"Figures Wanted" Article - Battletoads

First one of 2020. I delve into figures I've love to see from the fantastic Battletoads games.

Toyark's "Figures Wanted" Spotlight - Battletoads

graphyt 01-01-2020 05:17 PM

Yes. After seeing Rash in Killer Instinct I've wanted some figures.

Super7 was my first thought too, but BossFight was another that came to mind. The Bucky O'hare really capture the bright cartoon look well, and they seem to really be good about providing accessories. And if their Bucky packaging was anything to go by, it should work well. They're doing some 6.5" Lucha wrestling figures soon, so with the move to bigger scale and articulation, they'd probably be able to do some justice

How about russian bootlegs made from fans to fans? They are like battle beasts and made of soft plastic.

Colossus Prime 01-02-2020 09:53 AM

It is so insane that Battletoads wasn't a bigger deal. When I was a kid, I was craving an animated series and toy line. It's also weird to realize how many Battletoad games there actually were.

These articles are great!

I hated Battletoads. LOL I could NEVER get past the first rocket bike level at the beginning of the game. I got soooooo mad at the game. Stuck with TMNT 2 Arcade on the NES.

Of all the odd hero characters of yesteryear, I enjoyed the Gex game most. 3DO was a great system just poorly handled by greedy thugs.

Brownfinger 01-02-2020 06:18 PM

Oh man, I remember those old rubbery toys of theirs, mine are probably still in the box with all of my old Ninja Turtles.

Would love to see Boss Fight Studio take a crack at these guys, interest will no doubt be elevated with a new game on the horizon.

As much as I have always dug the designs, I can't understand what anyone seriously liked about this game. The only version of the Toads I could tolerate was the crossover game with Double Dragon, but that was because I was more a DD fan than anything else.

That said...I wouldn't mind the Toads and the Evil Queen (yowza...) This is something I think the Four Horseman or NECA was born for, especially with NECA's love of re-releasing figures in pixelated game decos.

Gex was a pretty cool game. If I had to pick a game character from yesteryear that I need in some form, I'd definitely have to go with Strider Hiryu from the NES version of the game (I love those colors and that design of Falchion)...or Nights...the flying jester character from "Nights: Into Dreams" on the Sega Saturn. Such an underrated classic that is dying for one of these talented import companies like Bandai or Storm to take a crack at.

This is one I wouldn't get behind, I think I played the first game a few times back in the day but never really cared for it or the sequels.

Are they going to be available on any different sites. I checked megalopolis a few days ago and it was still about a sale that ended a month ago. I'm iffy if its just them but in if its going to other sites.

Don't buy Megalopolis, they're scam artists and there's a good chance you'll never get what you pay for.

Comedian 03-31-2021 08:08 PM

I’m still waiting to see if Megalopolis delivers on my madballs. I hope they do, but no freaking way do they get my money again. If EE or BBTS gets these I may bite.

That's awesome.

Also the toy company site has a retail list at the bottom. I'm in at this point.

These look amazing!

Trivial Psychic 04-07-2021 02:18 PM

As long as this project has any sort of association with those clowns from Megalopolis, I honestly wouldn't count on these ever seeing the light of day.

Atomsmasher 04-07-2021 04:13 PM

They have other retail partners including bigbad

BigBad puts things up for preorder all the time that never make it out, exhibit A; the Vikings vs Barbarian figures from that scam artist Geoff Beckett of Shocker Toys haha

Comedian 04-07-2021 05:26 PM

Shocker toys, I’m shocked he hasn’t been tarred and feathered.

I did hear back from megalopolis on my madballs set I pre-paid for. They said it’s still coming and expected in June. So.....I’m trying to be optimistic. I so want these lines to make it out.

Atomsmasher 04-07-2021 05:37 PM

Yes but that would be saying you don't trust premium dna to deliver and not about getting. It's important to note that mythic legions named megalopolis as there distributor too so not the only company who put faith in them. The viking set sounds cool but i missed that one. Which is apparently for the best.

This article says the guys behind PremiumDNA are the same guys behind Megalopolis, so yeah, no faith there haha

Yep. I was going to say that. I watched an interview with the 2 brothers that own Megaflopolis and I believe they said they started PremiumDNA. That is why I never bothered with any of these toylines.

It's not a question about Premium DNA having other retailers outside of Megalopolis, but rather the fact that the company was created and is run by (according to their LinkedIn page) the very same group of con artists that created Megalopolis.

This point (along with others) was brought up by Jay C, who did a very good breakdown of it all over at ToyNewsSI recently...and while I won't post the link to another website here, it can be easily found with a simple search of April's news stories.

True...the Four Horsemen did use Megalopolis as an exclusive distributor for orders placed directly to their StoreHorsemen store at one time, but they have since moved on and now handle those orders in house.

As for whether you can trust Premium DNA...that depends honestly on either how forgiving you are...or as to whether or not there are some serious changes from within the company to get rid of the very people who caused the Megalopolis debacle. The fact is though that these guys are skating on the thinnest of ice when it comes to the general good will and trust they have in the community. The practices they employed over the past year to paying customers and distributors (myself included) were nothing short of shady and outright deceptive. They might be able to turn it around, but that will take time and a tiger doesn't change it's stripes. Fool me once...shame on you. Fool me twice...shame on me.
