirements are light since he casts the torso and arms in white, the legs in purple, the shoes in black and the head and arms in flesh. I was on the committee that brainstormed that kit, so I literally cannot offer anything better.

I've only seen it once and the paint was iffy but I pulled the trigger anyways. The case pack I think is part of what people are complaining about.

Also had a moment of weakness at TRU this morning... They had the onslaught BAF wave and wow cap wolf and taskmaster looked great. I almost justified it for the onslaught BAF as I feel like that's more in scale with our 3.75" toys.... But I passed for now. I said a long time ago that if hasbro keeps repacking cap they should do a cap wolf. I hope someone shrinks that head so I can use it. Ill wait for the magneto type head if I get that onslaught BAF.

Yeah, I plan on getting Taskmaster and Cap Wolf. Whilst it my collecton of it is quite limited(partially due to money, partially to do with bias), I do like to collect the Legends that look good to me in some way. I was probably the only one on the internet excited about that Cap when he was revealed, though...Probably because it's basically a Legends version of that wonderful 2013 MU Cap figure. I like it when they do that, as it just adds to the proof that modern Legends would be non-existant if it weren't for MU. Just something to stick to the hardcore 6 inch collectors.

Also, is that an early Kaine? I haven't seen him on EBay anywhere...
