Marvel Universe 4" Japanese Figures (ONLY) Compatibility Thread

2 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
So this is a tough one if you don't come from Japan or aren't intimately familiar with the lines as I have learned. I have found that the figures have many scales even within the same lines much in the way Marvel has Legends and Universe/Infinite. As a result the names sometimes get interchanged and if you paid a good bit for an out of scale figure you will get pissed off quickly (like I did). So here is a starting point to this thread from my own research, buying and screw ups and I am hoping you can help me out by adding your own information to this thread. I love the figures (and they are very highly articulated!!!) and I think many of you will too but if you have an idea of what lines work and don't PLEASE add them so we can all enjoy.

Here is my first foray - SIC Ultimate Soul Kamen Rider and SIC Ultimiate Soul Garo Knight

Here is the list from what I have found.
It is tough because these figures are all over the place in scale.

First rule: Only buy the figures labeled: "SIC Ultimate Soul" and "Kiwami Tamashii". The other lines (such as Kiwami Damashii) are all 6-7 inch range and fit in with the Marvel Legends stuff.

As for the figures available:
1) Here is the SIC Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_...ative_Chogokin

2) What you want is the S.I.C. Kiwami Tamashii (Ultimate Soul) section (Smaller & more affordable versions of existing S.I.C. figures) here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_...timate_Soul.29

I have highlighted the Figures themselves to show what is figure vs. vehicle. They are all a little over 4" each so they fit with modern figures and the extra height isn't bad at all as they are closer to MU Colossus or the Iron Man 2 figures in height.
Volume Name Date Released
1 Kamen Rider Hibiki January 2009
2 Kamen Rider Ryuki July 2009
3 Kamen Rider Knight September 2009
4 Kamen Rider Zanki September 2009
5 Kamen Rider Todoroki September 2009
6 Kamen Rider Faiz November 2009
7 Auto Vajin December 2009 <-this is Transforming Motorcycle to Action Figure (more of a Transformer then anything) that is about an inch taller (closer to 5.5"-6")
8 Kamen Rider Faiz (Axel Form) December 2009
9 Kamen Rider Faiz (Blaster Form) December 2009
10 Kamen Rider Blade February 2010
11 Kamen Rider Wild Chalice May 2010
12 Kamen Rider Den-O (Sword Form)June 2010
13 Momotaros Imagin July 2010
14 Kamen Rider Blade (King Form) September 2010
15 Kamen Rider Garren November 2010
16 Kamen Rider Blade (Jack Form) February 2011
17 Kamen Rider Agito (Ground Form) April 2011
18 Machine Tornador <- this is a Motorcycle for the figures to ride July 2011
19 Kamen Rider Agito (Trinity Form) August 2011
20 Kamen Rider Kaixa November 2011
21 Wolf Orphnoch December 2011
22 Side Basshar <- A Motorcycle with Side Car that becomes a Mech February 2012
23 Horse Orphnoch <- Coolest figure IMHO April 2012
24 Kamen Rider Kuuga (Mighty Form) July 2012
25 Kamen Rider Decade November 2012
26 Kamen Rider Kuuga (Rising Ultimate) December 2012
27 TryChaser 2000 < - Motorcycle February 2013

Then you have the exclusives:
28 Kamen Rider Hibiki (Clear Purple Version)
29 Kamen Rider Hibiki Kurenai (Red Version - kind of looks like Daredevil in armor)
30 Momotaros Imagin (Pre-Contract Version) <- Really cool looking figure BTW)
31 Kamen Rider Nega Den-O Jusco Shop exclusive
32 DenLiner DX Set <- Three figure set with Playset - Figures are very cool and unique January 2011
33 Kamen Rider Agito Flame Form & Storm Form Effect Set <-Two figure set December 2011
34 Horse Orphnoch (Gallop Mode) <-Half Horse/Half Figure, all Cool - September 2012
35 Kamen Rider Kuuga 3 Form set (Dragon, Pegasus, Titan) <-Three figure set - May 2013
36 Gouram - <-Transforming Bug to Motorcycle - August 2013
37 Kamen Rider Kuuga Rising Mighty & Beat Chaser 2000 Set <-Figure plus Motorcycle

All of these fit in with the scale.
Additionally there are Ultimate Soul Garo Knight figures which are nothing short of spectacular, they include:
1 Garo Ultimate Soul Dark Knight Kiba (Completed)
2 SIC Ultimate Garo Gold Knight
3 Garo Ultimate Soul White Night Knight Dan
4 SIC Ultimate Silver Knight Garo
5 Kiwami Tamashii Golden Knight Winged Garo Exclusive (It has Wings like Archangel but Golden Metallic)
6) SIC Kawamii Tamashii Madou Horse Gouten (a Mech Horse for Garo Knight and comes with a few giant swords for the Knight)

So all of this was research I had to do and I made a few mis-steps in the past because the ones not on list I procured (about 4 of them) are all 7 inch figures which I don't collect and are wasted :(. I have never seen any of the shows they are referenced on so I couldn't tell you a good guy from a bad guy or any of the backstory. I just love the scale.

You can buy these on Amazon, Ebay and Google Shops among otherplaces. I would look around bc on one I see a figure for $15 and on another the same for $70. So prices are all over the place and you have to research that. Also, Google any of the names above and you can see what the figures look like, Youtube videos, etc.

Lastly I have added a picture of the S.I.C. Ultimate Soul Kamen Rider Decade (Completed) (the Red Bug looking guy) and the SIC Ultimate Souk Horse Orphnoch figure with a few other Marvel/Hasbro figures for scale comparison.

So I had a lot of hit and miss before I was able to make this list. If anyone here knows some other in-scale Japanese figures and can add to it please do.

Nice list boombatty, been checking some of them out, I like them.

RevolMini works well in this scale too:

Good call, I have the Revolution Mini figs as well. Will have to put a list together.

Wow what line are the figures in the second pic from? Ive seen them in a much bigger scale before but I could never find them. How much are they?

domu 09-07-2015 05:50 PM

They're the Garo figures from Bandai's Kiwami Tamashii line, as mentioned in boombatty's first post. I think I paid ~$20-30 each.

deathofthelines 09-07-2015 05:51 PM

Wow great pics everyone

On another note I'm looking for a figure something super demonic looking you kind of fig that makes ghost rider look like a bitch in this scale. I can't seem to find anything but maybe you guys know of one I don't.

Foreddyn 09-07-2015 08:17 PM

Motion Revive Series and Microman/Microlady come to mind. I did use some Gashapon figs as well, even keychain ones. I looked at Takumi Damashii when they were available but they were kind of short.

boombatty 09-08-2015 02:37 PM

I had forgot about the Marvel Disc Wars figures. I have those as well. They are fun figures. The last pic, the Kamen Rider candy toys, what height are they? Are they closer to 4"+ like the Garo/Kamen Rider figures or they closer to 3.75" like older GI Joes? I might have to go looking for those next.

domu 09-08-2015 03:47 PM

The Kamen Rider candy toy figures are usually around 4"+. Nowhere near as nice as the Kiwami Tamashii stuff, but they're relatively cheap and a good value in my eyes.

When I have time (several weeks away, unfortunately), I'll try to dig out all of my candy toy and Motion Revive figures for some comparison pics. I also have some Hot Toy snap kits, all of the newer Microman/Microlady/MicroAction figures, Beta/ Epsilon Midgets, and various other Japanese figures in this size.

I use the Kamen Rider Motion Revive figures personally, but when they stopped making those, I wanted to round out my collection still so I tried the candy toys. The W ones are closer to 5'' but the Decade ones were like barely an eighth inch taller. So the decade ones fit in perfectly to Motion Revive and to MU/MI.

Never checked anything after Decade though. I like the slimmer smaller size of the Motion Revives though because they create a kind of more agile appearance and more average person inside the suit appearance than some of the more bulked up heroes in the Marvel or DC worlds. They match up nicely to the MU/MI Ironman figures too.

Like Kamen Rider The First has a Motion Revive figure too, and the guy in the suit is an average under 6 foot school teacher. So the MRS of The First and Next(01, 02, V3) look perfect in an MCU display.

Some old pics for comparisons.

Might take some more updated recent ones later.

boombatty 09-08-2015 05:36 PM

So the Motion Revive figures look pretty cool (I looked them up). But the Candy Toy figures were tougher to figure out. It looks like some have articulation and some do not. How do you tell typically (other then to take a best guess in some of the pics on EBAY for example)?

I usually use the ebay pics to tell or the packaging or try to check out reviews of them if I can.

domu 09-08-2015 06:03 PM

You can look for ones that have "action" in the series name on the box ("action" in katakana is アクション ).For example, Drive has "Driving Action," Wizard has "Style Action" and Gaim has "Action Arms." (Most of the series before these were done in Motion Revive, or before that, the Rider Action series. Never found decent ones for W or OOO. Can't recall the name for the articulated Fourze series; I think it's "Module Change" or "Module On".) Not a guarantee, but helpful in searches.

A word of caution, most candy toys won't be articulated. However, the soft vinyl figures are really easy to cut up and bash onto Material Force figures.

I've discovered a lot of compatible figures on this blog: nekonekopa
Look under the 10cm tag on the right to narrow your search.
The MRS tag will bring up a lot of Motion Revive reviews.

that's awesome, I really want to get into this series. How's his height in relation to the others from dick wars? he looks perfect wolverine height for MU scale, but if, say hulk is his height he might be a tad short.

deathofthelines 09-08-2015 07:40 PM

Lol when u see it^^^^^

K Dubious 09-08-2015 07:57 PM

This just came in mail. SFO Guile so I assume the rest if the SFO Street Fighters would work as well.

Zangief is undersized. He's about the same height as everyone else. I have him and Teiran and would love to get others but it's ridiculous how even the staples like Ryu shot up to $100+ everywhere almost immediately.

I only have Wolverine from the *ahem* disk wars. Maybe someone else can answer this?

Oh god...I can't stop laughing.

It's amazing how one misplaced letter can change the entire context of a sentence.

I'm sure it was an unintentional error..but...it definitely made my night.

kylactus 09-08-2015 09:59 PM

Nice typo there.

Also, with the exception of Wolverine all of the Disk Wars figures are shorter than the average MU. From what I observed in different pictures around the internet the Hulk seems to be the same size as the one from the Avengers movie line. I'm really interested in the Disk Wars figures and I hope I'll get some soon. If you guys want to get them cheap, try Taobao. Taobao is really shady, but if you think you can survive the experience you should buy them there. The prices for the Disk Wars figures on Taobao are extremely low compared to the prices of them on Amazon and eBay. From what I recall, the cheapest I found the Cap DW figure on Amazon/eBay was $30 but on Taobao I saw it for $3.

Taobao is really shady but that's a story for later. Try to be smart when buying on Taobao. The sellers there take advantage of the fact that the people who are interested in buying are foreign people who won't fully understand the descriptions of the item. There was a Loki figure for sale and in the picture they had 7 Loki's and in the title it looked like he was selling all of them so that you can use them as an illusion army when really, if you bought it you would only get one. There are also Taobao translators where you put the URL of the item you want to buy in one of these translator websites and it supposedly makes it easier for you to purchase and it also allows you to use Paypal and other more well known credit card companies' credit cards. I've never tried them out.

So, ya. In the end I don't really recommend buying stuff from Taobao in general unless you can survive the ride. If you get conned on there it's not like eBay where you have a hope of getting reimbursed. Imagine trying to get a refund on eBay from Comcast Support except the person on the other end is speaking a foreign language.

Whoah. I just realized how off topic I've gone xD

Can you give me a little more detail on what you are looking for? For example, the Final Fantasy figures (you can look up some on Amazon) might work but they the in-scale figs are static for the most part so no articulation.

Can it be oversized? Does Articulation matter, etc.

From the Kamen Riders figs I would check out, Momotaros Imagin (who apparently is a Demon in the series):
In Red:
Momotaros Imagin - Red

In White:
Momotoaros Imagin - White

Otherwise the Garo knights that Domu mentioned and pictured above are pretty Demonic looking.

Garo would be a good choice. That entire series is about destroying "horrors" which are essentially demons. That show is pretty bad ass. Definitely adult though. The knight armors and weapons are made out of "soul metal" which has some pretty decent story potential to that kind of crossover.
