DC Multiverse Detective Comics #1000 Batman Chase Variant
A German Youtube reviewer has received the chase variant for McFarlane’s Detective Comics #1000 Batman figure. The figure features the bat symbol with the yellow oval and the capsule utility belt. All of the accessories and the packaging appear to be the same as the standard release.

Eeeeeeeehhhhhh-yuck.

Looks better to me. Probably because I prefer that suit though.

Thanks for the heads up!
|
Awesome! I love the blue / grey classic Batman suit.

McFarlane went from not wanting the joints to break up the sculpt to having the ugliest sculpt-breaking joints.

Odd look
I finally got a chance to see these first hand and I in the last 3 weeks, I haven't seen a single one sell at Target. I'm telling you, that oversize and lack of meaningful BAF, is a bad way to kick off a new line. Oh, and the fact that the articulation spots look ridiculous. If I am going to invest in a line, I want to know it has longevity.
Unrelated, I wish is that DC had kept and committed to the Icons line. I am 100% convinced this Mcfarlane line is going to be a giant catastrophe. I know for a fact that it is already way underperforming. It's crazy, there are Targets that still carry the Multiverse Justice Buster figures from 5 years ago, and now they dump massive quantities on their shelves? There hasn't been a Batman or Superman movie since Justice League and that was 3 years ago. They keep making the same mistakes over and over. |
The head totally kills it for me, sadly. The ears are too small for that costume and Batman is too frowny.

McFarlane doing what McFarlane does best: chase paint variations.
I still have all my Spawn chase variations sitting in several boxes in the basement because I refuse to sell them for $1 a piece. (exaggerating, but not by much) I've also experience similar sightings at my local Targets. They're either re-stocking these DC figures really fast, or they haven't moved. I like McFarlane and I wish them well, but I'm afraid the collector's toys landscape is what what it was 20 years ago. |
It's DC.
There is no longevity in Toylines with DC, consequence of not having a master license. It's the worst part of being so Bat-focused, once a company runs out of Bat-variants they move on. There's probably more collectors out there who collect every version of Batman than there are collectors who want a broad collection of DC characters. |
It's not just the toys that DC is failing in though, even their comics are suffering. I don't mean just the current ones with the shitty writing (such as Wally becoming Dr Manhattan), but DC keeps announcing omnibuses of the Silver and Bronze Age comics only to cancel them a month later. They have canceled Aquaman Silver Age V1, Justice League Bronze Age V3, Brave and the Bold Bronze Age V3, Jonah Hex Bronze Age V1, Absolute Swamp Thing by Alan Moore V2 and 3, New Teen Titans V5, Gotham by Gaslight, and many many more. It's like they are afraid of their own history.

I have to buy any of these McFarlane DC figures, but I think I will pick up the blue and gray version of the Batman figures.
I'm a sucker for the classic color scheme. |
Blue variants look good to me.
I hate the elbow joints and dislike the batman chest/abs. Really ugly. The superman looks much better at the chest. Mcfalan can either eliminate that ab crunch or move below the breast line. It will look lots better/ It took Hasbro years to be decent. Life 5 years. Hoping McFarlane can do it in one. They are decent, but want something that corrects the mistakes above. keep a waist joint that they currently have. You do not even need that ab ball joint since it's already doesn't crunch much. That saves money as it uses less parts, and looks more esthetically pleasing. I love that there is no thigh swivel. Thigh swivels are ugly and no thigh bends like that. I think thigh swivels are the WORST articulation point. Ideally the swivel needs to be at a knee joint if you must have a swivel below the hip, like NECA does. |
I disagree. The lack of a thigh swivel hurts the figures. I don't care if thighs don't bend that way, they're toys, not real people. Thigh swivels allow for more comic booky super hero poses. I want to be able to turn to any comic book page featuring that character and pose them exactly like they are on the page or panel.
Anyway, my Target is flooded with Batman. Three on an end cap by the baby clothes and 3 on the normal island where both Marvel and DC are. |
It's a neat change up, the hips on these are what killed it for me and they will never do an animated style Swamp-Thing.

I'm out. They didnt include the thigh bend.
|
Oh yeah!
I can’t wait to either grab the variants in store or online!

|
Awesome! I've been scouring pegs for months trying to find this bastard. At least now I know I can take a couple weeks off. Thanks!
|
If only they could do chest to stomach transitions better. It just looks so bad that it ruins the aesthetic of the figure. :(

Look at the fucking proportions of that figure. It looks like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, but white and with a tiny little head. And that mid-torso joint is the most hideous one I've ever seen on a toy.
Plus, if you want to nit-pick, the sculpt overall looks like crap. There's almost no detail whatsoever - Batman is almost completely smooth - and any attempt at portraying actual muscles just looks absurd. I mean, look at Batman's left arm. It's PUNY, and biceps aren't even remotely shaped like that! Compare and contrast with the NECA NYCC Batman...now THAT'S what a Batman figure is supposed to look like! http://www.toyark.com/attachments/58...16557-copy.jpg |
I agree the head is too small on the McFarlane, but I feel the NECA one has TOO much detail. There's so many muscles on him that it looks unrealistic. And his thighs are HUGE!
