Tough question(s), but I'll give it a shot. Best if I break it down a bit, though. And for the sake of brevity, I'm going to limit this to just North American series.

So my question is where would I start, assuming I only want can I say ? Comic based? Or cartoon based? Sorry I'm very new at Transformers. But I have NO interest in movie line like DotM or RotF, I'm interested in like the war for cybertron type or the classic one.
Any ideas? And if so are they still available? Or do I gotta trade in my arm.
The original Classics line from 2006 isn't available at retail anymore (except through the secondary market) and most figures from that line will cost you a pretty penny to acquire now. But they're basically the modernized version of the G1 characters. There are also several other lines that have come out since which are sort of like sequels to Classics. Those series are: Universe "2.0" (2008/9), Generations, Hunt For The Decepticons and Reveal The Shield. Both HFTD and RtS blend the movie and Classic aesthetics for some figures, but there are excellent representations of G1 characters too.

Also I'm a big fan of the dinobots, so was wondering if they have rereleased them? Or is it the old ones I must get, also as far as articulation goes? Is it full motion with the arms and legs for the old one? Or just basic move arm up and down type?
The Dinobots haven't been re-released in a long time. AFAIK, there were some E-Hobby releases a few years back, but nothing since. Articulation on the original toys was pretty limited (swivel shoulders only, though some had knee joints due to their transformation).

If you're a fan of the Dinobots, I highly recommend Masterpiece Grimlock. He was a 2010 TRU exclusive and a great toy. The issue now is he might be expensive to acquire since it's been a year and a half since his release. There's also a Japanese version that comes with different accessories but it would be equally expensive.

There have been other Dinobot-related toys over the years - some good, some bad. There were some from the Beast Wars era, some during RiD and Armada, the Energon Grimlock/Swoop set (not as good as it sounds), the Classics Grimlock, Classics/Universe minicons, PCC Grimstone, and the aforementioned MP. Our sister site TFW2005.com (link at the top of this page) has a wonderful Resource Database that can help you get the low-down on all things Dinobot related (including the actual character Dinobot).

Sorry again for being such a "noob" lol but yea any kind of insight would help me a lot, instead of me just standnin in the toy line dumbfounded, or searching online with no results.
Plz and thank you. ;)
My first recommendation would be to try to pick up the Generations/HFTD/RtS toys while some are still in stores and others are still relatively affordable. Then start working backwards to older Generations/Universe toys. Also be on the lookout this fall when Fall of Cybertron toys are released. Especially the new Bruticus combiner.

Yup that's what I've been doing! Working backwards and now forwards with the Prime line.

Also IronAvenger, here are two great sites for researching:

TFU.INFO- This site is an index of literally 95-98% or every TF ever made. Including the year they were put out, what repaints have been made from the toy, and what toys reuses the names.

TFWIKI.net- The official unofficial TF Wiki. I'd go so far as to suggest that it's required reading for every new fan. Also helps you figure out what characters have had new toys, and the like. Very informitive, and fun to read too! Just ignore the fan tangents (Like it's insistance that *all* characters named Sideways are the exact same dude), and it's a great way to get a grasp on the tf multiverse.

seems like everyone should go to walmart and get the $8 bumblebees clogging the pegs and no receipt return them for $30 store cred at target

I in no way condone this just saying it would serve them right

Haha unfortunately Target gives you the lowest selling price for that year...

My TRU has a Voyager Prime Megatron for $10. Only catch is his gun is missing. Good deal?

It's not a great deal, but not bad. His fusion cannon isn't exactly required for transformation, but it does help with his overall look in both modes.

Honestly, if you can spare an extra $10, see if you can find a complete one at Walmart for $20.

On a side note: why would anyone steal just the fusion cannon? Some customizer on a very strict budget?

The factory may have forgotten to put it in. I see that quite a bit, missing accessories because of a mixup at the factory.
The first time I came across Scrapheap, he was missing his right foot, and didn't realize that until I got him home.

I says it was a return. Could be they just forgot the part at home or someone wanted two cannons.

Crazy Jetty 05-25-2012 01:27 PM

More than likely then it's something underhanded, then.

Iceman 05-25-2012 02:42 PM

I do think that TRU policy doesn't give you a full refund if the item is not complete so they probably paid for it.
