I doubt we're getting a large sculpted stand as it will add too much to the production cost. My guess is possibly one more head for each of the three sets i.e. masked head for the modern.

Thanks for that, would be best if they did a final tally/list soon. At the end of all this, I hope Todd gets a better appreciation of what the fans/collectors want and MacFarlane Toys/Productions continue to improve.

I agree with "small" upgrades this should hit the 2.5-2.6M mark. Asthe campaign reaches its end, I agree doesn't look like sculpted stand would come, but I think its quite possible and think most would wait (the figures can come around holidays, the stand later in a seperate package) and in terms of pricing, think a well built sculpted stand is worth it for Todd if it meant less of him signing things (can only imagine the time and hand cramping he'd have to give). And it might tempt many more to go for that 3-pack. As I said before, that artist proof is for the customizers and/or hardcore collector. More different heads, the sword, the gauntlet, and 3 unique necro effects, and hand signed autograph are nice but not enough for me.

From Todd's Instagram. Doesn't really add anything to the discussion, but gives a better look at the proto

Nevermind, I guess I can't post images.

so i'm hearing a lot of back on forth on this- Did Todd actually say the torso twist sculpt is going away? or will the final figure have that terrible (imo) twisted torso?

My takeaway is the sculpt is set in stone; meaning that twisted torso is indeed baked into the sculpt. The articulation allows you to pose the figure however you want, but since the figure’s pose isn’t “neutral”, it may not look good any other way than how the sculpt forces it to be. Now, this is my interpretation. I could be totally wrong. However, it has kept me from getting in on this Kickstarter thus far.

Bo Ttef 05-03-2020 11:34 PM

Tabs Ludo- that's kind of what I'm thinking too.

By all means this kickstarter is very successful. It should end around 2.5 million. That said, i wonder what this kickstarter would be at if the figure was straight? Would it be marginally higher or vastly higher? If he had a cloth cape in the 3-pack i have no doubt many more would upgrade to a three pack. I get the impression Todd knows this but doesn't really care and is more than happy with where things are at.

I agree at the end of the day, was a success for Todd. We can only hope that he will take alot of the feedback and use it to improve the company for future releases. I don't see a problem McFarlane Toys improving and being in the conversation with other "great" companies (why not try and aim to be the HotToys of the 1/10 scale, if it falls short its still an improvement). I got only the Classic and I'm hoping the figure is straight as well, if it isn't will be one of the big disappointments. I say big only because I feel it isn't asking much (as well with re-releasing a form of that cross stand from 10th Anniversary version). I would have jumped in on a trilogy if it came with a similar stand instead of an autograph and eventually sell the Artist Proof.

Now, not disappointed with the much begged for soft goods wire cape most everyone is asking. It would have been nice but from my memory I think its one of the things Todd has had a problem with in the past along with articulation breaking up the sculpt. If he ever gets fully on board for soft goods and high level of articulation, I think it would be a game changer for the company (the sports toy line comes to mind). That being said, fingers crossed he does experiment and gives us a super articulated with soft goods cape option for a Commando Spawn, and if it takes 2 years to develop those things I'd wait and pay up gladly in 2022.

Now think he is out of new "upgrades" this should settle in the 2.45-2.55M range. For next year that horse come into play, with Viking and Medieval Spawn (Violator with Clown too). But again much like with the sports line thinking Medieval Spawn will have some issues with licensing.

dukefett 05-04-2020 09:42 AM

I'd read that the sculpt wasn't supposed to be turned like that, and it was just for the prototype.

No doubt about it; this was a massive success for Todd.

The torso is going to be a rubber piece similar to what 1000toys did with their Hellboy figure from what I've read and seen. Has that changed?

I heard that it's probably not going to be rubber, so who the fuck knows lol.

Wow, that's a bummer if they abandon that idea and just go back to a static torso piece.

I wish he'd just let Hot Toys and Mezco or some other 1/12 company get a shot at making a soft goods Spawn for the bigger and smaller scale. I think the results would be phenomenal.

Comedian 05-05-2020 03:42 PM

I was really digging that soft torso.

Medicom made a 12 inch Real Action Heroes Spawn figure with soft goods years ago.

Soft goods and Spawn just doesn't feel like the right path to me. First his suit isn't meant to be any kind of fabric and second the cape would be so loaded with wires in order to look even remotely accurate that it would be a mess to manipulate.

Tony_Bacala 05-05-2020 04:47 PM

I prefer non soft goods capes, unless it's a One:12 style figure with other soft goods. That being said, this cape looks awesome but it basically kills all poses other than standard. A 3rd party soft goods cape or some kitbashing from older figures will be needed for a deep dive shoot that uses the posing ability.

UPDATE 11 (May 5th):
A new update has been posted. The project has passed the 2.5 million dollar mark. McFarlane Toys have decided to give everyone who ordered a Classic Spawn, via any pledge level, a PAINTED Necro Sword. Up until now, this was only going to be available in the black and white Artist Proof version.

warmachine6 05-06-2020 09:59 AM

Well i finally got sold on this figure, after consdieration i went for a classic spawn , with a nice bonus of learning about the painted sword, i kinda wanted the modern spawn boots and gauntlet, but that version doesn't come with a masked head ! I'm not going to buy 2 of these figures. I also thought if its not to my liking i could sell on ebay. I also realsied i have spent more on mafex figures. I might see if i can get or perhaps make my own spawn cape in the future... We shall see.

dukefett 05-06-2020 10:56 AM

I've barely paid attention to all of the updates since there were so many, but basically I need to buy a 3 pack to get everything? I am really not interested in the unpainted artist proof one, but there's painted items locked behind that 3 pack purchase?

Godpocalypse 05-06-2020 11:16 AM

want the classic but with import fees and shipping to UK im looking at paying $70 for a $40 fig. imo just not worth it for me

you can go for a modern & classic to get everything more or less , i don't think there is anything unique about 3 pack apart from these 3 things

-EXCLUSIVE GOLD COLORED SIGNING PLAQUE
-EXCLUSIVE GOLD COLORED SIGNATURE
-CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY stating the autograph by Todd is his
Attachable NECRO ENERGY BURSTS for one hand
-TWO EXTRA and EXCLUSIVE ENERGY BLASTS (for a total of three in this set)

the last point you'd get 5 energy blasts if my maths is right

Zeorn 05-06-2020 12:14 PM

Yeah, I haven't been following every update but after watching how the cape is completely removable and everything, getting an artist proof version and painting it all black seems interesting. Throw it on a Batman and obviously it would look a bit off with the chain and skulls, but it would also look awesome.

Actually it might go perfect with the Batman who Laughs, for instance, the one McFarlane put out.

I think there is something important locked in the trilogy.

The Modern Spawn - regular version comes with the boot. Trilogy 3-pack version comes with the boot and arm gauntlet (spikey bigger arm thing). So to get it to look like the MK11 version - need to get the trilogy.

This is their list from the KS site, i removed all the duplicates from the Trilogy 3 Pack. So you get the Trilogy items plus all single items if you get the trilogy.

3-PACK TRILOGY SET (includes the Classic, Modern & Artist Proof figures). The bonuses are:

EXCLUSIVE GOLD COLORED SIGNING PLAQUE
EXCLUSIVE GOLD COLORED SIGNATURE
CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY stating the autograph by Todd is his
TWO EXTRA and EXCLUSIVE ENERGY BLASTS (for a total of three in this set)
EXCLUSIVE GAUNTLET on one forearm (Modern Spawn figure only)

CLASSIC SPAWN (single)

Attachable NECRO ENERGY BURSTS for one hand
FOIL-STAMPED comic book cover
EXTRA PAIR OF HANDS to hold guns
EXTRA PAIR OF FISTED HANDS
EXTRA HEAD of a painted Screaming Head
STEEL CHAINS for the waist
STEEL CHAINS for the neck
EXCLUSIVE ASSAULT WEAPON (this figure will now be the only one with this accessory)
EXCLUSIVE painted NECRO-SWORD

MODERN SPAWN (single)

Attachable NECRO ENERGY BURSTS for one hand
FOIL-STAMPED comic book cover
EXTRA PAIR OF HANDS to hold guns
EXTRA PAIR OF FISTED HANDS
EXTRA HEAD of a painted human Al Simmons head
STEEL CHAINS for the waist
STEEL CHAINS for the neck
EXCLUSIVE LAUNCHER-GUN WEAPON
SPIKED BOOT on one leg

ARTIST PROOF SPAWN (single)

Attachable NECRO ENERGY BURSTS for one hand
FOIL-STAMPED comic book cover
EXTRA PAIR OF HANDS to hold guns
EXTRA PAIR OF FISTED HANDS (one which can hold sword)
EXTRA HEAD of an unpainted Screaming Head
STEEL CHAINS for the waist
STEEL CHAINS for the neck
EXCLUSIVE NECRO-SWORD WEAPON

** ALL LEVELS THAT CONTAIN at least one autograph (by me) will also receive another weapon based on the Wooden Plank from the original 1994 toy edition.

Do you want to know what would make a really killer cape? If a third party company could make a detailed plastic cape styled after a crazy revoltech cape with revoltech inspired joints and articulation.

I feel like revoltech or something similar is the only thing that could properly emulate multiple dynamic posing options for Spawn’s cape without it being just a static piece. If a third party company is listening PLEASE make it happen.

Thoughts?

BTW the Kickstarter is totally going to hit $3 million tomorrow. I’m definitely pledging tomorrow.

Sniper1 05-06-2020 09:18 PM

After a long-standing personal back and forth I jumped on the bandwagon, I am a long time Spawn fan and the response he has been giving to the comments gave me the feeling he is a bit more appreciative of the fans these days.
On an unrelated note part of me thinks he is using this to help leverage Spawn's popularity to the stalled out movie. In any case, more Spawn stuff is a win in my book!
