Super7 TOHO Ultimates - Godzilla and Biollante
|
"TOHO" Ultmates you say? Interesting. TOHO has more stuff than just Godzilla & friends.
Rose Biollante is nice, that's one we don’t see very often, but that Godzilla - you can get the exact same design from Tamashii for $95 on BBTS, probably cheaper elsewhere, this is $85. Hard to argue in favor of the Super7 one here - I personally would rather go with SHMA. It will be interesting if they are allowed to tackle designs Bandai has no interest in - like Emmerich's Zilla for example. Especially the cartoon version, that one could be cool. |
Eeeyyyyuuuuuhhhhhhhhh not at that price.
|
The price is expected since they've been talking about this for months in interviews about how they'd be $85. I think they look good, the rose form is welcome since I've got nothing for that version of Biollante.
I'm disappointed there's no atomic breath for Godzilla, that seems like an odd ommission for Ultimates. Also I hope Godzilla is painted and not just plastic, I'm iffy on whether Super7 will do that or not. |
Im in. Shm cost about this much so Im good with the price . Accessories always welcome but that hasnt always been the case with other lines.
I like what im seeing. Need a 1970s Godzilla. |
These look okay. I was hoping it would blow away SH Monsterarts, at least with with the accessories, but once again we don’t even get a breath effect. There’s a few accessories included, but for an “Ultimate” figure it’s not very ultimate. Also I was expecting these to be a lot larger based on Brian’s comments.
It’s a weird choice to go with Biollante as the first enemy. We already have an absolutely amazing Biollante that was just re-released by Monsterarts. Seems like it would have been wiser to release a less available figure like Destroyah. Also, Brian said they were going to start with the new Godzillas and work backwards. I assumed that meant starting with the MonsterVerse. How is a Godzilla movie from the 80’s starting with new Godzilla’s? What about 2000, GMK, and so on? Finally, these sculpts look a little soft. Monsterarts are sharper and more crisp. Maybe, at least, the Super 7 figures won’t fall apart every time you touch them the way SHMA do. |
Ultimates these days seems to mean "high priced" and not "the ultimate figure with tons of accessories".

The details and overall aesthetic look a little "soft" (thanks, SuperWeird, I struggled to find a descriptor).
The price is decent for 8 inch scale, and they do come with accessories; though the accessories are a mixed bag. How hard would it have been to have an articulated jaw instead of an alternate head for both Godzilla and Biollante? The closed fists for Godzilla are kinda cool and different, but I never looked at any of my SHMA or NECA Godzilla figures and thought "If only he had closed fists." I would rather have a breath weapon than closed fists. I am totally down with the Biollante vines wrapped around Godzilla's neck though. I am definitely to ordering Rose Biollante though. I hope everyone does and it shows Super7 and Toho there is a market for Godzilla's Rogues' Gallery. |
I own the SHMA Godzilla and I really dislike the articulation gaps, especially around the hips/upper thighs - with that new filler piece that really wasn't necessary. Plus, this is a larger/better scale and no doubt Super7 will release further interesting takes in this series. When is the last time we saw Biollante's rose form as an 'action figure'?

Godzilla Super7
where the hell is the elbow articulation ?
|
I was definitely interested until I saw them. I guess it's cool they're doing the rose form for Biollante, but that's not the version I was interested in. But it does show they aren't going to rehash what others have done, which I can appreciate.
The Godzilla is kind of a mess. The accessories just feel like padding to hit the price point. The weirdly straight cut in the torso just seems off, and looks more distracting instead of useful. There was really no need to forgo an articulated jaw just to include an alternate head. The alternate hands feel needless to me. If they swapped out the head and hands for blast effects, then I'd be more likely to bite. |
It doesn't look like the tail is articulated at all, does it?
|
Don't most super 7 figures have the look they don't pose but only because of the pins they use?
|
I wish they'd picked a more interesting enemy for the first wave. I get it, Biolante is cool and all in its own way, but Gigan, Mechagodzilla, Ghidorah... All way more visually interesting options!

I honestly didn't think there would ever be a toy of Rose Biollante. |
Yet again it's just more Heisei versions. Showa some love!!!
I also don't get the $85 price. No hinged jaw on Godzilla, no breath effect accessory, and apparently no elbow articulation???? It doesn't even look like he has any sort of ab articulation. You can get the NECA one for half the price and/or the MonsterArts for like $15 more at Barnes & Noble. Super7 should have focused on Showa versions first. They could have easily done a trio of Godzilla 74, MechaGodzilla 74, and King Caesar. Or start off with like Godzilla 64 and Mothra 64. |

Sorry about that my fault |

Really good looking Godzilla stuff...
To Super7.....Bravo ;^) |
As much as I like the super7 stuff (got myself the conan iconic pose figure 2 months ago), they're too expensive plus they're limited in quantity as well which i understand since they're a small toy company. Godzilla and biolante does look nice though.

That price is a little hard to swallow but I definitely like these. I definitely know I'm at least in for Biollante if I can't go for both. Of course I want her final form but everyone is right in that this version hardly gets representation. S.h. Monsterarts always looked amazing to me but they were always too small and expensive. I liked the NECA stuff but I wasn't interested without the other kaiju. This is a little less expensive than Monsterarts but I like how big and chunky these look. Though damn, that Godzilla really should have come with a freakin atomic blast. Maybe even an interchangeable back plate with the dorsal fins powered up.

I AM DISAPPOINT! The tails on the NECA Godzilla figures became my new standard. I lament the fact that NECA lost the license. By the end of the run NECA was doing 95% what SHMA was doing for 30% of the price. These figures are about the same price as SHMA but have simpler designs, no tail articulation, no elbow articulation, I could go on. I wonder if Bandai complained to TOHO that they didn't want other companies to compete directly in their market. It will be interesting to see what Hiya does with their line and at what price. |

Now that you mention it, I have looked as some galleries of Super 7 Ulitmates and thought they looked more poseable in the fan's galleries than in the product pages. I didn't realize it was because I was looking at the pins and they are hidden in the official galleries, but that may have been the case. |
