Marvel Universe Super Skrull

1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, I'd finished both Super Skrulls and finally got a decent dark backdrop to shoot em against. Figured I'd try my hand at sculpting parts while learning how to cast so I'd say this project was worked on over the course of about 4-5 months which was mostly me futzing around with materials and going back to the drawing board a couple times. I hope you guys enjoy the finished product.

Questions, feedback and critiques are much appreciated. Recipe is at the bottom.

Body - Cable torso and legs.
Head - sculpted using Super Sculpey Firm then molded and cast.
Arms - Fists sculpted from scratch with Super Sculpey Firm with Apoxe Sculpt touch ups. Biceps and Elbows were modded Cable arms merged with XMO movie Wolverine's hips then sculpted over with Apoxie Sculpt. also molded and cast.
Lower Legs (invisible) - clear resin casts of original legs.
Shoulder Flair - Apoxie Sculpt
Paint - Testors Acrylics
Flames - resin casts of chopped up flame bits from a Toybiz movie Human Torch figure.

Iceman 05-15-2012 05:20 PM

That turned out REALLY well. I assume you didn't use a Skrull soldier head because it would have looked too small?

NoodleChow 05-15-2012 05:41 PM

Thanks Iceman! and yeah that head would have been a bit small and I'd wanted a more grimacing expression.

TheSymbiote 05-15-2012 05:52 PM

So...............beautiful! :(

Lol

Iceman 05-15-2012 06:27 PM

Kinda makes me miss the days when there was only ONE Super-Skrull and he was an actual threat.

LORD MARVEL 05-15-2012 06:59 PM

wow great work my dude...u got mad skillz

behindthemask 05-15-2012 07:03 PM

Awesome figures! My only suggestion is the skrull that has "Thing" hands cut out or make some small rock sections to cover part of the forearm in a random pattern to make it seem like a gradual transformation.

snake5289 05-15-2012 07:56 PM

So awesome. Makes me wish Hasbro would make one. One of the F4's best villains.

Saint Phe 05-15-2012 08:08 PM

So. Perfect. Your sculpting and casting skills are insane!

Dagger 05-15-2012 08:36 PM

Very jealous of your skills. Great job.

martian410 05-15-2012 08:42 PM

amazing work!

Ninjinister 05-15-2012 09:44 PM

WAY better than mine turned out.

behindthemask 05-15-2012 10:26 PM

I knew there was a reason I sold all my skrulls to Lord Marvel... So I could buy these lol.

Symbiote 05-15-2012 10:54 PM

wow. Just wow. Awesome work again Noodlechow. Those 4-5 months definitely shows in the quality of your work. Great job.

DogFashionDisco 05-15-2012 11:11 PM

Please keep making customs, because this is Awesome.

yeah dude, all their powers combined but still stronger than the FF combined so they needed to outwit his powers in order to beat him. that's my kind of SS. seen some of the newer ones go out like chumps.

thanks LM, you got a steady hand too to get that AA of yours looking badass in his x-force colors. also love how you put your SS together to go with your massive skrull army.

i'd toyed with that idea early on but ended up settling for this look:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...je/skrull1.jpg
also had maybe hoped to make normal hands to swap on there but ended up scrapping that idea. i'll give it a shot with apoxie bits when i end up making another one. =)

haha man, yeah i saw his ultra mega army. makes me a little jealous as i have none of those guys to go with SS.

yeah dude, another reason why i wanted to make him. MU is somewhat lacking in baddies and i have no one to really just fight the FF in a more fisticuffs manner. if hasbro makes one, i hope it's on the hercules body.

thanks Saint Phe, love seeing the work you do in your thread too. your SS is ingenious with the parts used. but yeah, figured this project would force me to sculpt something since i used to do some traditional and cg sculpting. been trying to get back on that wagon.

thanks Sym! i'd spend a few days debating which course of action to take whenever running into problems. mostly casting or design related. had planned, sculpted and cast an articulated arm with 4 pivots but had to scrap it since it wasn't entirely stable and i wasn't happy with the look. definitely got a peek at how toy production works with this project.

haha always, DFD. dunno what my next ones are gonna be but have a bunch of stuff on the back burner till i have the right parts like Resident Evil ones and a spreadsheet filled with marvel characters. also hoping to make some primary justice league members with MU figures. i think i'm hoping to make a huge groot and fix up rocket raccoon's articulation next. also waiting on a buddy to ship some parts so i can finally start vision using that cyclops you sent. same for an x-factor havok with another cyclops sent by fancy pants.

jimsloth 05-16-2012 04:54 AM

wow! and you say you found a use for WO Wolvie's hips? Amazing. Still don't understand it, but amazing none the less.

proteus 05-16-2012 05:25 AM

Holy shit mate...those are sooooooo awesome,i dont really like Skrulls, but hell you made them look AMAZING!!! That headsculpt is a winner,if you started selling those, you would be a rich man!!!

Yeh, sold/traded him 7 of the lil guys. I'd say get yourself some 6'' skrulls!

scottmurdock 05-16-2012 08:20 AM

These are so AWESOME! You should *cough* cast all the parts and pieces and *cough* sell us casts for our 3.75" figures *cough*, LOL.

oh yes, dude. i needed large enough discs to use as the connection joint for the elbow. then used the outer portion of the joint to build the upper forearm from so they'd be a perfect fit into eachother. then i'd put a plastic bar through em to act as the peg.

haha man, yeah been thinking about that for a long while. only thing is that i'd need the more expensive tools to guarantee that every cast part comes out relatively perfect. also need to order and test out this more durable resin with pigments that other casters have been using that might also double as a semi translucent resin.

holy crap, that's a good amount. i wish i was army building now versus when i was crazy into star wars and bought like 20 versions of same clone trooper then another 30 variations. would be rolling in AIM, Skrulls, and ninjas by now. if i have the cash to spend on a FF classics Super Skrull, i'll prolly bite. for now though i think i can only really afford this guy:

haha yeah as i said above, it might be something i can do down the line. right now all the parts require extensive dremeling after the fact and would need the better tools to efficiently do it. preferably a faster curing more durable resin and need to redo the molds so i can have the parts with the peg holes already drilled.

unless hasbro showcases a Super Skrull by then. which i hope they do since it's about effing time. =P

JinSaotome 05-16-2012 04:43 PM

WOW. The time was worth it! Epic fists and feet casts there

HA! I gave LM two myself! He's amassing an army!

Superskrull is one of the baddest mofos in Marvel- and his antagonistic respect with Ronan in Annihilation is something to see.
Plus he can make invisible fire, the sick bastard!

DogFashionDisco 05-16-2012 06:42 PM

I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the DC stuff, and I've been keeping an eye on your work in case you posted Vision, I'm sure it'll rock.

We swear we've opened this thread specifically to see this awesome skrull.

DAMN IT ALL TO HELL WHY ARE CUSTOM FIGURES BETTER THEN THE FIGURES A MASSIVE COMPANY IS GETTING PAID TO MAKE!
