Brie Larson is reportedly the frontrunner for Carol in the Cap. Marvel movie. I loved the hell out of her in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World so I am totally down with this.

When I first read that, I had in my head they were talking about Britt Robertson and I nearly nerdraged and not in a good way. I don't know anything about this Larson lady but I'm open to it. Would have preferred Blunt/Strahovski/Winnick but at least it's not Rousey....

snake5289 06-01-2016 06:13 PM

She one of the mainish characters in the 21 Jump Street movie but it wasn't a really standout character or anything.

Wasnt she also the main intrest for the dude on community? I like the idea of yvonne strahovsky. She makes me tingle. :) maybe emma from the wrestling world?

That was Alison Brie. On the show Jeff, Joel McHale's character, didn't really have a main romantic interest and he kept bouncing back and forth.

Brie Larson won an Oscar for what it's worth, I never got around to seeing Room.

Something is certainly better than nothing. The collector looks proper.

I would have liked Rosamund pike, but she may be a little long in the tooth... Just a tad. Not sure if rowdy Rhonda is a good actress, but she sure can kick some butt.

Snowflakian 06-01-2016 07:26 PM

She seems awfully young for a character that's either a Colonel or Captain in the Air Force.

I hope they are paying attention to that. Because her rank in the air force needs to correspond with her age, or it won't be believable at all.

En Sabah Nerd 06-01-2016 07:33 PM

So I might pick up the upcoming Legends Iceman figure to use in this scale as the Sinister-Iceman's giant form or maybe just a big ice-clone.

Because in a world where gamma radiation creates big green monsters instead of killing people with overexposure, the US government created a super soldier body enhancing formula during WWII, and a Norse god has visited multiple times to defend the planet a mid 20s person holding rank above lieutenant is what would be unbelievable. :p

Well in the comics Carol joined the air force as soon as she turned 18 and was so remarkably skilled that she became whatever type of special operative within the organization rather fast. So I could totally believe a woman in her mid to late 20s (depending on when her film debut actually is) who exists in a fictitious movie world already holding some rank.

No Whedon. God no. Let him stick to his own sandbox for the time being. I'd rather not read anymore of his tantrums, and his action dynamics are rather lacking anyway. He's great at TV action stuff, not so much movie stuff. Russo's blow him out of the water as do many other directors. I hate to say it, but he's really not that great at the big budget stuff. Even Serenity's infamous River Tam scene kind of pales in comparison to stuff we see in indie web series. He's good at setting a scene, but not so much the finer combat details. His brother though, pretty damn awesome even with a limited budget.

Russo's though. Yes please. Though marvel has them tied up for the next 5+ years.

Singer might need a rest. He could have director fatigue from too many too fast. Though I have to admit it was nice to see him up his action choreography game a bit more. Plus with a new family addition, he might want the time off anyway to rest and spend time with his kid. And he's said he wants to take a brief break for now on X-Men movies to do something else. Which would be great. Him experimenting on techniques in other movies only means if he comes back to do an X-men movie later, he'll have improved more too. So by all means let him test out some new techniques elsewhere before coming back! Nothing wrong with working out the kinks with your craft before you go full throttle on a massive franchise again. And the next movie needs to have that teamwork dynamic. The films have been kind of lacking in that. X1-3 it's understandable, not enough budget for it and tech wasn't there yet. Then First Class to Apocalypse, they weren't a team and haven't really trained together yet. Now they have. So the next movies, the team needs to work like clockwork. Like a team should.

I kind of want to see the director of "Stick it" handle an X-Men movie. Or at least the cinematographer from that movie. It's a gymnastics movie, but how it does the camera work and the director choices, those are towards the kind of flair an actual team working together needs to have. I'd say hire the action director from Red vs Blue outright, but that's not possible anymore. T_T

I liked both of whedon's avenger movies. I would not mind if singer took a permanent break lol... He should spend more time trying to make a good X movie instead of taking shots (even if they are deserved) at Bret ratner.

That iceman does look pretty cool.
Us 3.75" collectors are getting shafted with the reduced articulation and price increases.. The 6" Kitty pride comes with 2 baf pieces (jugs and onslaught) and Lockheed...
The 6" dead pool comes with an alternate head, 2 pistols, a knife, 2 swords, tommy gun, rifle, bazooka, boxing glove, and a friggin crunchy taco!

As long as whatever rank she has fits the age, that's fine, but even in a fictional world where super science and aliens and more happens, some things have to correlate still. Military rankings are one of those things. When you bend the realms of science to your story, you still have to keep some areas in balance. Otherwise you end up with a B-movie. Marvel's been very good so far in their handling of the military branches and the issues and positives it entails. I really hope this one's not going to be overkill to say "child prodigy" and break age records by over decades. Might lose too much of the audience in that and create too much negative press in their first solo woman led movie. A child prodigy is fine, but even in the military, there are limits to how much they can stretch it. Though it would be an interesting aspect of approach because of the the reactions it creates with other officers. (Plus yes, Steve Rogers once he went super soldier got the captain title as an Honorary thing for the USO, but then he took to action and it stuck. Something similar can happen here once she gets her powers. Especially now that Cap has gone AWOL. So all I'm asking for is some solid methodology to the choices. Steve Rogers rank of Captain in the MCU started out as a media mascot and propaganda morale boost during WWII. He made it his own and did something with it though to truly earn the title and prove himself.)

I'm not saying I didn't like Whedon's avengers films, I'm saying we've seen better since. He's had 2 comic book movies in the Marvel playhouse, I think it's time to let others try their hand. And after the Russos handle the next two avengers movies, I'm pretty confident in the aftermath of that people will be asking why didn't they direct the first 2 too.

Avengers 1 had no real issues. The team wasn't really a team yet and none of them had worked together or trained as a team(though black widow and Hawkeye they could have probably done more with). AOU though, seemed a bit too held back on the oomph. Especially after seeing how the teamwork went in Civil War.

When I see Black Widow, I see someone on Freelancer Agent Texas kind of levels of badass. That's what Ironman 2 foreshadowed. Whedon hasn't really delivered on that. Or really even come close to that kind of badass we were foreshadowed in IM2. Give me a director that can do that kind of action, and then we'll start seeing how wow Marvel movies can really go.

I love this years set! Will have to pay out the nose for it. Getting "tubes" ready to stuff all the "collected" in already. Will keep LockJaw out though and add to the growing Inhumans lineup. I bet dollars to donuts they announce a Crystal figure on the new female buck at the Hasbro reveal show.

I remember last year they announced a LockJaw. Can't remember who else was on the list. Somebody got pics from last year? *cough-AutobotGold-cough*

Agree.

Just got Living Laser from TRU, now I just need Gamora!

Boy Blunder 06-02-2016 10:45 AM

I still think that Katee Sackhoff would've been a perfect Carol. Not bashing on Brie at all - I have faith in Marvel's casting department. Just would've been my choice.

Was that Ice man pun intentional?

Also, crunchy tacos are a betrayal. Soft tacos keep about 90-95% of what you put into the taco as you eat it(depending on how sloppy you are. Hard shells dump that 90% no matter what you do, leaving you crying in a pile of taco stuff at the cruelty of life.

Point is, 6 inch Legends can keep their stupid crunchy tacos.

Love your Swordsman, Off Hag.... ( off hag- that's funny, just was shortening your name and after I typed it I laughed-----fourth wall)

Thanks for the link ABG! Fun looking back at stuff and things. Makes me smile. Surprised no one commented on the fact that even in the pic Lockjaw was static. Anyway, what poses (other than pissing with leg up) could you pose him in to be honest?

Also it sort of looked like Moon Boy is furry. Like Moss Man from MOTU, maybe it's a combination of my eyesight getting worse and the ether I've been huffing off an old sock all day.....God I love summer.

Someone did the math in a MCU Facebook group I'm in, she could realistically be at least a Captain by now.

Yeah, roughly late 20s early 30s. (27-33 depending on when entering the service, and she's a lifer with a family history of service, so we'll say the second she was 18.) It also depends on how fast she got through the Academy. So her officer status would start at 23 minimum typically if she entered the academy at 18. O-3 which is air force Captain, is +4 years minimum. So 23+4 = 27 at the earliest.

It's not quite the same as say the Army, Marines, or Navy where it's a few months of high endurance boot camp and off you go.

Plus it also depends on the story itself and how it's approached. Colonel she'd be too young for outright though.
