Why are people saying she's so popular? Because dis-Arvel is pushing her hard right now? If she's so hot where are all the mrs.marvel tshirts, shotglasses, hoodies and such? She made one appearance on the awful avengers cartoon, and she was a blurb in the papers because she's Muslim. I don't hear kids talking about her, I dont see her having a movie any time soon. And as far as her shelf warming, or not that's all scalpels. Her e bay price is up right now so she'll sell out to cheato dust finger retail trolls who will pile her with the deadpool hoard in there basement and sling her on eBay.

Because she is, objectively, extremely popular. She was the first Marvel comic to more than double her print sales with digital sales (a position she seems to be maintaining based on comments from Sana Amanat and G Willow Wilson), her trades routinely hit number one in the NYT best sellers, she has been fast tracked into basically all the Marvel video games, she is going to be a main cast member of the next season of Avengers Assemble and there has been considerable speculation that she will get a movie or a Netflix show once Inhumans are introduced into the MCU.

A character who was created two years ago not having a movie yet is seen as an indictment of her popularity, LOL.

All of that is because of people on Ebay. Or something.

Print sales are in the toilet all around, so doubling her print sales with digital is no big deal. And again, just because she's being pushed hard doesn't make her popular! Lets do a quick poll : everyone, love her, hate her, don't care enough to follow her.

So her book being a best seller isn't an indication of her popularity because of reasons and her toy selling well isn't either, but an impromptu poll on a random toy message board is? Got it.

Ironically this goes back to my point about collector-focused message boards not always being a good indication of what's actually popular.

I think we have a pretty good cross section of fandom here, so yes I think a poll would be a decide to indicator. And yes "reasons" do exist. By the way, the figure hasn't even hit full retail distribution yet, so I'll call you in six months when she's packing pegs everywhere and stopping new shit from flowing in.

That's not a good indicator. Just going by Marvel Legends message boards, the MCU must be a huge bomb because I constantly see people complaining about how they hate movie figs. On the flip side I'll see people praising figures like Eel when I find him clogging shelves in every toy department I visit. A message board is always going to be anecdotal.

You just seem to dislike the character and are grasping at straws for reasons to somehow prove she's unpopular.

Yes, it is. Most titles increase their print sales by 10% with digital, she increased it by 100%, possibly the only title to do so to date.
No one applies that logic to Spider-man or Iron Man though do they? They get pushed because they are popular, but when the character is a Muslim girl all of a sudden she is getting pushed despite her being popular.

Such a poll would be meaningless, given the small sample sized and skewed demographics of an online, male dominated toy forum. We're talking niche within niche within niche. But I'm firmly in the I Love Her camp.

I'm in the "Love Her" camp, but I'm not sure you should be using the opinions of this thread, that has a relatively very small number of regular posters, and extrapolating it out to be representitive of the general consensus of the entire comic community; that's just bad science.

Yep. Even if the demographic on this very thread, let alone the entire site, was exactly representative of the demographics of the comic community as a whole, the poll would still be meaningless because the sample size is too damn small. Again, bad science.

And no I don't dislike her, she seems like a kit bash of mr.fantastic, and mystique, with the teenage girl vibe thrown in to appeal to a very specific audience. And the inhuman slant to cut the xmens throat for internal reasons at Disney... but no I don't know her well enough to dislike her... which is my point, you have some "marvel now" hardon so you think everyone loves the new fish, I'm just saying no one I know was like "fuck yeah we're gettin susy big fist!".

No, assuming everyone likes something because I like it would be absurd. Kinda like trying to argue that just because I'm not interested in a character that means nobody else is.

That's your right of course, no one is saying you should like her. I'm just saying that she is popular by any objective standard. Her books are some of Marvels best selling, her digital sales are unprecedented and the video game developers with Marvel licenses could hardly add her to their games fast enough, and Funko got a pop vinyl out for her pretty fast for a new character too. You don't hear people talking about her, fair enough, but I don't hear people talking about Spider-man either, all we can infer from that is that the people around us are largely indifferent to Kamala Khan and Spider-man.
I'd recommend anyone at least try reading the first few issues of her title though, you might like it, it's popular for a reason.
Well said. I really, really hate The Walking Dead for example, but I don't assume everyone else must and its popularity is faddish or imagined. People like different things, and that's normal and fine.

We're literally on opposite sides of a debate on weather a character is " one of marvels most popular". I don't think she's that big a deal, you on the other hand think she is... that's all, chill dude. We'll see in a couple years where she's at, and in a couple months how hard her figure is to find. I'm predicting, mostly due to hasbro's recent over saturation, she'll be easy to find.

She's currently in the champions book with "totally awesome" hulk and young cyclops. she doesn't even have a solo book now as well. to each is own you know. i know for a fact she has no compareable popularity to deadpool. no way in hell.....

It's not a debate though, they literally say she is one of their most popular characters and that is backed up by sales data. You're saying you aren't interested in her, I'm saying that's perfectly normal and fine, everyone has different tastes. We're not really on opposite sides of anything. You don't like a character I love, cool! That means we have different tastes, as people do. Nothing wrong with that.
