Doctor Who - Any Fans?

I'm a big fan of British television, and this is right up my alley. I dig some other stuff like this too (oh, maybe Red Dwarf, Mighty Boosh, Misfits?) and I was wondering if I had anyone to bullshit with about it.

Crazy Jetty 09-08-2011 11:52 PM

DEAR GOD YES!
I LOVE Doctor Who. And Torchwood.
I eagerly await each episode. Although, I don't have Stars, so no Miracle Day for me. I do have my parents DVR it for me, go down every couple weeks and catch up.
But Doctor Who is one of the few things I genuinely get excited about.
I can't believe how amazing the writing has been, since the change over to the 11th Doctor.

cainraw 09-09-2011 12:00 AM

Check out the Inbetweeners

Do Boy 09-09-2011 12:07 AM

I've never actually seen the show personally. But my friend keeps telling me to check it out and that I would like it.

SpeedBreaker 09-09-2011 02:40 AM

I've been watching since Matt Smith's second episode and I quite like it. I think Matt's doing a pretty good job as the Doctor. My main interest is with the classic series though.

jamesmruddy 09-09-2011 03:12 AM

I've been watching Doctor Who since the Pertwee era. Met McCoy in person and got his autograph. Never miss an episode, have every episode that has been novelized and all of the books from Virgin and BBC books and then some. Yeah I'm a Whovian.

DogFashionDisco 09-17-2011 08:16 PM

I'm glad I'm not alone, you guys have good taste. I might pick up a Tardis to go with my figures... I already painted my bed room the same blue and black. It looks awesome, truly.

DogFashionDisco 09-19-2011 09:01 PM

I'm watching Doctor Who - The Waters of Mars.... and it is freaky.

Darkspeed 10-06-2011 02:08 AM

I've been watching Doctor Who since the relaunch with Christopher Eccleston... Up til that point, I'd only watched a couple of old Tom Baker episodes. But I'm happy with the newer shows, and Matt Smith is fantastic in the role.

Sadly, I feel the last season was a bit dire in places, and lacked a little something... Steven Moffat is a great writer on one-off episodes, but his overall arc has been pretty shakey. Managed to pull it back with a really strong season finale last week though!

jamesmruddy 10-06-2011 03:45 AM

Who else watched Criminal Minds last night and caught the Doctor Who reference?

CLASSIFIED 10-06-2011 07:07 AM

Tom Baker is my favorite Doctor, I met him and Collin at a convention when I was a kid.

I made a burgundy coat, scarf and pants for my 3.75" Indiana Jones fig when I was a kid and used that as the Doctor. My mom built me a TARDIS for him out of wood and sculpted me doll too, but I didn't play with that because it was too precious.

I watched "The Girl That Waited" last night. It feels like the Rory/ Amy story is approaching its conclusion.

I feel exactly the opposite here. I think his overall story arcs are intricately woven, and practically genious. I'm feeling there are things that were set up in his first season that we still haven't seen the payoff too, or even aware of. (Such as the references to The Silence. Didn't even know those were there until recently)

I'm inclined to agree. In fact, I'm feeling that the eleventh doctor's story may soon be coming to an end. (Maybe Smith's contract is coming up soon, and they're setting a jumping off point if he does?)

Matt Smith leaving already? I think just new companions.

I think the Doctor River kills is one of those "fake" people from that other episode.

Isn't Doctor Who just about out of regenerations? Maybe he and River's offspring takes over as the new Doctor, or perhaps the Doctor's daughter will make an appearance. (Remember her?)

I'd like to see a black Doctor, or a woman Doctor... anyone else interested in that?

I just feel Moffat's pacing of the season has been off tilt. Last season was great, loved every moment of it, but this one annoyed me a lot in places... For example, having the battle of Demon's Run and the big reveal about River right in the middle of a season? That feels more like season finale material to me. The stand alone episodes, particularly the one written by Neil Gaiman, were far more enjoyable.

Man, there's a plot point they never bothered going back to... But just an FYI, they recently did an episode of Sarah Jane Adventures that retcon'd the "limited regenerations" rule.

Do Boy 10-07-2011 06:30 AM

I watched an episode on netfilx. It was ok. Queasy I have to watch a few more

So what, he can regenerate as long as people keep watching the show?

That's kind of confusing because River gave the Doctor all of her remaining generations to keep him from dying.

How could she do that if she has an infinite number of them and why would she if he does too?

You actually raise a good point... Only thing I can guess is because River isn't a true, full blood Time Lord (She was conceived in the TARDIS, only has traces of their DNA in her body) so she is limited? I dunno, they never explain it properly... Another thing to be annoyed at! :P

But essentially, The Doctor is effectively immortal, unless he dies before he can regenerate.

CLASSIFIED 10-08-2011 03:05 PM

They never explain anything properly in Dr. Who.

It's part of the show's charm.

No, but Abed on the show Community started watching a show called Inspector Time. It's clearly a reference to Doctor Who.

The pack in comic in the Power Man and Iron Fist MU 2 pack reminded me of Dr. Who.

For realsies, did anyone else notice this?

I just looked at a picture of that set (I don't own one) and didn't see anything that reminded me of the WHO.

There was a Doctor Who reference on Supernatural last night as well.

Caught that... Had to laugh at that little nod, and was a great episode to boot.

You'd have to read the story inside.

One of their friends is staring in a show that is reminiscent of Dr. Who and the Dalek like creatures turn out to be real "Daleks".

The real "Doctor" shows up and helps Power Man and Iron Fist defeat the Daleks.

Snowflakian 10-09-2011 05:49 AM

The show Leverage does Doctor Who references all the time too.

Tom Baker, Sarah Jane Baker, Colin Baker, if you pay attention to the cover aliases they use, Doctor Who actors and characters pop up all the time. Yeah supernatural did it too with Amy Pond.

I'm a diehard fan of doctor who myself. Though really at this point it's starting to seem like who isn't these days.

As for the show and regenerations. It's in the past mythology. The timelord council can great more regens, but without a council, the doctor can do it himself. River only had a limited number of regens because she doesn't know that about the council or the history of the timelords.

As for the flesh doctor, that was never going to be how he escaped the death. Flesh doctor can't regen. They said so in the episode itself when he flipped out about 900+ years of memories with no regenerating. The show does explain a lot of what's going on, but it's in the finer details and easy to miss because the pace is so fast. I'm glad I DVR episodes for rewatches to catch a lot of stuff if I missed something.

Also, just a heads up... But prepared for a big shocker on the 11-12, and 12-13 regens. =D Not sure which they'll do it on, but one or the other is going to have something really holy crap in it that relates to River and birthdays.
