Hasbro's Marvel Universe Line is Awesome
 

I can be a bit critical of Hasbro when it comes to their Marvel Universe line. So now I want to take a moment to talk about what I think is awesome about Hasbro's MU line of figures and why it is that I buy almost every figure they put out.

1: They finally made the switch to 3 3/4 scale. This has been a dream for collectors of Marvel, Star Wars and Joe's alike. It was a bold move and well executed.

2: Hasbro is doing a great job of mixing in obscure characters throughout the line that have never seen the inside of a toy store until now. I think it's very cool that they would go against the grain to make these characters available to us for the first time ever.

3: Detail and articulation. I think many of the MU molds are fantastically well made and really have a natural style that even Legends had trouble with. They are well proportioned (mostly) and the articulation for the size is very good. That being said, I would love to see a super articulated Spiderman. I don't care if it's in the MU or Spiderman line. I just really want to see it. I love the web head!

4: Great paint apps. I know some figures can be hit or miss, but when properly applied the paint looks great! The shiny glossy metallic paint that they use for figures like Iron man and others looks great!

5: Hasbro's web site. I think it's great that you can order directly from Hasbro. Now the items are almost always limited but the prices are fair and the option is nice to have.

6: Accompanying lines. I think it's very cool that with each marvel film that hits theaters we get a line that not only includes the movie styled version of our heros but comic styled ones as well. Great for collectors looking to grow their universe.

7: Communication. I do feel that hasbro does a great job of getting proms out for us to see and drool over long before the release. Nice to know what's on the way.

8: Price point. The MU line I think comes with a very reasonable price. I would love to see a little more happening with accessories. An unmasked head or a new gun instead of the same ones all the time. But all and all the price point is pretty good.

9: Consistent releases. They just keep pumping theses guys out! I almost wish they would slow down sometimes. But what fun it is scooping these guys up!

10: I've always wanted to have a Marvel Universe collection that encompassed as wide a variety of characters as possible. And now thanks to Hasbro and this appropriately named line. Marvel Universe is bringing that want home. With its space saving size, accompanying lines, deluxe figures, and dare I dream basses and vehicles I should think will eventually make it to shelves at some point. This line will be the greatest Marvel line to grace store and collectors shelves ever.

I also think it's great that the Legends line is making a come back and I will say that the figure images shown so far look amazing! I will not be collecting them but I know a lot of you long for the 6" scale and I'm glad you're getting it back!

Hasbro has taken the Marvel licensee to a new level and for that I am grateful!

But, I agree with the title.

It's what got me into collecting.

As much as I enjoy the figures, I must add how very annoyed I am as a resident of California to see nothing but classic Iron Man, HoM Spiderman, Luke Cage and Extremis Iron Man at just about every store I've been to over the past 3 months.

I love the hunt as much as the next person, but dayum, there's just nothing to hunt. I have to go online or wait till the next convention just to get the stuff I really want. you just can't compete with scalpers or collectors who wait till every store stocks product at midnight or whatever to just pluck straight from the box.

None of the rare figures even make it onto pegs at our walmarts, IMO. Anyone else experiencing anything similar?

It's the same here in Georgia. My local Walmart has had the same figures for almost a year now, and I do mean the same figures.

I'm on board with greenskar. It's really irritating when all you see is the same figures all the time. It's like you gotta be there the second they put em out to get the ones you want.

One major thing that stands out is that Hasbro's quality control at this scale for a Marvel line is WAY better than Toy Biz'. Also, of all Hasbro's Marvel comic and movie lines, Marvel Universe has the best quality and paint apps. The new thigh swivel is heavily favored over the XMO/movie Thor/IM2 lines. Paint apps tend to be the best on Marvel Universe too.

I agree with the title of this post. I really have been waiting for this line for decades. Plus having them in scale with the other "sisterlines" of Marvel rocks. Despite the occasional paint app problem or joint problem, or scale issue I really love this line. My only real complaint still has to be the distribution. I really love the hunt and can rarely order online so its a shame that you can't find anything in stores except the same half dozen all the time. After a hard week of work I used to love rewarding myself by heading to the store and picking up something for my daughter and a figure or two for myself and it seems those days are gone with MU.

Now this is more like it! :) While I do think you made some valid points in your other thread, I believe that the good Hasbro is doing with this line far outweighs the bad. And I actually don't really think that they are doing anything bad but there is some room for improvement. Remember, this line is still in its infancy. The latest waves have been kicking major ass and produced some of the best figures in the entire line, IMO. If this is an indication of where they are heading then we have don't have much to complain about. All we can do is support the line and be vocal about what we would like to see in the future.

It re-introduced me to collecting...I'm sure my wife isn't too thrilled with Hasbro LOL.

Same here, MU got me back into collecting, and while I agree with most of what was said, I'm another california guy who just can't find anything new. I got lucky twice in the past month and found an iron patriot and winter soldier, but there are so many figures I've just never seen, never saw wave 6 or 7 in retail, I got a thor from hts, but never got ms marvel, black widow, warpath etc. And I just don't wanna buy everything online, its too expensive and takes away a lot of the fun to me.

Neither is mine.

The funny thing is my wife is who got me my first figures, it was Moon Knight and Union Jack, she got them got for me while I was in the hospital recovering from brain surgery and from bacterial meningitis that I developed after the surgery. She has no one to blame but herself.

Your wife sounds like an amazing woman... Especially since those are probably my two favorite figures from the MU line thus far.

I have to say, I think this post does a much better job of stating pros and cons of the line than the other one. :)

Of course, I don't expect everyone to be a drooling pro-Hasbro zombie, either. They make mistakes, too.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of that has to do with the area you live in. I know that certain areas of the country have a harder time with the more rare or sought-after figures due to the proximity of "scalpers" and e-businesses. California, New York and Minnesota are good examples.

Even so, distribution issues and order placements are also factors. For example, my area is only now getting the last couple waves of MU after a long dry spell. But we are starting to see them - even some of the "OMG HTF!!" figures.

Imagine me so in Ireland we;re fucked lol :D last new ones i saw ...wave 1 still the only wave in my toyshops..i did pick up wave 5 in a comic shop the rest i've bought online ...Still i love this line its what got me back into collecting and the figures now are a massive improvement over the 1st ones

That's great. My wife also bought me my first 3.75" comic figures as a birthday present (Cyc, Hulk, War Machine, and Torch)...she stood in line at the Hasbro booth at Comic Con and sweet talked the security dudes which got her and my cousins in...she won a contest online and scored us an SDCC exclusive figure...so much like your wife, this is her collection as much as it is mine!

Yeah, I realized as much. I never intended for that comment to suggest I blamed Hasbro for it, although they are definitely involved in distribution, only that it's becoming an aggravating situation. I was lucky enough to find a Mystique and Multiple man at regular price at a local comic shop. That was the most awesome hunting experience I've had recently...sadly, though, I will not divulge the name of this comic shop, because times is tough in Cali. I can't afford no competition right now :p
