DC Collectibles DC Animated Universe Figures Appreciation Thread

I couldn't see a thread for this so thought I would make one. What are peoples thoughts on the DCAU Figures by DC Collectibles

Overall I'm really loving them, the breakage problems from the original figures have been resolved and most figures come with loads of accessories (including the normally useless figure stands!)

I'm glad we are getting figures who never made it into the Kenner line like Gordon, Bullock, Firefly & Ventriloquist.

So whats everyone else's thought about this line? Any favorite/least favorite figures? Who else should be added to the line?

En Sabah Nerd 03-15-2017 07:17 PM

Overall I'm glad DCC took a chance and made these figures because I love having animated versions of Joker, Two-Face, and Batman. My favorite is probably the Phantasm because the character only exists in the DCAU and Mask of the Phantasm remains one of my favorite Batman movies above the majority of the live action attempts. The figure I most want to see done despite the line having come to a crawl is the Gray Ghost.

RolandofGilead 03-15-2017 07:27 PM

Still disappointed that they couldn't make the Phantasm's mask removable like the original

jwyss234 03-15-2017 08:18 PM

For the longest time it seemed as if the only DC thread allowed on Toyark was the DCUC thread so I'm happy to see DCAU and DC Icons getting their own place here. I'd say my favorite figure is the B:TAS version of Batman. For villains, Bane and Riddler definitely. With the price hike last year, I've been holding off on getting a lot of the figures but my next purchases will be the Batman Beyond set and Joker from TNBA.

I was disappointed with the upcoming villains pack, mainly due to the price, but I definitely want the figures from that set. But after that, I'd say we're only missing Two-Face and Scarecrow from the B:TAS main roster of villains. I'm also looking forward to the Superman: TAS figures.

They look amazing and I want the Batman Beyond and Mask of the Phantasm sets a ton but I'm weary to get them because I really can't afford to get hooked into the line.

DCC was planning on including an Andrea head but (and I agree) it looked silly on the masculine body and making the body more feminine would be unfaithful to the design. Unmasked Phantasm would have to have been a completely different figure.

JAG2045 03-16-2017 04:13 PM

Glad people like the thread :)

I've liked the figure choices so far (waiting for my Batman Beyond 3 pack at the moment!) except Ras Al Ghul, I really wish they had chosen the classic suit & tie look instead of the one we got - I'm hoping we get a two pack of "Normal Ras" and Ubu somewhere down the line

Of unmade figures from the Kenner line I hope we got Lock Up, Clock King & Red Claw

I was tempted to get the expressions pack as I thought it would just be a pack of spare heads but it seems expensive for some heads, capes & accessories plus another basic Batman figure (of which I own two already, normal and MOTP 2 pack version plus TNBA one) however I met get the Joker one as I really dont like the face sculpt we got (it looks like Mr Sardonicus!)

Same here, I really want to get the BTAS style villains and Montoya but why not release them as singles! Same with Alfred from the Batcave set!

IMO they should have made an Andrea unmasked or normal Andrea (or Jet Pack Joker) as the second figure of the 2 pack rather than a repackage of Batman with a different head sculpt

Really looking forward to the Bad Guys set to finally have the dynamic duo complete (That would be Montoya and Bullock) Will also be nice to swap Bane out...

jwyss234 03-16-2017 06:28 PM

@JAG2045
I'm looking forward to the Joker expressions pack too. He's the kind of character that needs swappable heads expressing different emotions. As for the original, I don't think he's bad but he needs more black around the eyes.

The unconfirmed rumor is that DCC is doing away with single packs so it will be multipacks after Batgirl. Apparently the expensive stuff like the vehicles have done really well for them so they're looking to do bigger and better sets.

TheWaker43q 03-17-2017 11:13 AM

Are their any details on the Joker expressions pack. I saw the photos from Toy Fair on this site but not much else. I have Harley on the way, but was going to hold off on Joker if the expressions pack is coming out.

In one of the interviews from Toy Fair they said that Joker would have removable arms so that you could have his regular purple suit look or his gray trench coat and hat look. I would assume that like Batman, he'll come with more accessories. They showed an inner tube/duck floaty, a couple of guns, an expressions pack stand, and the different heads.

It worked just fine with the original.

Agreed, the Joker needs lots of insane expressions (think of his scene with Sal Valestra in Mask of the Phantasm)

Really? That's a pain if its true as the multipacks are really expensive compared to the singles - if it happens I might have to even quit the line :(

But that figure is inaccurate to the Phantasm's depiction in the film. Until the mask comes off the Phantasm has a male physique, once the mask is removed you can easily tell that the body also changes to match that of a woman. The Kenner one is accurate without the mask but the DCC one properly represents the Phantasm with identity unknown. Again for best aesthetic purposes DCC would have to make a separate figure to properly represent the Phantasm unmasked.

Heh, I was actually thinking about that scene and a few others from MOTP.

Like I said, it's a rumor that the single packs are no more. Only one site reported it. But I guess we'll know if it's true when SDCC comes and they only announce multipacks.

JAG2045 03-26-2017 02:13 PM

Has anyone picked up TNBA Harley Quinn? Is there any difference between her and the BTAS version beside the accessories?

Also what are peoples thoughts on the Batman expression pack? I was going to pick it up but it cost's more than I thought it would and it would mean getting yet ANOTHER Batman! (Which would be my fourth after BTAS/TNBA/MOTP 2 Pack)

I don't have either but I've been able to compare both at once in a store. There are subtle differences like the TNBA version has a larger head in proportion to its body and the body itself is more sharply cut. Overall though I think accessories are the key difference in picking which version you want as they are practically the same toy.

Word.

Honestly the only problem with the movie is the lack of explanation for change in physique. I think it can be assumed that the Phantasm could not be seen clearly by the people who encountered her, and assumed it was a male, thus that is what we see.

Inaccurate or not, I think the Kenner one had the right idea. The grey part would cover up the boobs.

Weapon X 03-26-2017 03:31 PM

I have some beefs with this line. Even for the BTAS style figures, they brought the TNBA aesthetic to a lot of the figures which I hate. I hate the angular, pointed style of that show. The Riddler figure looked great from the waist up, but his legs are absurd. they also did this with the Joker, and even changed his face.

I also hate the material they used. My Animated Batman's leg broke 5 minutes after taking him out of the package and I had to get a replacement.

On top of that, they keep releasing better versions of figures with more stuff, and it makes me feel like I wasted my money.

For these reasons, I have quit on this line after only owning 2 figures and the Batmobile.

Ah cool thanks, think I will just keep my BTAS Harley, the only accessory I could see TNBA Harley having are some spare hands and a kind of freaky extra head (an unmasked head from "Mad Love" would have been cool to see)

Got the Batman Beyond set today, great figures - the only downside is they didnt include a Terry McGuinness unmasked head

Don't forget the crappy inaccurate wings!

JAG2045 05-04-2017 12:53 PM

Picked up TNBA Joker & The Expressions pack today

TNBA is good, the face sculpt is much better than BTAS Joker (who really looks like Mr Sardonicus!) and the inclusion of Bud & Lou (The Hyenas) is great. He also comes with a handy 9mm gun

The expressions pack is good although its a shame we didn't get a cyborg HARDAC Batman head in the set. To be honest 4 of the heads are quite similar, I wish we could have gotten a "shadowed" look or something, the 3 capes are nice as is the stand and weapons (although the goggles& gas mask can be hard to fit on the heads). I'm really looking forward to the Joker expressions pack!

TheXtremisT 05-04-2017 02:22 PM

Hi guys, I am on the cusp of starting a massive collection of these BTAS figures. I have a few moc, which are soon to be opened, but just loved the fun of them and how they look. Problem is I'm late to the party.

So does anyone know where I can checklist the whole line? It'll be fun to track down a lot of them although my funds aren't going to like it lol.
