Starting a 3.75/4" collection?!?
I collect mainly MU and I really like the scale. I'm not an overly massive DC fan but there are a few characters I really like. My question is are the figures as good in comparison to DC and should I start buying them?
I'd mostly be interested in the main Justice League characters, Batman and his villains... providing they look cool enough... I've heard mixed reviews about the Infinite Heroes crisis line and I'm really unsure. Any of the figures I've seen in stores I've not been interested in so I've not picked one up and can't judge for myself. |
I'll save you some money...don't do it man...don't do it PLEASE.

The 3.75 (they are actually closer to 3.5) from DC are just terrible. They are awful toys and you should just save your money. Heck JLUs are better

If you like the size and articulation of Marvel Universe, there's nothing that compares to it in DC. The old Super Powers were cool (in my opinion) with their action features, but they lack articulation and there's nowhere near enough characters made. Infinite Crisis was bad. Justice League Unlimited has a wide range of characters but again lack in articulation. The only other options I can think of are Total Justice (awful), Minimates (even smaller scale, decent but not great character assortment), and Pocket Superheroes.

They're nowhere near as bad as people like to trash them as being, so don't listen to that. Judge for yourself whether you like them or not. Pleasing yourself is all that's important, and no one else's opinions really matter.
However, if you only want them to be with your MU figures, the Infinite Heroes line are smaller than the MU figures. So not a good match. (Good match for TF Alternators, though!) On the flip side, figures like Young Justice, and Justice League Unlimited are larger than MU. So also not a good match (Never mind the stylings are all wrong) I don't really know about Green Lantern. I have a few, but no "normal" figures like Jordan or Sinestro. But at the very least, figures like Kilowog and Isamot are pretty good scale for MU. |
Ok well I'm sold on the whole don't get them thing. Thanks guys you just saved me a few hundred...
I'll just hold out a hope that they make a new line that compares to MU really well... I'll be waiting a long time... |

That's gonna be a long wait for you and me both I tell ya what. I don't foresee Mattel ever putting anything as good as Hasbro out in terms of 3.75'' in the very near future. It'll be a forever long wishful thinking kind of a thing. |
It's up to u, like u said you only want the main characters and not every 1 so if u can find yourself a flash or batman then do so, the sculpts aint bad by any means on the infinite heroes line, but the articulation and limited character selection are, I used to love DC stuff but stopped collecting/buying it due to cost and lack of articulation. The best dc stuff is the DCU figures but they're 6'' figures and compairing them to ML is not even close, so I'd say keep to collecting Marvel, but buy whut u love, so if u see a small batman figure u like get it, or make/buy a custom.

I have the entire collection and I would say go for it. If the only ones you want are the main JL guys, the majority of them have good articulation. Martian Manhunter has perfect articulation, I'd say better than most early MU since his legs don't fall off when you bend them. Batman also comes in this kind of articulation, I suggest the Public Enemies pack that comes with Batman and Superman in the improved articulation. With Flash, you're a bit SOL unless you want to pay a ridiculous price for the improved articulation version that comes with Trickster and Heat Wave. Hal Jordan also comes in updated articulation and I think it looks great. Much better than the movie line. Aquaman only comes in the Starro pack but that pack is just awesome with the giant Starro action figure. Wonder Woman unfortunately has the crappy female articulation. I'd be happy to take some pics if you're still not entirely sold either way.

It really varies figure to figure.
Size wise though in comparison to the Marvel line, it's like all the DC heroes are kids/teens. Some have decent articulation, others have basic old school style articulation. It really varies figure to figure or version to version. Same to the sculpts. All the female figures suck articulation wise though. Some of the last waves started to get better and are rocking though. Like the Kyle Rayner Parallax, Deathstroke, and some others are pretty awesome if albeit lacking any kind of accessories whatsoever. |
Thanks guys... I'm actually thinking I'll get some. They seem to be a lot cheaper than most of the MU figures I want. Trouble is though I think I'd do what I did with MU and say "I'll only get my fav characters" but then become obsessed and get too many...
@thechris Pics would be great, I really want to see all those heroes you mentioned, Specifically Batman, Superman and Aquaman. |
Here is a good starting point, it doesn't list all the characters but if you click on the pictures it will show you if it has a variant as well
Infinite Heroes |
The later wave DCIH are the only worth while figures to get as they have better proportions and more articulation in the ankles, wrists and in some cases upper thigh swivels.
The figures from the later waves include (and you need to check the pics when buying because many have an older version that does not have the same articulation/proportions): Superman, Batman, Captain Atom, Capt. Atom Gold, Aquaman, Flash, Deathstroke, Mr. Terrific, Medusa Mask Psycho Pirate, Martain Manhunter, Monitor, Anti-Monitor (a great figure btw), Fire Bug, Parallax GL, Grenn Lantern, Booster Gold, Max Lord, and a bunch more. The later DCIH are a bit smaller than MU so they don't match up as well but they are great figures none-the-less. As for the older DCIH waves, I would forget them unless you plan to use the heads for customs. |
I have a few that I bought loose for a buck each- I was thinkning of making th Young Avengers...but Power Girl is just..it's the second worst figure I've ever seen (first being the horror that was the Showdown Invisible Woman).
I'd buy that Spectre for the cloak though- anyone got one? |

Then purchase the DC Infinite Heroes Public Nemeies 6 pack which includes the modern articulation Superman and modern articulation Batman. You'll also get Hawkman, and this is the only way to get Gorilla Grodd, President Lex Luthor (Lex in a black business suit) and Major Force (An AWESOME figure in every way). That's 12 awesome figures, the entire Justice League plus some of their greatest arch enemies. Then if you want to pair Batman and Major Force up with Joker and Captain Atom who are available individually. I recommend the newer Joker with the hat as he looks amazing. Then finally (and would say this one is optional) finish off your collection with the Gotham City Patrol 6 pack which comes with another Batman (old articulation but still decent sculpt) Jason Todd/Hush, Catwoman, Killer Croc and two Gotham City PD in SWAT gear to add some spice to your Batman rogues gallery. Most of these figures are still easy to find on eBay or at your local Winners/TJ Maxx for quite cheap. |
