The reason I ask is because the local Ollie's finally got some classified series in that wasn't just the movie wave and I grabbed a couple of $5 Zaranas as extras to customize and fool around with. I'm going back there this week to see if I can pick out a Dusty since I never got him back when he came out, and I'm going to look through the marvel legends to see if they have one that would work with one of the Zaranas I bought. I have one in mind that might be perfect, but I'll have to see it in hand to know for sure if the scale is right.

For the most part they are useable its just hasbro uses different sizes on various figures. Luckily joe legs can be heated and popped off. Marvel legends legs are sometimes hard plastic where the hips are and sometimes its not. Its weird.

Classified crotch overlays can also be removed. Very customization friendly.

Thanks for the input. I did end up making the trip to ollie's and determined that the scale was correct and bought the marvel figure I had in mind for the custom. Sadly, there were only 3 Dustys left (I swear there were at least 20 a few weeks ago) and all 3 left had terrible QC issues.

Anyway, the legs do fit loosely, but I'm in the process of modifying them and I think they will work just fine when I'm done. The issue was that the legends hip balls go out sideways, while classifieds go down at a diagonal angle. Deepening the socket diagonally with a drill bit has helped the fit.

Livestream next Tuesday (6/4). I am dreading a HasLab announcement.

Dr Kain 05-30-2024 10:16 PM

That's cool I guess. Except for Torch and the new Beachead, I'm pretty much done with GI Joe at this point. They've covered every must own character and then some for me.

I'll have to pass on whatever this year's Haslab is since I'm now unemployed.

flansered 05-31-2024 06:10 AM

I hope it is the Rattler, since I would probably feel okay skipping that. I worry that it would be a Thunder Machine with a bunch of unmade Dreadknocks, with Thrasher, Monkeywrench, Road Pig, and Zandar as the unlockables.

Also the rumored leaks I saw were:
Retro Carded Cobra Commander
Retro Carded Cobra Officer
Storm Shadow V2
Alpine
Iron Grenadier
Iron Grenadier BAT
Marauders Sgt Slaughter
Cobra Stinger w/ Driver
60th Anniversary Marine
60th Anniversary Halo Jumper

Dr Kain 05-31-2024 08:04 AM

I hope not for CC. I'm still trying to sell my extra Haslab one. Them releasing him in retail would make the Haslab one worthless.

flansered 05-31-2024 10:55 AM

The Haslab one will be slightly different, with the Mickey Mouse Cobra logo. I wouldn't be surprised if the standard release is a different shade of blue and comes with less or different accessories.

It may be different, but most people don't even seem to want the Haslab one.

flansered 06-03-2024 06:31 AM

I think it is because everyone knew that it would be getting a slightly altered retro carded release. If someone didn't back the Haslab it's better to wait it out than to pay a lot for it.

Dr Kain 06-03-2024 02:27 PM

New joes shown off.

Except for Alpine, I think the other three look terrible. Like the Iron Grenaider doesn't even remotely look close to being the original version. It looks more like that movie Destro figure that had come out where he wore a business suit. YUCK!! Storm Shadow looks way too bulky and I have no interest with the gold and red BAT.

Sean C 06-03-2024 05:21 PM

Storm Shadow looks like someone over thought a basic design. He's needs more junk around his waist! Head looks smallish compared to Alpine, too, maybe.

The Iron Grenadier reminds me of the Collectors Con versions for 25th/Modern. They rejected the sci-fi 80's look, except the head, and went European early 20th century.

I overwhelmingly agree. Lenny needs to reign it in. He's become an over-designer. The mark of a great designer is knowing when to stop.

I don't like that the retro carded Cobra Commander has a vac metal faceplate. Mainly because that should have been included on the Haslab version which was a premium product.

Personally, I think the Haslab version is superior. The black undershirt and the cuffs on his arms make him look more badass to me than the lighter blue and gloves. Vac metal's cool, but not enough to spend $25 on a new toy.

It would have been $25 regardless.

I love the Retro Cobra Commander. Looks fantastic.

I know it's $25, and that is too much for me for just a head.

Hey thats cheap compared to some places. ;)

SDCC exclusive was announced yesterday, and it was the Once a Man Cobra Commander. I think it looks cool, and I will probably try and order one when/if it pops up on Pulse after the con, but at the same time I am fine if I don't get it? So for me it is the perfect exclusive. But I guess based on this, the Nemesis Immortal, Hasbro will also be making a Golobulus and a Royal Guard sooner rather than later. Which I am kind of conflicted on cause I think that they are kind of lame in the terms of G.I. Joe but interested cause I think that they would make cool figures. At least a modern Golobulus could probably do more than just lay on the ground.

Hasbro pisses me the hell off. Without warning, these two arrived today:

And OF COURSE I end up with a defective Torch. I'm going to have to have Amaon ship me a replacement.

His right leg is so loose that he can barely stand up and it keeps sliding off the ball.

He is also quite annoying because this is the one time they should have given him the left/right wrist hinge instead of the up/down one because I can't get him to hold his blowtorch gun for shit.

Do his glasses come off?

Thankfully not.

They're sculpted on. I wish they had done the same on Ripper and Buzzer.

Damn, there goes my lemmy kilmister custom.

My Torch (along with Jinx and Gnawgahyde) arrived today, and my Torch had his left arm unattached at the shoulder peg. So I pushed it back in and it seems good and tight. But I do agree that the glasses being sculpted on is an improvement over the last two Dreadnoks.

About the wrist articulation, I think that one of Hasbro's biggest problems with this line (and I guess with the Marvel Legends too) is that they have a "one size fits all" mentality when it comes to articulation, and don't think to possibly revise joints when a character may need something different for either holding a weapon or how it would be used. So you end up with archer characters that can't hold their bows properly or characters with larger weapons that require two hands to hold that are unable to weld them correctly.

Yeah, because no matter what I try, I can not get Torch to hold his thrower properly. I have to have it hanging out on one hand.
