What is this?

Maybe a re-issue of this guy? Hadn't heard of any new ones yet.

It's the obligatory two of three Iron Man/Captain America/Spider-Man that must show up in every wave, is what it is.

UrsaMagnus 02-08-2016 01:50 PM

If they keep making different armors for Iron Man, or repainting existing figures into new decos, truthfully I'm okay if a new IM shows up regularly. Just more fodder for my Armory. XP

But straight re-issues like this one...? *bleh* Though it will be nice for those that missed on the boxed set there.

Probably just a misunderstanding from the seller.

theArchivist 02-08-2016 01:56 PM

Amazon has that set for $10 get him and the other 2 for less...

While there is still some room for improvement, I'm really liking this Marvel 3 3/4" comeback. New 2 packs and better card art and articulation with the new waves.

The comeback is bitter-sweet however. I can't afford all of this amazing stuff that's coming my way!

^I'm also enjoying this mini resurgence. I can't wait to see how the bossfight studios H.A.C.K.s turn out.

There's certainly room for both scales, it's just that highly articulated 3.75" figures have a lower profit margin than 6" figures do these days. That, and now that Hasbro's figured out how to get 6" figures into packages that don't take up that much more space than some of the old 3.75" packages used to, they don't take up that much shelf space either (which was the biggest complaint from retailers about the 6" lines in the past).

It's money that's driving the 6" fad...more accurately the manufacturers and retailers desire for more of it. High-articulation 3.75" figures are pretty much on the way out and may likely never return...at least not at pricepoints that any non-collectors are willing to pay.

How do you know that 6" figures are more profitable? I know the cost of labor has went up in China (which is probably a big part of the cost) but I'm sure the plastic (which the 6" figures use way more of) has to cost something. I feel like the brand manager says that the price point is way more sensitive, but if you don't produce that many 3.75" figures you don't take advantage of economies of scale (buying, selling, and producing in bulk) and the cost per unit increases (or decreases the more you make). I've went to the stores many times and have seen empty MU pegs with the gray dot (which I've heard means that the store has ordered more of them). I still stick to my argument that it's way easier for a parent to pay $10-$13 for a 3.75" toy than it is to pay $20+ for a 6" toy.

Other manufacturers have pretty much stated it. Mythic Legions was intended as a 1:18 line. This was the reason it switched to 1:12

-Price/Value: This is absolute biggest part of the equation. When we got into pricing these figures out the numbers were not working out when it came to doing these at 4”. These are complex figures with a lot of parts and accessories, and the paint is very elaborate. With all of that factored in, the prices for 6” figures and the prices for 4” figures were very similar. What that means for customers is that you’d be paying basically the same price (give or take a dollar or two) for either scale. In the end we just didn’t feel like it was the right thing to do to overcharge for a 4” figure when we could give a fair price for a 6” figure.

And it may be easier for a parent to pay $10-$13 for a 3.75" toy than it is to pay $20+ for a 6" toy, but it's even easier for a parent to pay under $10 for a 5POA 3.75" toy which is why those are made for that demographic. Or better yet, to pay $10 and get 2 2.5" figures instead.

My ChinaBay Vance arrived today. His left ankle is janked up and there are some paint smudges on the white. I'm aware that these are factory rejects, but it's still disappointing. This is the first and likely last time I'll order something in this manner.

Regardless, here he is with an extra shield I've been holding just for him...

I was planning on buying the two-pack anyway, but this solidifies it.

Unfortunately I think this is more of a general quality issue and nothing to do with Chinabay - Ive seen this entire wave at my local stores and they all seem to have minor paint issues. My Spidey Noirs foot fell off right out of the package :(

I don't mind either actually as well as the different Spider-Man's. Plus this is IM's first armor too.

That's why Hasbro has started to move the plants away from China and into Vietnam and going into India soon because of China's labor costs going up.

Could really do with that set minus the IRONMAN. There is a custom figure in it for anyone who wants to get me that set from amazon for $10 and ship them to me. PM me if your interested

LordMudd 02-08-2016 05:23 PM

I think Ironman is really the only character you can get away with doing repaints on and it works.

Here is my Ultron army, just for grins and giggles, and only because I could make a cool backdrop for them.

Well there is light at the end of the tunnel. It's been the same way here. It's been a long time since I've bought any. It was really surprising to find them. Unfortunately each store only seems to have gotten one case of 8.

Yeah that's true. That's why I can do the price I have listed for all 8 with shipping. Otherwise their $14 each with shipping. All available except for Spidey Noir and Captain Marvel

They aren't rejects. These are SURPLUS firsts. Not seconds, not rejects, factory firsts. They would have never been approved for final apps (the GotG badge) as they have went through several inspections before then. This is the SAME quality figure you would have seen on card in store. Just how it is now. Lower everything- quality, articulation, paint control. Everything lowered except price.

As for Hasbro using different factories, I don't see it happening. I have read about talks of it, but think they will stick with what they have. The factories will most likely be staying in China. Just watched a news film on manufacturing in India versus China. The factory itself doesn't belong to Hasbro so it isn't theirs to move. Until a decent is built to compete, the Chinese factory will still get awarded the Hasbro contract I am pretty sure. Too many unknowns and we all know they have enough quality control issues as it is. Imagine the same factory that produces Chap Mei making Hasbros figures! The horror.

Did it again Kernal!

woth ToyFair (NYC) less than 100 hours away- what are some predictions, hopes, fears?
Who might we see? Any surprises you think could happen? What are you looking forward to?

Ah. Like I said, this was my first experience doing this so I was unclear exactly what the deal is with figures of this nature.

As for what I expect to see at ToyFair from Hasbro in this scale, I think we'll see the paint master versions of 2016 Wave 3 (Quasar, et al) but not much else beyond that.

I'm sure there will be a giant whack of 6-inch stuff though. Naturally. *sigh*

Here here! The more new/repaints of iron man the better :)

Oscarv 02-09-2016 06:40 AM

Thelongestday, I had the exact same problem with my spidey noir from China. Similar thing with the recent mega loose torso on sandman. He is like that no mater if he is out of the pack or loose from China.
