Let me speak for myself personally. Damn near every collectible i currently own, they majority have been purchased by BBTS,dorkside, walmart, and sprinkle a little target in there.

I even just asked my wife, and asked her "how many times do you recall me walking out with anything from our local TRU store?" Her response " close to never".

Shit... i had to have a friend from Ohio tell me they had the klaw/shuri legends 2 pack. Do you want it? And of course i said yes.

Like i said, online stores are fine for purchasing the latest stuff. Stuff that's not the latest? They suck because they rarely restock.

My experience as an adult collector with TRU has been very poor. As a child as i said in previous posts was great. Obvisously TRU could not replicate that same experience people had as children. This of course was due to the fact they had shity inventory, high prices, and employees working there that makes you want to strangle them.
Probably cause when you were a kid you werent just purchasing the latest items, right? You just got what was there.

BTW, prices are fine for me. They are the only place that sells NECA stuff for around 20 bucks with free shipping online. Everyone else sells NECA stuff at 25 at least with shipping costs that can be killer.

Probably has to do with the fact that i dont have a walmart near and they usually reduce stuff, right?

They do have sales but i guess they arent as many as Walmart.

The magic is gone people.. all you posting on here that are in your 20s to 40s trying to justify a why they shouldnt shut down and the toy world is screwed open your eyes. Popular toys will continue to be sold at certain stores
i never said anything about why they shouldn't shut down. They messed up and this what is happening. I mean, i would like them to stay on, sure, but that's going to happen, is it?

I am discussing the impact, because some people are trying to claim that the store closing means nothing.

If it means nothing to you, that's great, but not everyone is your same position.

And some oddball lines will HAVE TO be purchased online. That's just the way it will be.
And that sucks. I mean, as a collector isnt ordering online the worst because you cant see the paint job and it a die toss when it comes to the package quality?

No, not really.

there isnt gonna be a good 'close out sale' like some people are saying unless you collect kiddie toys. if they didnt have nothing when they were open, they will have less now with them closing down...dont waste your gas or time

LordMudd 03-15-2018 05:35 PM

My TRU has 8-10 Enchantress Executioner boxes, hoping they drop in price a little anyway.

Snowflakian 03-15-2018 05:47 PM

Any word on when the last day is?
Local ones seem to not be getting any restock trucks, but they haven't slashed prices yet either on remaining stock.

They do have a few things I wouldn't mind picking up if prices drop.

kylactus 03-15-2018 05:56 PM

The TRU by me must have known for a wile, they haven’t restocked since the Dr. strange wave.

Bluenope 03-15-2018 05:57 PM

Saw online that all stores will be closed down in May (will run out of money then).

Cyclopswc 03-15-2018 07:35 PM

Saw a lot of families with kids at TRU today, I guess everyone's trying to use up the giftcards they got for Christmas.

What's going to happen with TRU Rewards? I'm a few days away from my next one (cos they make you wait 15 days or whatever). And for some reason I got double points on my last purchase (based on the amount pending) so I could spend about $30 and get another.

sephiroth61787 03-15-2018 08:54 PM

I find it funny how people are saying TRU’s exclusives were hard to get. For me, they were among the easiest. Never missed one I was looking for, whether online or in-store. I’d never make a wasted trip to a store either because I always called ahead before I went. Never has a problem.

I’m extremely sad to see them go. They were a huge part of the industry that I think most consumers are only beginning to realize.

I was at one somewhere in Queens not too long ago that was shockingly very kmartesque...not sure what was going on there. Anyway, the ones I've frequented in NY are ok but, I've always been more impressed with the ones in Jersey actually.

Ash from Carolina 03-16-2018 07:44 AM

I'm going to miss what Toys-R-Us used to be. Back when GI Joe was still alive as a brand it seemed like I could find what I was looking for at Toys-R-Us. The only down side to a toy run there was maybe buying too much because the selection was so good.

But in recent years unless I was buying something for a kid my Toys-R-Us runs were nothing but a bust. I've only managed to snag two of their Marvel Legends exclusives. Always sold out on-line and never in stock at any store in driving distance. Ouch and how they jerked my chain with hey the X-Men two pack is in stock give us your money, okay it will be ready in a hour, two hours later oops we don't have it here is your money back. Transformers was always just the shelf warmers other places had clearanced out long ago.

Unless it was something for a niece or nephew I was always leaving their stores and web site empty handed. Kind of hard to support the company if they never had what you wanted.

I feel bad for the people working there and I hope they all find another job really soon. But as a collector I'm not going to miss the place because it was just exclusive after exclusive that I had no chance of buying from Toys-R-Us. Sad when the Walgreens exclusives were easier to find than the Toys-R-Us exclusives.

LordMudd 03-16-2018 09:53 AM

All of this whining about Legends exclusives is getting old. I have little or no use for Legends and the properly scaled exclusives, when there was one, were always plentiful at all of the stores in my area, not that I always wanted them. Some of them just did not make sense to me so I would ignore them.

It varied. My TRUs have had the Spidey/MJ pack collecting dust for 6 months now. On the other hand, I never once saw the Dark Phoenix/Cyclops two pack or the A-Force pack on the shelves. Also, I haven't seen the Hydra Soldier pack since they got their initial case. I'd love to get another set or two.

SpasticPlastic 03-16-2018 12:58 PM

Stopped in today and about a third of the shelves were empty. Apparently vendors have been coming in since yesterday morning removing any stock that TRU hadn't yet paid for. Sounds like NECA, Hasbro, Funko, McFarlane, and Diamond Select will be completely gone by Tuesday. So..no big clearance sales to hit.

Parademon1 03-16-2018 02:16 PM

I only collect Marvel legends comic related figs so all those MCU related exclusives were never items I bought. Seems like the vast majority of ML related figs this yr are movie related so it has been easier on my wallet as I only get the 2-3 figs in the line that are comic based. So far in 2018, I've just purchased the classic 1st app Punisher/Brown Wolvy/Black Widow from the vintage line, Sub Mariner/Black Bolt/Klaw/Shuri 2 pack & sold off Shuri as I don't care for a female version of BP. Now just hunting for Mysterio, classic TM & King Cobra along with Sasquatch, classic 90s DP, 90s Cable, Deathlok & Domino. Then classic Black Knight, Walgreens Mr F/Thing/Surfer/Super Skrull/Sabretooth/classic tiger stripe Wolvy/Magneto/Gladiator/Doc Ock/Madrox/Elektra/Wolvy on the bike. Never been a fan of Cloak/Dagger.

Hopefully SDCC will have some more comic based figs surprises in store.

I really don't understand how a company can just say "sorry, no severance pay for you!" It seems like that's something the government would FORCE them to allocate assets to, right?

Augustus_Cole 03-16-2018 03:56 PM

no one EVER talks about the old race track aisles.
That was one of my favorite things from back in the day.
All assembled up high for your viewing (and wanting) pleasure.

Exodus 03-16-2018 04:10 PM

So very sad to see them go like that....Glad I was able to take my son to visit a few times...and there goes those warranties that people paid for...Those obviously won't be honored...Going this Saturday to spend the remaining $40 I currently have...I'm sure I posted this before but just sad as it is...

Bearjew 03-16-2018 04:46 PM

NECA is all out of stock on the toysrus website

Kernel 03-16-2018 04:53 PM

Well this stinks... I’ve found some gems over the years at TRU like Necas Luca from planet of the apes, countless marvel and DC figures, and my kids always liked browsing there. I feel awful for all the employees and toy companies this will affect. Damn you Bain capital!

Charliegone 03-16-2018 05:13 PM

Everything Bain capital touches turns into shit. Burger King is garbage now, KB toys? gone. TRU going soon. Sad, my nephew will have nowhere to go to buy toys now. Goddamn shame.

Not when they've declared bankruptcy, unfortunately. Crazy since the higher-ups got THEIR bonuses, of course.
