^ That makes too much sense why would Hasbro do that?
I checked 4 targets in my area but none of them had the new winter soldier wave so no Black Widow for me yet. The pics on ebay look amazing, can't wait to get her. |
I've been messaging someone who works at BBTS, they said the Spidey 2 wave could ship as soon as today (weather permitting), but they think the Cap wave 2 could be held up a while. I'm a little nervous because they wouldn't be clear on whether or not they'd be able to fill all of the pre-orders.

If you look at their recent track record, they don't like packaging re-released figs with a BAF piece. Terrax wave Thor, Hit Monkey wave Archangel and Wolverine. The problem is the case distribution. Everyone and their dog knows it Should have been 2x Cap, 2x WS, 2x BW, 1x A.I.M. Soldier and 1x Hydra Agent. |
In some kind of freak occurrence, I woke up for work this morning at 6:30 am, took a look at Amazon, and scored Widow for $12.74 with free Prime shipping. Received the Amazon order confirmation email and everything, so it is legit. Nice start to my Friday. =) For some reason, she's been popping up on Amazon randomly at that price, then disappearing, then coming back up for $75, etc, so it really is a crap shoot that makes no sense at all.

...wait. What? |
I wonder if they'll do a fan-vote thing where we get to pick the figures we want to see
|
I'd like to see that happen as well, maybe just to see the number of voters, but seriously Hasbro could do that every 6 months with this line if they were willing to remake the very popular figures, 'limbo' figures and future figures created purely on fan votes. Army builders, whole teams, women of Marvel etc., if you need themes...

You are absolutely right. But from a business standpoint I want to sell all the figures if I am Hasbro. That would have made it a lock and that's the proper way to use BAF. Don't put it in with the figure that is short packed and you know will sell. Put a key piece in with something you fear might not sell. As a collector I would be much happier having to buy a common figure that I might even get at a discount to make a BAF than I would buying the one per case golden unicorn. I don't even want a Black Widow, just the part. I'm sure I'm not alone in that and that drives the price up. Hasbro keeps saying they dont' make figures for the seconardy market and yet they create these situations. Also it's simple math. You need one of each part to make a baf so why not have enough to go around? In the past it's been largely and even number of parts and that keeps people happiest. Just looking at these numbers would something like this make sense? Head: 1,000 Right Arm: 2,000 Left Arm: 2,000 Left Leg: 1,000 Right Leg: 1,500 Torso: 500 This is just an idea of what the case pack from wave 1 & 2 creates. Someone would have to give the okay knowing that you couldn't make very many completed figures, which is the whole point of paying extra money for figures that offer a larger BAF. My guess is that the torso uses more plastic so it costs like 40% more than the other parts so some bean counter just said "make less and put it with the one per case figure to cut costs". Unless there is a revision case with movie Cap, Marvel Now Cap, Black Widow, and Winter Soldier then I'd say that's what happened. |
Iceman
I agree with you. I'm just saying that no matter what they do half the people collecting will be upset. I'm also in the same boat as you (I really don't collect movie figures) and I just want the Mandroid Torso. I don't even want the Mandroid, but I want to sell them to pay for the figures in the wave that I wanted to keep. So right now I have at least 2 of every part except the torso. Also, I think you numbers break down are off. shouldn't head be 2k, left leg be 2k and right leg 3k and torso 1k? |

Maybe. I just threw that together as in like a minute. Let's see, between the two waves you get 1 Torso, 2 heads, 3 of each arm, 2 of the WS leg, and 3 of the other leg. So I guess there would be twice as many heads as torsos, the same amount of the one leg, and then 3 times as much of everything else. So I guess the arm number would be a little high there. That's assume both cases were produced in equal numbers. You could get one Mandroid and all but the torso for a second plus two arms and a leg for a third. I know it's impossible to make everyone happy. I just feel like if the people making these choices were collectors or if they had actual collectors on the staff it would be easy to avoid creating unneeded problems like this. I just hate that every time I see an interview with someone on the Hasbro team or heard their panels that they really don't know what they are selling half the time. Someone asks them about Northstar or Foom, things THEY showed us, and they answer is "I wasn't even aware of that figure" or "I don't know he it's actually getting made". Then the marketing they send out is so often wrong, like calling Cloak and Dagger a 2-pack. I know they have a lot of different lines they handle but would it be so hard to have someone who is the "brand expert" for big names like Star Wars or Marvel or whatever? Just find out who on the team is already into that line and then have them as your go-to for knowing if stuff will work or keeping track of the common questions that will come up at your brand presentations. Maybe just have an intern post an answer to questions that you didn't know at places like SDCC or Toy Fair. Must not be cost effective. |
You know , I may not be the biggest fan of "Toy GURU" over at Hasbro for the Mattycollector stuff, but I understand he has to try and make everyone happy, Fans AND Hasbro. I may not like the answers he gives but I at least get the sense he knows what he is talking about and at least we get some form of answers from him. I would not mind if they set up a spokesperson for Marvel (Legends in particular) and Star Wars and maybe even Transformers to be the public face for those lines.

Got home from a long day and had this waiting for me in a busted box. Guess the Gorillas from USPS just can't help themselves. Luckily the items inside were not damaged. Got them from Dorkside. 99 bucks for all 4, free shipping. Not bad. Probably overpaid a bit for the Electro (but got a deal on the rest), but now I have completed the entire boxed set of the AMS2 Series. I really do not plan to do that for the Cap wave though.

Any army builders have a spare Mandroid left arm (piece from Skull/Hydra Agent) they'd be willing to sell off? Let me know! Thanks!

Since I finally got a Thunderbolts set, I can officially add Crossbones to my Hydra "family"...so here's a new family portrait or two.
|
Well thanks to scalpers I had to buy a whole set of the spiderman line. I think I may return the ones I don't want to Walmart or Target. I know is not right but I just don't want the figures and is the ones no one wants. I may change my mind and keep them, Ill see.
