MOTU Origins Eternia Playset
|
That looks insane! I dont do the origina line but if i did this would be my holy grail. Wish they woulda done a classics king grayskull instead of the revelations one though.
|
I'm not a MotU collector, but this is pretty cool. I mean, a city that's so welcoming they give you free hugs right there at the front door! Nothing can top that!

I had a lot of toys growing up, mostly garage sales and such, we were not that well off as a kid, but we did fine. Eternia was always that grail that was to far away. I remember seeing the upper wall in the toy section at our “Hills” department store was filled with Eternia. I never had it nor did I know anyone that had it. To buy an original complete in working order could be as high as $5,000. The $550 for the new version is steal, compared to the original.
The sail barge was a dream, grayskull and snake mountain were beyond dreams. This is a true grail. Something I never had nor did I ever think I would. I am getting this, some other toys will take a back seat for a bit, but this is a “once in a life time” moment….and I will not let that go by. |
$550 PLUS $50 shipping. Couldn't they have just upped the price to $600 shipped?
|
No desire to own it but always loved the box art on the original release. Just saw one in the box at an antique mall last week actually.

If I collected He-Man (sold off all of mine as a kid over 20 years ago), this would bump up to #1 in terms of collecting purchases for the year. I think it's a no-brainer when considering the two projects, from the standpoint of which purchase would hold more significance for your collection. Marvel has never had an iconic "headquarters" playset but the 80s are dominated with them, Cat's Lair, USS Flagg, Fortress Maximus, and basically all the He-Man playsets. Marvel's strength are characters and for this Haslab they've contemplated things from the standpoint of "vehicle/playset" first and the figures as the incentive. At some fundamental level they knew this and anticipated that collectors would-on the whole- consider the hell charger as a sunk cost and the real value in the figures/tiers themselves. I just think there's far more utility in the Eternia playset, even at $250 more. There's even a part of me that wants to back this. The main 2 reasons: 1. I can't go down the path of collecting He-Man (lack of space) and I would be compelled to buy everything needed to compliment Eternia 2. I'm holding out for Super 7 to do a Cat's Lair, no matter how slim. |
I would love a cats lair, I can’t imagine the cost or size.
Eternal works with classics as well. I’ve seen pics of the vintage Eternia with classics and done right it’s not bad….in fact even looks great. I doubt we will ever see a larger version so this works for both. As news of Eternia comes out, I’d imagine the haslab may take a bigger hit. I also hope Neca is watching, and don’t start the preorder for the turtles sewer playset during the Eternia drive. Lots of cross collectors on those. I’m cancelling my series 5 and 6 preorders of turtles ultimates…..which are starting to come in at the same time now…..to fund Eternia. |
The price was slightly better than expected. Some people online were predicting $600-800 BEFORE shipping costs. I'm annoyed that there's only a 4-week window though, and of course Mattel takes no consideration in having this end just weeks before people have to focus on Christmas shopping expenses (like Hasbro did with THREE Haslabs last Fall). It would have been preferrable if Mattel had waited to offer this early next Spring and set a 6-week window instead of 4 weeks to give people more time to save up the money and a better chance for this to succeed. If the estimated ship date isn't until 2024, then why rush such a narrow window for the kickstarter?
I wonder if there will be any tier upgrades like we get with Haslab. Probably not though. I don't think Mattel did that with past kickstarters back during the Mattycollector days. Also yeah the timing of this probably isn't helping the Haslab Ghost Rider set. Even after the additional tier reveals, it is STILL losing backers. I think it's pretty much doomed to fail at this point. |
Looks awesome but alas, Haslabs have no space in my tiny ass bedroom
|
I know this is a unicorn of a play set, but honestly it’s kind of ugly and disjointed. It’s too big anyways, something that size needs to blow my mind to buy it. At $600 plus tax I’ll probably skip this one and wait for Snake Mountain.
|
The price is right on the money with this one IMO. As far as the look. Its pretty close to the original concept.
Mattel did a solid for MOTU collectors with this one. I'm not getting it. I don't collect MOTU except for some of the new MOTUR figures (only select ones) |

Easy pass. I love my origins but not at THAT price.
|
If I remotely did anything MOTU related, I would be all over this. It is a beautiful piece and the secondary market prices will be crazy on this thing.
|
Damn this thing is bigger than my kid.
|
I might be interested in that gray skull tower. Can’t fit the whole eternity anywhere. Anyone interested in splitting three ways? A tower for each?
|
I hope there's a payment plan ...

As for upgrades, I think it's possible. Mattel offered a lot of incentives with their New Generation WWE ring (extra figures and ring skirts). |

I just missed out on He-man too... I mean I had a few He-man toys, but I think I was still a little too young to get attached to that franchise in any meaningful way. Tranformers and Joes were the perfect time for me though... and then I caught the beginning of TMNT and was out of toys right when Power Rangers hit. So I am pretty happy not being tempted by any of the He-man or Power Ranger stuff that I see in the toy aisle.
I love that Mattel is doing playsets for their crowd funding thing though... wish Hasbro would go back to playsets... IMO Jabba's Barge counts as a playset. |

Now I'm up to my neck in all things "ORIGINS STYLE"!!!! Collecting isn't all about nostalgia for me. It's the art I appreciate. It took me having to mature a little more to understand MOTU and WWE. Wish I hadn't! lol! DOH! |
