So much for plastic free packaging from hasbro. I don't get this. They take away the window saying they want to protect the environment but then continue to do these?????

It also breaks continuity with the other animated figures.

Thought the exact same thing. In my mind this was a figure for vhs line (even if there is not freaking way to fit this guy in a vhs box)

I think they meant "plastic free" would be the policy for most retail ML figures, so that may have left wiggle room for the retro figures like this that are not necessarily "standard." Also are you saying you were annoyed they took away the plastic and now that they are releasing a new one with a plastic window you are still upset because they are not doing what you thought they originally meant? Good lord.

Also while the color on this figure does match up with the animated look, nowhere does it say this is meant to be the "animated" version of the character. Also I'm sure they want the VHS packages to stay relatively the same sizes to each other and this would have come in an oversized VHS case.

Frankly I can't wait to get 2 of these, as I had the original Apocalypse carded figure and this hits all my nostalgia points.

Dolemite 06-20-2022 09:50 AM

Wow, really nice figure! Great accessories, too!

I'm just pointing out how it doesn't make sense, that is all.

It's animated because that's his animated coloring. In the comics, Apocalypse is all blue, not purple and blue.

But that Apocalypse toy was all blue...

Anyway, I think the new body and face looks fantastic. Not to mention the gun accessory with the effects. I kind of want him, I just don't know if I want him in those colors. I'll probably at least preorder him just in case though.

classicaaron 06-20-2022 10:01 AM

love this figure, must buy for me

Pravus Prime 06-20-2022 10:06 AM

I am the rocks on the shores of eternity, crash against me and be broken!

Must get for me.

Yeah also there's no cell shading so not part of the animated line, just retro.

Mommar 06-20-2022 10:42 AM

Another case of Hasbro not doing a google search first. The packaging looks about what the original Apocalypse releases looked like. The coloring of the figure is not. It's odd to do a "retro" figure in animated colors when you're in the midst of doing animated figures that also have cell shading. Hasbro never makes any damn sense. Face sculpt and arm cannon look good though.

EvilMonkeyPope 06-20-2022 10:46 AM

He doesn't match Toy Biz colors yet he lacks TAS cell shading.

firmpulse 06-20-2022 10:54 AM

"Apocalypse features textured sculpt and deco inspired by the character’s classic appearances throughout Marvel Comics and includes an alternate head, hands, blast effect, and plasma laser cannon!"

WTH? He looked like this in exactly ZERO comic appearances.

This is exactly the animated series look. They aren't going with cell shading I guess.

Sataninjaku 06-20-2022 11:12 AM

Considering what I paid for the BAF a year or so back, I'm somewhat relieved that I don't care for this. Good for those that do, though.

Designincase 06-20-2022 11:15 AM

It's the animated series look. It's for the people who wanted the design the 90's show. End of story.

Hasbro did the research, it's the Fox Kids animated series look(more or less). It's not part of the VHS line, it's like the Spider-man Retro wave figures where a lot of them share the look from the show.

As others have said, the cell shading is for the VHS line, and Apocalypse is too big for the VHS boxes.

So he's on a retro card, which is a line that 9 out 10 times is also animation inspired.

EternianJerkian 06-20-2022 11:30 AM

Why did he have those big long hoses on each arm?

They can make bigger boxes. He'd fit in most of the bigger Transformer boxes. But I'm assuming they wanted Apocalypse for a mass release(only assuming because we knew this was coming which doesn't happen so often with Pulse exclusives) and not just on pulse. So cheaper to release a normal version.

There is a perfectly reasonable explanation and it is......oh look a bird, I'm gonna go follow it.

It was the 90's. Adding hoses to gauntlets I think came from all those 80's sci fi films. I think to imply his suit is augmenting his physical strength.

RamenRider 06-20-2022 12:00 PM

It's a good looking Apocalypse, but it doesn’t quite reach the original BAF in terms of overall aesthetics to me, that one looked incredible.

I wish they would give that release another spin someday, maybe with slightly different colors and accessories.

Tell that to some idiot on Twitter who tried to say this to me while providing me a picture of Fall of the Mutants where Apocalypse is all blue. :D

The only figures that have been animation inspired on the retrocards have been that exclusive Venom and... uh...

The hoses were there from the getgo which was in the 80s.

Walt Simonson thought they looked cool, I guess. It was the late 80's The fore runner to "Holy shit! pouches, pouches and more pouches!"

Oh no. I don't try to tell those idiots anything. I swear Hasbro is the House of Arbitrary now.

VashTS 06-20-2022 01:06 PM

What is the size of figure and what is it going to cost?

CelticMutt 06-20-2022 02:01 PM

Can anyone tell if the head would color match the BAF decently? Like many here I guess, I never completed the BAF due to how ridiculously expensive Gladiator is. I'd be okay having both versions, especially if the head does a decent match.

Designincase 06-20-2022 02:44 PM

No one can really answer that question until they physically have it in hand.
Of course since Apoc's neck is barely visible, his colors don't really matter.
