Glad to see Splinter there, the first reports I read of this didn't mention him. I'll probably just wait until the online orders open up.

webz 08-28-2019 08:06 AM

well, the whiners from the SDCC preorders finally caught their breath, so it makes sense Neca and Gamestop does this now. Prepare for the opened floodgate of "My Gamestop ___list_rant_here___" complaints. Anyone popping popcorn?

I'm confused as to what whiners you're complaining about. People who were bummed and vented that they couldn't get something that is clearly in demand but not enough available? Maybe I missed some drama during that preorder window and you're talking about something else.

I don't see the problem with people venting about the ridiculous sell out times for NECA SDCC products. This is a community forum where we all enjoy the same hobby and talking about it and supporting each other seems to be a good part of it.

I skipped the Shredder and Splinter pack this year because I wasn't sure I could get it. Of course the sell out times verify that lol. I might just get these, glad they're available.

It's one thing to be bummed you couldn't get something. It's another thing for those that scream and cry of conspiracies, NECA's New World Order plotting with scalpers, etc. It died down finally, so now an all new list of sobbing and fist shaking will happen with the clowns pissed at Gamestop for their evils, and various Infowars-worthy conspiracies as to why NECA isn't hand delivering these to everyone who wants them on a velvet pillow. The entitled mentality of toy collectors is getting ridiculously out of hand. I feel sorry for NECA. They've been kicking arse the last few years and most of the feedback they get is hate-filled social media rants and demands for things out of their control.

ludovicotek 08-28-2019 09:46 AM

Thanks for the heads up! What's the deposit on the pre-order? $5 per figure?

I skipped their exclusives this year so I guess I didn't see the vitriol you describe. Tho I do know the last few years there had been a lot of people missing out so the backlash could have grown.

Not sure they were ranting about conspiracies, all I saw was a poorly designed website with very slow response times(this is my point of view as a website developer and adding to what I saw in most comments for NECA). Add to that their dubious controls over bots and order placement.
No conspiracies, just a "so so" job in the sales department for their site. Unfortunately, the gamestop site is not that good either, international credit cards fail even if they have the option to use them, billing addresses get automatically forced to something else, sometimes paypal is not processed properly, orders get cancelled out of the blue, their indian C.S. does not help much as they never know what is happening, etc.

Trivial Psychic 08-28-2019 11:14 AM

For those of you that were lucky enough to get your set during the SDCC pre-sale, it's really easy to criticize the emotions that were running through many of us who felt burnt by how shoddy the pre-sale went. Constant website timeouts and crashes, the limited amount of stock and the false optics of NECA "aggressively hunting out scalpers, bots, and Ebay resellers" so they could give honest folks a second chance. Add to that how the second chance sale ended up being a dumpster fire of issues (delays, system crashes and a whopping 6 available at start!) Yeah...I'd say there was a pretty good reason for people to be pissed off. Many of us felt like NECA was ****ing around with us, and Randy's rather unapologetic, aloof, and at times apathetic demeanor on social really did little to calm those fires.

While many of us knew this was coming, I'm glad that with this...some of the asking prices on Ebay for the SDCC set have already spiked downwards as people are trying to unload them. I might still try to grab one of them as I love the packaging.

I'll definitely be pre-ordering these. Hopefully they'll be in the system to pre-order on my next trip to Gamestop.

Brokencar 08-28-2019 11:59 AM

I think its pretty awesome. I just got to order a set of the turtles from gamestop. I'm looking forward to getting splinter and the others also. Great job on neca for working this out.

Well you won't get any "My Gamestop..." complaints from me- because that store doesn't exist in England. I'm still waiting for a set of the 7" turtles which were eventually made available online for the us- so if history is to repeat itself then I guess I'll see Splinter and Shredder in about 3 years. Totally not whining here...

The website is fine 99% of the time. They aren't going to invest the money to overhaul their website when a) it will be expensive and b) all the product sells anyway.

Everyone wants a Ticketmaster "your item is reserved in your cart for 5 minutes" system. That would be really nice. Maybe it'll happen some day. Don't count on it. Companies that reserve your item also sell way larger volumes than NECA does through their online store.

Here's the deal: anyone complaining about NECA needs to stop. Simple as that. The vitriol should be directed towards Playmates and Nickelodeon exclusivelyfor not allowing full-scale massive distribution of these figures. NECA has fought for years to get us these figures and they have 100% knocked all of them out of the park. What they have released is a dream come true. A limited dream, but a dream. They've done the absolute best they can given their constraints. Name a company that has worked harder for the fans than NECA (hint: you can't).

Their is always a massive wave of vitriol hurled at them during convention sales but I'm fairly certain it represents only the very small vocal minority. We just got a Green Lantern predator for god's sake. What more do you people want?!

Y'all are lucky to have Randy. He's a true fan and he understand where we come from, what we want, and how to put in the long hours to get licensing access.

AMEN! I'm thrilled these are getting a mass release so quickly. I remember when NECA announced the movie turtles were coming to Gamestop and there were tons of pitchforks and torches waved about throughout the realms of social media. Personally, I think it's a godsend to actually have these available in any retail store. Gamestop always had a good relationship with NECA. I remember seeing the comics TMNT there, plus I had several Resident Evil figures from NECA I bought at Gamestop. Thankfully, the NECA toys today are far superior to the Resident Evil line. My Tyrant literally disintegrated after 4 years of minimal posing.

I agree with most of what you said, but you can’t ignore the fact that this year’s online sale had the broken checkout button issue which persisted all three days and really messed a lot of people up. And NECA never really addressed it any of the days after.

At the end of the day it really only affected you if you real wanted the Turtle set or the John Conner set, which turned out to be the vast majority of people.

And while it’s all a matter of opinion, I’d say Hasbro and Diamond Select Toys work just as hard to give “the fans” what they want. They’re just less vocal about it. Which is sometimes better than being too vocal. And while McFarlane still has a long way to go, in the past couple of years they’ve made leaps and bounds in their quality even going as far to finally load their figure out with gobs of articulation.l, so I’d say they are really putting in the work as of late for the collectors especially on the heels of their DC licensce.

And to answer your last question, if I had to ask one more thing from NECA, it would 100% be a Judge Dredd figure from Dredd 3D or Detective Mike Harrigan from Predator 2.

manic mailman 08-28-2019 03:19 PM

Only here to let Neca and Gamestop know. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

I got the sdcc set this year and will buy these again!
Just like last year I got the SDCC set and bought them again at gamestop and then just bought those movie turtles again! I HAVE 3 SETS! WHY?? I DONT KNOW! When they list them, I buy them.

dukefett 08-28-2019 04:31 PM

I truly think NECA underestimated the demand for the SDCC set. Last year at the time nobody thought they'd get them outside of the Con; but now we know, yet the set was still in massive demand. Last year I think NECA said they made 5k of the sets. I bet they made half that amount or something for SDCC.

They sold out so early like every single day and then the entire line disappeared. You could walk up and get anything else, that was basically what 99% of the people wanted.

A 7" Dredd figure by NECA (i'd also settle for McFarlane or DST but prefer NECA) would be awesome. It would also fit with the Darkhorse Vs Figures without the licensing issues presented by DC. Give me a Dredd vs Predator 2 Pack and i'll be all over it.

The best part is 2000 AD have responded to tweets asking NECA for a Dredd figure saying they'd be willing to talk.

https://twitter.com/NECA_TOYS/status/833676016782544897

That was however two and a half years ago so if something was happening it would have happened. At this point if NECA is not doing Dredd figures they've likely determined that the market for Dredd is too small or 2000 AD want too much. Evidence suggests 2000 AD is willing to come to the table.

Meta 08-28-2019 07:11 PM

Figured these would be out separately. Just want Shredder. Already have the four turtles. Wonder if they will do an April and/or Casey Jones?

If they have or can get the rights for likenesses I could definitely see Casey happening but I'm not sure how well April would do since they have to start in the 1/4 scale.

Wondering if there is a limit in the items they produce based on the license. Wouldn't it just be better to open up orders, grab as much as they can and then produce that amount of figures? Like super7 did with the Hey-ya prince Adam.

They don't underestimate anything. They know exactly how popular their figures are. They are LIMITED in how many they can produce and where they call sell them. Everyone acts like NECA is just bumbling around without a clue that people love TMNT and their TMNT figures.

Again, direct your comments towards Playmates and Nickelodeon. They are the ones holding NECA back.

Sure I can. Read my post again. NECA isn't going to invest in their website for 2-3 acute sale events a year when the products are guaranteed to sell out, regardless of who buys them. if you miss out you can also get it at retail, wait for a possible second sale (which has occured with their exclusives on many occasions) or get it on eBay/secondary. That's just how it is.

NECA would be more than happy to take everyone's money. They can only make so many sets and it doesn't meet the demand. Accept that fact and recognize you just might not get lucky.

Diamond Select has subpar articulation on almost everything. With the rise of figure displays and ACBA it's a no-brainer to add articlation. The paint on the The Real Ghostbusters figures was mediocre. Some of the Marvel Selects are good but the articulation still stinks. You are correct that Hasbro is actually doing a decent job of fan service but they are so opaque you would hardly know unless you follow their convention panels. Randy (and Brian from Super7) are front and center for folks like PixelDan to answer direct questions, provide as much news as possible, and show their love for their products. Hasbro, Playmates, Mattel, and Diamond don't really do that. Zach Oat kind of does that for Diamond, I guess, but to a lesser extent.

McFarlane isn't doing anything for fans. His toy empire crumbled and the license holders abandoned him or he simply let them expire. He did it his way and the hobby and collectors moved on in another direction and he failed to adapt. Now he's playing catch up but, frankly, I haven't seen anything especially noteworthy come out of them so far. Fortnite and GoT? Fortnite is old news and largely appeals to kids and teens. GoT is over. They are YEARS behind on those figures being relevant (not blaming them for that but releasing GoT figures as the show ends is bad timing). They have Mortal Kombat but those aren't especially noteworthy either. I was an old school McFarlane collector but they have really failed to pivot as things changed.

NECA's access to the license limits production numbers and where they can distribute them. Super7's arrangement with Mattel is totally different.

Where did you hear that they have to start in 1/4 scale? That doesn't sound correct at all. Unless you have a specific source to say otherwise then it's more likely that they have simply produced figures in 1/4 scale because it's a scale that they can get access to. No one else is producing figures in that size so they have no competition and it won't interfere with what Playmates is doing at 7" or smaller.

I've also assumed NECA does 1/4 scale figures to basically show off what they're capable of, like "see, look how great this is! Let us do this in 6-7" too."

Whovian2018 08-28-2019 09:42 PM

The existence of Splinter shows they do not need to start in 1/4 scale before making 1/12 or 1/10 scale figures.
