Trout...my take on his post is that those pics have nothing to do with MLK. I think all he was trying to do is proudly (IMO), remind us all about the upcoming holiday (MLK day tomorrow).

Marvelfangirl 01-15-2017 11:00 AM

I love MLK. He always inspired me. Gandhi inspired the Beatles, MLK inspired me. There's a 1/6 figure of him I know. Also I drew a drawing as a kid that ended up on a kid display museum in Florida. But yes, I might try to come up with something.

Marvelfangirl 01-15-2017 11:03 AM

In speaking of Marvel Legends I was wanting to wait for retail, I knew though I couldn't control the dates. So..I finally preordered the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Star Lord! :D Supposed to come in March 1st, which 5-10 day shipping would get it here right in the nick of time for the 17th my birthday :D

Well the Avengers have the Quinjet, the FF have the fantasicar, and the Xmen have the Blackbird so what better way for the Defenders to get around Hell's Kitchen :D

Not sure who celebrates Martin Luther King Jr day with a carnival or dancing in the streets...but I guess I catch your meaning if you intended to demonstrate puerile internet snark...Since you seem so curious, it was a church service followed by a function then lunch...and yes, I had fun.

The pictures weren't in memory of Dr King. I mentioned MLK because I planned to be part of activities commemorating the event and wanted to wish everyone else well on a day that's significant to American history.

...also, I'm glad you liked the pics ;)

@Raf

Thanks, Raf. That was indeed what I was doing. We should all be proud of our American heroes! :thumbs

@marvelfangirl

He has inspired me as well!

Now, more than maybe ever, we should find inspiration in those that are legendary for their courage, wisdom, and temperance in times of social unrest. MLK sits right at the top of that list.
I dunno how to capture that sense of reverence in toy photos, I think it would be a disservice for me to even try.
(I did pose Legends Sam L. Jackson's Nick Fury kicking a Hydra Agent in the face on my entertainment center, though)

I couldn't have said it any better, Mr finger! I know someone here that has a fig of Dr King...*hint* *hint* ...but alas, I do not.

On a serious note, and to follow up on what you've said, Dr King was a powerful personality who taught our nation (and the world) invaluable lessons about humanity, compassion, and justice. As a student of world history (learning much from figures like Mahatma Gandhi), Dr King was a fierce proponent of virtues that stretched far beyond those of race. Martin Luther King Jr was a hero and champion of the downtrodden and marginalized of every community, regardless of ethnicity or socioeconomic class. These are lessons that seem all but forgotten in these extremely tenuous times. More than ever, we need to take to heart the teachings of luminaries like MLK.

Brownfinger 01-15-2017 02:38 PM

Eloquently stated. The real tragedy of such esteemed figures is that people are largely unaware of their significance until they've left us. While people today may not need to crawl across metaphorical barbed wire like many who were reviled and misunderstood for attempting to turn the slow wheel of progress, there is clearly still work to do. So for the people today who tread those same paths, whatever their contribution, I'm going to do my best to honor them while they're still with us. And see the gleam of a legend's light reflected in all of them.

[Edit: Sorry if that was cheesy and for making this a heavy topic, but once I get going, man. I've said my piece, didn't mean to veer further off the subject of the thread. I have Legends Black Panther photos as well, but they're of him pawing at cans and chasing laser pointers and doing awesome kitty things. XD So maybe I'll wait a week or so before posting them.]

TheBlueMarvel 01-15-2017 02:52 PM

Those pics sound hilarious!

Also, you don't sound cheesy at all, man. Rather, you sound like a very thoughtful person. Seeing the writing on the wall many months ago (November's events came as no surprise to me), I joined a grassroots organization aimed at urban education reform back in July of 2016. I'll suggest to you what I suggest to my personal friends; find an organization that you believe in and become a member. Why honor the efforts of others when you can join them. We've got a great deal of work to do to turn back this malicious tide and the clock is ticking...our voices will be heard.

Just curious, where did you guys find BP? Was it in store or from an online retailer? Ebay? Just curious, because I have been searching high and low just in case, and my Walmarts tend to get the shaft when it comes to exclusives.

That said, if anyone finds him and has an extra...I'm interested. Let's talk...

The same seller that was selling Invisible Woman on ebay is who I got Panther from. I got him for $35. I missed out on Sue but he was selling her for the same price.

That's not too bad, since it saves you the stress of actually going to Walmart to hint for him.

I tried finding on on eBay myself, but I'm not dropping 99 dollars on it. More will become available in time I'm sure.

I REALLY loathe Walmart and TRU exclusives, especially since stores in my area are really spotty with getting them in. I've never seen certain exclusives in my local Walmarts (such as the 3.75 Black Series stuff and exclusive Troopers) and my local TRUs chose to completely ignore the Jubilee wave, never once getting a case in. Thankfully I was able to get most of that wave and get Jubilee together without breaking the bank through other means.

Speaking of Jubilee, I'm not sure if anyone has noticed, but it would seem there are China Bay KOs of her floating around...

Hello guys! It's storming out here and got a bit of a headache. I was thinking about doing a Marvel Legends body custom (sometimes you can't type right with a headache XD) with a head totally repainted (I posted a thread but it may not get traction) anyway do you guys think the Buffy heads would be good to combine for it if it's like a 100% total repaint? Also here's a pic of one of the head I was thinking about repainting. To go with a Marvel Legends body.

So glad those TRU exclusive mutant gals weren't 90's versions... I would be tempted for sure. Same for that X-Force Psylocke... got no excuse for 90's Jean Grey though... should have pulled the trigger on that one even at mark up at a toy show.

My local Walmarts have been pretty decent with their exclusives, but I am in full agreement with you over TRU. Like your stores, my TRUs skipped right over the entire Jubilee wave. Had to pay scalper-ish prices from far-flung comic shops just to get Storm and Magneto.

Yeah, I saw/passed on 90's Jean once at Walmart. I never saw her/that wave again at retail.

Its all dependent on what body you're using ( those would work good on the more slender bodies like black ant, white or green ironfist ) and who you're trying to make.

No worries, man. Like most other people, I'm teaching myself this as I go on. Everything I do is a combo of luck, intuition and experimentation. I've no formal picture taking training, and it shows, I think. I allow the feedback of others, or absence of such, to teach me what I do well and what I do poorly.

Unfortunately, my camera doesn't have a wide angle lens (at least I don't think so). This forces me to have to pan too far back to take a photo that captures everything. Above all other elements, posing is my forte (what I enjoy most about the "process") and those elements get lost the further you are from the subject matter. I realized this some time ago when VonPooten offered similar thoughtful critiques to those that you've shared, expressing that he felt cheated out of some of the action on display. That was when I started taking multiple cropped photos from various angles to hit "hot spots" within a display and highlight some of the meticulous work that goes into the creation of convincing poses.

I've many limitations; formalized technical skills, space, pro lights, picture editing software, and a "real" camera. However, I've always said I wasn't going to let not having those things stop me from snapping photos. And I've been able to pull off some successful things with my low-tech guerilla shoots. I've been regarded as professional in some overly gushing compliments, and while I appreciate the love, I also find it hilarious because I am most definitely NOT a pro...and I don't present myself as one. All of this is practice and unlike Alan Iverson, I love to practice things!...pardon the NBA reference.:D

With all of that in mind, I thank you for your feedback...truly...and I'm happy that you enjoy what I put together. Eventually, I'll own a non twenty dollar decade plus old camera and I will construct a proper space for photos. But even when that happens, there will be many imperfections in my pics...and quite honestly, I prefer it that way. Some pics I see on the internet (of anything, not just toys) are too perfect. The slight patina of "flaws" can sometimes provide character to an image. We live in a world rife with air-brushing and artifice, which in turn creates a falseness within some artistic expression IMO. But I'm sort of an "out of time - out of place" personality in many aspects as it pertains to modern life.

...sorry for the long response, but if you say something well thought out...I (usually) return the favor! ;)

I sure hope nothing will stop you, you clearly enjoying doing these scenes, & you have your own style, maybe I'll call it "raw" (compared, say, to what Advocate Pinoy & the A.C.B.A guys are doing).
I also hope you can get a better camera, but probably with 8 new Marvel Legends waves every years, Hasbro won't let you. We all have budget limitations!! :D
