ROM: Spaceknight of Galador

This is a figure I've been working on in my spare time all this last year. I thought I'd go ahead and show pics of the parts that are in primer now. Obviously it is Joe scale (tallish) and will come with removable jetpack and neutralizer weapon.

I have most of the other parts almost finished, but they still need some wet sanding and polish before they are ready to primer. Look for finished pics in the next few weeks.

Sweet work Alyosha!!...I was a die hard ROM fan back in the day.

Will be watching this one :)

big hank 12-08-2008 11:32 AM

ROM rules! Love the idea, it brings me back!

Flint 12-08-2008 12:00 PM

Ally, you never cease to amaze me.

AdrienVeidt 12-10-2008 07:22 PM

There ain't a font big enough to convey how mush I WANT this fig.

morgana08 12-10-2008 07:52 PM

Oh! Very nice. Rom the original Spaceknight brings back memories.

plowking 12-19-2008 02:54 PM

Any updates Alyosha?

Alyosha 12-20-2008 12:00 PM

Not just yet, but forthcoming. I've been working on some new molds for the store and a couple of straight customs I want to finish before the Holiday.

Optimus Scourge 12-23-2008 05:54 PM

I look forward to watching this, great idea!

scarecrow 12-23-2008 06:31 PM

I'm excited for this as well. Rom is so cool.

Tranzor Z 01-11-2009 12:32 PM

If you ever make copies of this I want one (or two)

Oh, he'll be making copies, plenty of them. It's how he pays dem billz, yo!

CardiacArrest 02-05-2009 08:31 AM

WOW! Nice job! Is it 3 3\4 scaled?

Enik 03-11-2009 07:52 PM

Please add me to the omg-I-SO-need-this-piece list... very nice job - can't wait to see the completed work of art!

Alyosha 03-12-2009 12:05 AM

He's almost done. I just bought the styrene sheets I need to fabricate the neutralizer, and am planning to finalize the sculpt this week. The backpack still needs a lot of work though...stupid thing.

Alyosha 03-17-2009 02:16 AM

Here's a quick pic of the scratchbuilt Neutralizer that I'm making for him. When this is finished, I'll just need to tidy the jetpack, and tweak the sculpt a bit. Look for finished results in about 14 days.

Nice work! Can't wait to see the finished product

Alyosha 04-02-2009 09:53 AM

Here are a couple of snaps with some added accs, and the jetpack finally pegged. Still need to finish that sculpt, and finish sand and primer the remaining limbs. The blast effects are completely removable for display without them if you like.

This is really looking good Alyosha :)

You're a master at what you do man.

scarecrow 04-02-2009 04:01 PM

So cool man. It's awesome to see your plan coming to fruition!

Enik 04-03-2009 01:31 PM

The Mad Thinker would be proud :D

Are you planning on putting shoulderpads with hoses leading to the backpack?

Alyosha 04-03-2009 05:52 PM

Yes, the shoulderpads are already on it, just not in the pics. The hoses I was going to leave off since they were only on the toy, but they would be easy to add if you liked. I did consider having one chromed completely, and then adding monofilament light piping to the eyes, chest, and weapons. That would necessitate a line to the weapon for sure.

Love your idea of chrome with monofilament lighting... that would be awesome!
fwiw the short hoses from the shoulder pads to the jetpack showed up in the comics but they're easy to miss

Whichever way you go with this piece, I love your work
Please put me down for one (or two if you do a regular version and a version with lights :D )

tennessee smith 04-05-2009 07:32 PM

That looks awesome... I can't wait to see the finished version. Post pics of his feet if you have them and put me down for one if you make more!!!
