NECA Dungeons and Dragons Figures

So... Hasbro gave up after Drizzt, huh?
These look neat though! |

Hmmm. I was pretty damn excited for the teaser, but the reveal is a bit of a letdown. Grimsword looks ok, but Warduke is really disappointing. I don’t like the realistic human body at all. Seems so off. The original toys were so damn “toyetic” that honoring that aesthetic would have been the way to go. Similar to what Super7 is doing for TMNT. I mean, Neca did great with the Defenders of the Earth and Gargoyles Goliath. Those captured the essence of the characters really well. This is a rare miss from Neca in my opinion.
Regardless, pretty cool how sword and sorcery is pretty prevalent lately with toys. MOTU Origins, Golden Axe, Conan, and now this. |
So in for Warduke. Would love to see the rest of the old D&D line done. Also HE NEEDS NIGHTMARE!
Also in regards to Drizzt. That was supposed to be based on his appearance in D&D Dark Alliance. The NECA license can be considered separate. Also I think Drizzt did not do that well, though I bought him, as he is still available on Pulse. https://hasbropulse.com/products/dun...ulse-exclusive |
Warduke is an instant buy for me if I see him in store. I had him as a kid as well.
They should bring the Dragonlance and Ravenloft series to action figure form. So many great characters from the novels. I used to read them as a young adult. Knowing these toy companies, they'll release just 99% male figures and 1% or 0% female figures (McFarlane anyone?). I try to support female figures where I can. Like I buy only female wrestling figures at full price and some male figures when they're on clearance. Believe me, voting with your wallet will get their attention. Another thing is I guess they don't have to worry about censoring guns since these are medieval figures (McFarlane again comes to mind with the whole WB BS). I never saw the Drizzt set in stores anywhere. I saw a statue set of Drizzt at a GameStop a while back though. I don't collect statues so it was a hard pass for me. No, I don't plan to order the set from pulse. It's either in a brick-and-mortar store or no buy for me. |
So are these based on the 80s toys?

I'm still hoping Hasbro does a Black Series style line for the DnD cartoon

These characters needed to be more muscular.
|
Yeah Warduke is too slim looking. Not wimpy, it's a muscular sculpt, but for a Sword & Sorcery fantasy barbarian / swordfighter he lacks a bit of... "mass".
Otherwise these are good IMO. If they are available globally I might bite, but if they are exclusive to this particular shop / US-exclusive it's an easy pass. |

Well, this is an 'holy shit' kind of announcement. I had Warduke as a kid and I used to love that figure. Very excited that he's getting a modern remake, although I agree with many in this thread that he needs to be 'roided up a little. Still a must-buy for me, however.
That said, why don't I see any joints on Warduke's armored arm or leg? Is it because it's an early prototype, or is NECA going with some sort of material sleeve over the limbs? Or even worse (but least likely), giving those limbs no articulation at all (which would be really dumb and never happen)? I haz a confuse. Oh, and as for Grimsword, I don't remember him and he looks ALMOST cool, but more goofy than anything else. He looks like a mish-mash of random parts someone threw together. |

As per usual with NECA, these look pretty great, although how they'll turn out once in-hand is another matter... Not sure why The first two are Warduke and...Grimsword? Rather than Warduke and Strong heart, though.

These looks pretty cool! Never had anything D&D related as a child, since my father was convinced it was a gateway portal to satanism. He once caught me looking at a AD&D sourcebook at B. Daltons and he about exploded like I was looking at hardcore pornography!
Ah, the good ol’ days… |
