Hey team I can't believe no one is talking about the SDCC set now that official pics have been revealed. I think the set looks really great even if we are only getting two actual figures. Plus it looks like Collector will be fully articulated and Moon Boy looks to have wrists! Unfortunately that looks like the only joints on him, I do not see elbows, knees, torso, or waist.
Now onto my negative spin on things... I really think it looks bad for our line that something that was previewed last year at SDCC ended up the next years exclusive. I think that means they were not able to get Lockjaw to retail, so Snow might be onto something. If a store won't order it what else can they do with it? I'm afraid that it might mean we will only continue to get the comic packs and single carded, but more deluxe sets are probably out of the question right now. |
I DO want this set but only for the Collector though. But if the rumored 6" set is also true, I am definitely going for that first, but I'm hoping I can snag both once they go on the HTS site.

Hell yeah! I'm oddly hyped for Moon Boy. Now might be a good time to pick up some of those 3.75" scale Animal Planet stuff to get a Devil Dinosaur for Moon Boy.

Here a picture of one of the Animal Planet figures I mentioned that would work as a Devil Dinosaur for the upcoming Moonboy.

Exclusives don't preclude us from getting a character. Exclusives only mean we may not get that exact paint app version of the character, or a slightly retooled mold of the character. (See Red Skull exclusives, Cap, etc. from previously.) More deluxe sets are probably out of the question for right now because of the lack of retailer support, but later when buzz starts going good again and the action figure market hits another boom, we should have more leeway to see diverse figures. Right now, comic packs and single carded are what we're lucky to have. A lot of what I was saying before was from experience of watching what hasbro does from the collector standpoint as well as having worked retail for way too long. So I was talking about that from experience on both sides of the equation. Like I said though, the hype ball will probably get rolling again the closer we get to the two year team movie cycle, and Thor 3 should push more in that direction too if it's good. Market trends come in waves. Action Figures will have a boom again, it's only a matter of when. This is why diverse coverage in the comics to pull fans in is a good thing. Stuff like the new Ironman and more, generate new readers and create new collectors too that may want a figure of this new character. For example, up until this week, I haven't been able to find the Jane Foster Thor comic pack anywhere. Stores have had the comic packs, but not that one. So then I've had to wait until they sell through the others before a new re-stocking happens. Same issue I'm seeing at my local TRUs too. No Gamora wave because they haven't sold through on the Tritons and Uliks of the first wave. |

Having said that, the Marvel Universe’s continuity has been a mess since the 90’s. All this ‘Earth 616 / Earth 5150’ nonsense was created so that anyone could basically make up anything at all without it affecting any other continuity. It makes everything a kind of spin-off fan fiction, and enables writers like Bendis to pretty much do whatever they want. Sometimes the stories work, often they don’t. But regardless, since nothing really matters it’s harder to really care about any of the characters or stories. Kind of ironic that something Marvel used to relentlessly trash DC for - a completely incoherent and messy continuity - is now something they seem to have embraced as a solid concept. Not that it matters anymore. Ever since Disney bought Marvel the comics have been little more than promotional tools for the movies and character properties they own. This was already happening since the Toybiz days when toys were making more money than the comics, but now it seems to be centralised policy. |

I'm not saying every villain would get covered in an infinity war line, but the majority of heroes should with the amount of cameos those two films are said to entail.
Though they could in theory do the villains in the off months between dvd release and hype build for the next, but who knows. It's only, what, maybe 3 bad guys to slot into the line somewhere? That's really not much that'd cause an issue in case assortments. It really depends on how much a line like that is supported by retailers because of sales and what the market trend is at the time. If the market is open to it, we could see larger shelf space for Marvel at the time between MCU and comic based because of how strong the hype is on these back to back team movies. As for the new Ironman, read the comic. It's easy to dismiss and condemn it from surface level headlines, but in how the story is told is in whether or not it works. I for one support this idea, and from all I've read, it looks like fun and an interesting direction. It's another character to add to the growing roster of marvel heroes. Okay, and maybe I was immediately a fan after I saw her first "war machine" like armor that had some amazing influences from Patlabor and Appleseed. And yes, representation does matter. A young black girl inventor who is on par with Tony Stark? Yes please. There's tons of story potential in that with their interactions and banter. If the story is good, which so far it has been, and if it increases sales, which it has been, and it brings more fans in, which it has been, what's the problem? |

You should post this on the B/S/T tab to get more publicity. |

Ok guys hasbro made $831.2 MILLION in revenues in the first quarter of 2016... A 16% increase... Star Wars and Disney were the catalyst according to Forbes but marvel toys also get mentioned in this article:
Why Hasbro Should Thank Disney For Its Big Sales Jump - Fortune Make of that what you will... I've read some of the hasbro investor reports and they lump the marvel action figures into "boys toys" and do not disclose publicly (at least that I could find) the 6" and/or 3.75" sales/revenues and or profits. Also $70 for a collector figure and a bunch of statues... Ouch! But I'll still probably get one lol... I would rather pay hasbro than a reseller. |
70 bucks? For that set? Thats 20 bucks worth AT BEST!
|
I want a Collector but not necessarily that one, I prefer comic accurate, and I want Lockjaw. I don't need Moonboy without Devil Dinosaur, and the artifacts would be fun.
CCC. |
don't know how prevalent the new releases are..as i don't follow too closely now....but today i saw every new figure EXCEPT for Gamora. Some of them looked pretty good.
|
All I need are the artifacts and casted copies would be just as good imho..
Anyone else remember that time when everyone complained the exclusive was just a slightly larger helicarrier with figures. |
