Yep, I like Nick Spencer and his writing but that whole thing was a disaster. The very worst kind of stunt to get publicity and boost sales.

Honestly, the main problem with it was that they pretended it was totally legit, and not Red Skull changing reality or whatever. If they'd just kept quiet, maybe slightly hinting towards it being an in-universe change in reality/the past, it wouldn't have gone over quite as bad. But nooo, they had to go "yeah lol he's totally always been hydra bro lol, this is a permanent thing lol". That and the fact that it was for Steve's 75th Anniversary big return to the mantle of Captain America.

Ugh. That kind of crap right there is why I quit following Marvel comics.

Startaiger 12-04-2016 07:09 AM

About Cap A, don't you guys want to wait for the whole story b4 passing definitive judgement on it? We only have an interesting (IMO) setting point so far that echoes with real life (Cap wants to make Hydra great again, sounds familiar??). I'll wait until the resolution of the story line for my final judgement, but I say it's a very interesting reading so far.

Honestly, both Marvel and DC suck right now. DC is just trying to fix their damage, but in some cases, they are making it worse.

I've pretty much written off everything the two companies are doing today and am just buying omnibuses and collections of older stuff to read. I figure I've only read a fraction of what they have put out when I grew up, most of it from the 90s, there are decades of great stories from before then to read.

How does "a character created by two Jewish men entirely to fight Nazis becoming a Nazi" echo real life? What people are mad about is that, for Steve Rogers' big 75th anniversary return to the mantle of Cap, they were like "lol he's Hydra", and pretended that that change was "TOOOOOOTALLY LEGIT bro, he's always been a nazi haha", instead of keeping their mouths shut and maaaaybe hinting towards an in-universe change in reality/the past. That's one step beyond stupid storytelling into disrespecting the creators.

Damn man you've got more DPs than the AVN awards! Did warpath ever get a single release? I just realized with Cable, and shatterstar on the way he's going to be a must have for 90's x force. Is the single carded epic heroes red version DP the same as the warpath 2 pack version?

Yep, the two versions are identical.

Haha...thanks bro! No, unfortunately you can only find those Warpath figs in the 2 packs.

Red Skull changed reality with Kobik, so everything prior to that point is still valid, Cap never been "alway a nazi".
The story line is still going, it's a bit early to say if the whole thing will be "beyond stupid", I don't know, maybe the resolution will be, but so far I think it's an interesting read.

I agree with te joe fixit era. Very cool and awesome. Mcfarlane also did a good amount of the art with grey hulk days.

Oh don't get me started with Marvel's cheap cash in idea with their PC crap very lame if you ask me.

Has anyone seen any previews of the upcoming SheHulk ? Apparently she's going grey now.. bringing an old idea back from the dead.

No, I know in-universe that it's a change in reality, but when the comic first came out, Nick Spencer and Marvel were trying to frame it as a retcon, like it had always been that way, and that it would stay this way for the forseeable future.

And what do you mean, "it's a bit early"? This change happened 8 months ago!

Tell me that the whole concept of, for his big 75th anniversary, Steve Rogers (a character created by two Jewish men to fight Nazis, to be inherently anti-Nazi)'s return to the mantle of Captain America, making him turn out to be a member of Hydra (specifically a Hydra that was rebuilding itself in a way similar to the recent resurgence in white supremacist and Neo-Nazi groups) not just as an out of nowhere twist, but as (as they were claiming it was at the time) a full-on retcon of his history - that he'd always been Hydra, that he'd always secretly been a Nazi - isn't at least a monumentally stupid idea, if not horrendously disrespectful to his creators and legacy.

The only thing Marvel I still buy is 90s Dan Ketch Ghost Rider comics. I've really filled in a lot of holes in my collection but there's still got a ways to go before it's done.

It's a bit early because it's still going, we haven't seen the whole story yet. Until the resolution of the story line, neither you or I can tell if it's good or bad.

I understand turning Cap into the antithesis of what he stands for could be shocking, but that's an intersting story plot IMO, & seeing how he will overcome it (cause we all know he will, Marvel will never let Cap remains a facist) will reinforce the character stature as America's (& humanity at large) sentinel of liberty.
Now, what I think is interesting in the story is the questioning about how even the purest person could be "twisted" into something else by the authority above him (parental, political, religious, societal). Steve, in the story, remains the same person "at heart", but is misguided by Hydra to make him a facist, that specialy shows in issue #6, with the discussion between young Steve & Kraken.

Again, the problem is less "Cap is now Hydra", it's more that, for Cap's big 75th anniversary comeback, what was supposed to celebrate his legacy, it was revealed he was Hydra, and that (as Marvel and Nick Spencer were saying at the time) it was a legitimate retcon (despite that not ACTUALLY being the truth), that he'd always been Hydra. Now, I don't doubt that interesting stories can come out of it, but they didn't have to do it in a way as to spit on the legacy of Cap and on the graves of his creators. They should have framed the reveal in such a way as to hint that something was wrong, not just that this is different from how we know Cap, but that something was off, like a subtle hint that, in-universe, something was wrong with reality, instead of "hey, you know this character created by two Jewish men to be the anti-Nazi? well turns out he was a Nazi all along, his entire 75 years of fighting Nazis he secretly was one LOL". Like, I can not understate how much they tried to tell us that it was a straight-up legitimate, possibly permanent change.

I want Hasbro to start doing 6" two packs again. They revived the comic packs for the MU line recently but there are some duos I'd like to see done with Legends. My dream pack right now would be Blue Marvel and Anti-Man but Cloak and Dagger would be another good set.

Well, to be fair, NOBODY liked Superior Spider-Man when it first debuted, and it kinda worked out for the best as it breathed a lot of new life into the motivations and intentions of the characters, and had a (mostly) satisfying conclusion to boot.

I loathe the idea of Cap as a member of Hydra, but there has to be some sort of logical answer and eventual resolution to it. While Marvel has often disappointed as of late, we have to take the saying "all things to those who wait" with a grain of salt, and just kinda have to hope for the best.

Enter Jane Fixit. Oh and her comic is just called Hulk now. Bah!

Boy Blunder 12-04-2016 01:48 PM

They should've just left Steve in semi-retirement, to be honest. We had a fine Cap in Sam.

Right, they're doing 3, 4 and 5 packs but no 2 packs (other than the Iron Man/War Machine one).

Other two packs could be silver sable and solo, p-sylocke and revanche, longshot and dazzler, paladin and superia, jennifer kale and manthing, satana and hellstorm.
