My big disappointment with the bait and switch was that once he was left as the only villain Guy Pearce's performance was flat and cartoonish. Plus the overall arc between his character and Iron Man was just the plot from The Incredibles. The ending also felt dumb when it happened, "oh Tony destroys all his suits except we all know this isn't the end of Iron Man so this just feels lame."

The last thing the MCU needs is to start treating its few female characters like disposable plot hooks. Paltrow is a great actress, let her actually do something in the MCU, like make her Rescue.

I liked IM3, it actually tried to take Starks character somewhere beyond "Obnoxious arsehole gets away with the bullshit he pulls because the writers wish they were him".

I feel a lot of people completely missed the point of the end of IM3. He wasn't saying he was done with his armors, he was just saying "I'm not gonna continue spending literally all of my time building armors; I'm gonna spend time focusing on my loved ones, and other people I care about". Because, remember, in the less than a year between Avengers and IM3 (Avengers takes place ~the same time it came out, IM3 takes place Christmas the same year) he built 35 separate suits of armor, which was caused by (and not helping with) his obvious PTSD. In the ~4.5 years since then (we can see Tony still using the Mk. 46 in the Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer, and most MCU movies after IM2 take place at roughly the same time they come out, occasionally give or take a few months), he's only built 4 more armors, the first of which (Mk. 43) is literally just a finished and bug-tested version of the last armor he built before he blew them all up, and the second of which (Mk. 44, A.K.A Hulkbuster) is arguably just an add-on to/extension of the first.

Yep, and sadly the writers of Civil War have largely missed/ignored it too, with the comments from Stark that Pepper and he are on a break because he couldn't stop working despite IM3 rightly framing that work as a symptom of trauma and unhealthy not something laudable.

I mean, I don't think Stark is supposed to be in an entirely healthy frame of mind in Civil War. Or Age of Ultron, for that matter. What he did at the end of IM3 definitely mattered and had an effect on his life, but not as much (or maybe not as long lasting?) as he wanted it to.

lordbest 01-24-2017 03:15 AM

Maybe, but that is something we really need to see on screen, not hinted at by a couple of lines of dialogue.

Marvelfangirl 01-24-2017 03:30 AM

I'm interested where they take Tony in Infinity War.

Captain Nash 01-24-2017 06:44 AM

[QUOTE=donmeca2020;693949]by the way don't take that the wrong way how i asked. i wasn't doubting you, just we've seen numerous lists of supposed waves coming out in the past from someone who knows or works for someone else.

you recall the wolverine wave list that was put out about a year or so ago. that never came to fruition.

/QUOTE]

No worries! I just wanted to be clear where I got the information (or possibly misinformation from.) Yeah, the Wolverine wave being a bust (so far) was definitely a bummer, if this list turns out to not be true I won't be as disappointed though.

We always gotta be careful for lists that could be true or not, especially when they don't have the code numbers. It's little missing information like that that could end up causing disappointment for those who take the list as being official or absolute.

I think they did OK laying out Tony's slip into paranoia sence seeing everyone dead in his vision. I think the only fail for me in the MCU (and its minor) is that tony and Steve don't feel like friends. They never show each other any respect, but they are suppose to be good friends? I just don't feel like they hang out between movies.

To be fair, that Marvel Comics in a nutshell. Have you ever read the original Fantastic Four or Spider-Man runs?

Invisible Women is written like a whimpy scared puppy who can't handle anything and always needs to have the trio of guys hide things from her as to no upset her.

Betty Brant in Spider-Man is no different. She got all shaken up and sick from Scorpion's attack on the Bugle while everyone else was fine. She is also repeately pathetic when Peter just blows her off or gets upset because of her relationship with Ned Leeds. I think the Annual was the only time she didn't break down into tears at all.

I think that is why Black Widow has always been my favorite Marvel female as she can actually stand up to most of the male characters.

Speaking of 60s Marvel, I finished reading my Doctor Strange Omnibus and it was good. This was the first time I've really read stand alone Strange stories since everything I read with him when growing up when him teamed up with other characters. He's actually quite badass and the series was far more stroy driven than I ever could have imainged (even moreso than Spider-Man). I'm quite impressed. I also love that he didn't start out with the Cloak of Levitation or his round amulet, although it was weird for him not to have them right away. My only complaint is that the final issue felt rushed as if they had to cram a multipart story into one issue. I mean, Strange is in the hospital at the end of 145, in 144 Dormammu said he was going to have to carefully plan a way to get revenge, but then 146 starts out with Dormmamu tired of waiting and tricks Strange into Eternity's dimension evn though that is not what Dormmamu was going to do. Plus, the end just has the girl found without any true struggle. WTF?

Nevertheless, this was an excellent book and now I've become a bigger Strange fan than I was before. Ditko's art continued to impress, especially whenever Eternity was on the page. There were some truly great use of lighting and shadows to be found here too. Good stuff all around. On to Amazing Volume 2!

Oh yeah, definitely. And I think the blame for that lies squarely on Joss Whedon. Not only did he fail to write the Avengers as friends during the few times they were together in comparison to all the movies where they're not, he also failed to write Captain America accurately, instead writing him based on what he'd assume a guy named Captain America wearing a spangly outfit would be like if he'd never heard of him beforehand.

I'm still holding out a little hope that the Wolverine list turns out to be the second X-wave everyone's talking about. Would love to get updated versions of Wolverine X-23, any Lady Deathstrike, and classic Mystique.

I agree, the effect of the vision is a good justification for his actions in AoU, its more in Civil War when he says he and Pepper are on a break because he "couldn't stop" that felt like they were ignoring his character arc in IM3. But his general behaviour in AoU kind of felt like Whedon had just ignored all his character development.

Sure and there is some historical context for that, but no reason to keep doing it in a modern context or import it into the MCU which has largely if not entirely avoided doing it so far.

I think scalping has really fallen back sence the recent pace of releases. Hell I just got a DP a couple weeks ago for 26.if your patient you can really find some deals now days, the whole abomination wave cost me 68$ and I paid 8each for the whole absorbing man wave and less for most of the antman wave. When the series 6 toybiz figure came out he was up to 200 ovenight with some of the variants going for stupid money, that never fell off until the recent release.

I'm happy with no Star Lord. Especially from the movie I didn't care for the movie at all. I just don't like Chris Pratt he isn't a Good actor at all he just plays himself in everything.
