If you have a girlfriend/fiance/wife does she share your nerdy(and I use that term loosely) interests? Does she read comics, collect action figures, watch anime anything like that? My girl doesn't share my aspiration for collecting, but she does love reading comics...all thanks to me introducing her to Watchmen. That comic still does wonders to this day. She has an unnatural hatred for anime however.

Nope. She's not nerdy at all. Kind of upsetting at times, but then, I've had nerdy female friends and I simply can't stand being around them after awhile. Too much in common makes it hard for me to be around people. The Dark Knight and Iron Man are two of her favorite movies, though, so that's nice. And slowly but surely she's coming to appreciate other superhero and scifi films.

When I started dating my girlfriend she bought The Watchmen for me as a Christmas present. She is a great catch, trust me. She is really into Harry Potter, so I just picked up the LEGO Hogwarts set to put together while we wait to go to Chicago. I guess that's what love is really about, being able to share interests with each other.

My wife has her own interests: knitting, sewing, cross-stitch. I'm the cartoons/comics/action figures guy. But we both like video games and photography.

Different flavors of the same ice cream brand, as it were. A good match, and that's all I ask!

I like to think I out-kicked my coverage with my current gf, and the last one as well. That said, she isn't the coolest about my plastic crack habit. I can't think of any geeky/nerdy things that she is into. She watches Wheel of Fortune every night, but that is more of an old person's pastime. The old gf loved awful action movies way more than anyone I know, and thereby loved super hero movies which was a step in the right direction, but neither were collectors of anything I can think of.

They don't complain about my collections, but I have my own place. I am sure it would become a sticking point if things progressed to that point, unfortunately. I'd keep most of the collection, just expect my displays would have to be seriously reduced.

Our collecting & geeky/nerdy interests are part of what makes us such attractive personalities, right?

Not really but shes very cool and understanding in the things that I enjoy and even encourages me which is a great companion to have. I usually try to include her in my new purchases and what I get in the mail to have her feel as though she's completely out of the loop. Ill also ask her from time to time if I should get something and 95% of the time she'll give me the nod. She even took me to a toy/collectibles store and told me to pick out a couple of things that I wanted for my last bday and for my bday coming up in a couple of weeks, she got me a photo cube to take better pics as an early bday present. At the same time I doubt she really cares as much as I care about some of the things that she enjoys but thats what separates us as being individuals and I can appreciate that. Good topic Rex!

Glad you like it Omega my man. I forgot to mention that my chick is hardcore into Twilight and Harry Potter. Which I myself enjoy both of those things as well, One day I would like to take her to The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter...I guess after she becomes a morgue tech(yeah she's a bit morbid but I love it) and I get my odd jobs going, we might just do that.

I know what you mean, the nerdy women I've met are not all that feminine. Seems like only Hollywood makes nerdy girls hot - they just stick glasses on a hot girl & tell her to act like a nerd.

No, she is not. She's a TV buff, but mostly dramas, comedies and reality shows. She really dislikes cartoons in general, but since having kids she has grown to appreciate some of the good ones (Phineas & Ferb, for example).

I would say yes. We just had this conversation yesterday on our way out of Game Stop. She loves video games and considers Game Stop as her Mecca. She also realized that she was as geeky as the guys who work at the store. Some of them are eff'in out there. lol I swear I heard them having a pretend light saber battle as we were walking out.

She gets excited about new games like I do about new toys. She is getting into cartoons and even knows Marvel, DC, Gi Joe, and MOTU characters. I don't know if I can send her off on her own to get me that certian fig but it's a start.

I don't feel as though I'm geeky, so she couldn't be "geeky as well" by extension.

That said, she isn't a geek either.

Yes, but in her own way. She doesn't collect toys, but does read comics and is an avid gamer and views animation like I do as just a medium to convey a story or comedy, though FPS games tend to piss her off. >.> That might be my fault though. When playing multi, I have a tendency to not wait for the name to pop up before sniping her, and then end up getting whacked upside the head because i keep killing her.

But yet you collect toys and dont consider yourself a bit geeky or nerdy? Its a pretty varied term anyway and is slang for a lot of different things and I think we all somehow fit into that category. Way how I see it is you collect toys like the rest of us which isnt the norm for society and in a room full of people, youd probably be looked at strange for admitting that your hobby is collecting childrens toys. Face it, your a geek.

My wife and I met online playing RPG (old online dice roller and such). We share a great love for Books and Sci-Fi in any medium. She is not into my plastic crack, but does support it (bought the Big MF for me years back because I mentioned it at TRU). She picks up figures for me on occasion but does not go on hunts with me often. This past month she green lit me to get my casting materials together so I can now cast my own parts. As long as we share some hobbies and together time she is more than happy to allow me my 'toy time' so she can do what she likes.

The word geek is a slang term, with different meanings ranging from "a computer expert or enthusiast" to "a carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts", with a general pejorative meaning of "a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp[ecially] one who is perceived to be overly intellectual".

So yeah, I still don't consider myself a geek.

You say that as a joke but it's true. There's a lot of times I can't even TALK to my wife because she's counting stitches on something she's knitting and can't lose track!

While my girlfriend doesn't share my enthusiasm for collecting toys to the level that I do, she does have a few little figures here and there and she does think the Lego minifigs are cute.

We do "geek out" over other things together though... We're big Super Mario fans, and we love to play the games together when we can. And we do get excited about the shows like Supernatural and Game of Thrones, so at least it's something we can enjoy together.

Not usually, in High School, I couldn't really afford to be geeky, and I don't mean that in a figurative sense. I mean that quite literally, I didn't have the money to be geeky in the whole toy collecting sense. Also, I didn't really get into computers until halfway through High School so needless to say, I'm not physically geeky (whatever that means).

After High School, I began my journey into geekdom with various IT related professions and a renewed passion for toys, certain cartoons, video games and comics. The girl I datest for the longest time wasn't really a geek, she tried really hard to be cool and to fit in but often, she would get really hooked to things that I was into like video games, some cartoons and some of my comics. She even chose a geeky profession in IT. She could be a real bitch about my hobbies, though, and that definitely pissed me off. Other girls I've dated range from insanely geeky to not at all geeky.

I've got to say, though, that I prefer a good balanced girl who isn't overly geeky but doesn't hate everything I'm into, either. I find girls that are insanely geeky really annoying and sometimes I just can't stand them, at all. This is especially the case with the "otaku" girls who are waaay too into anime and feel the need to drop in Japanese words and baby talk into everything they say. Also don't want a girl who just talks about video games and comics and shit all day long. Sometimes you just don't want to come home to another dude.

Also, I find a lot of girls like that are a bit sociopathic and harbour a huge resentment for the people they knew through K-12 and often their own families and just can't let anything go. I'm sure not all geeky girls are like that and hell, if you hated the popular kids, then maybe you'd LIKE a girl like that. That's cool by me. Why did I even respond to this? I'm single, at the moment. LOL. Oh and it's important to say that you can have geeky hobbies without being physically geeky like Steve Urkel. If you're both, then, I don't know. That's ok... As far as girls go, though. NO. Absolutely not. I can't stand girls that are physically geeky and they do exist.

Blackrazor hit the nail on the head. MOST geeky girls I've met are not hot. The ones that are, physically, somehow ruin this with other qualities. LOL. We men can be just as shallow as women are. Also, I'm sure a lot of you guys can agree, a lot of us work hard to get to a certain point and we deserve to be with someone that we find both physically and emotionally attractive. You can talk about what's inside all you want but when I have to lay with the girl in the long term, she'd damn well better be something that I want to look at.

Amen brother!

They say people come with baggage & we know women come with some drama. Well if I'm going to put up with her drama, she darn well better be worth it! I see some guys with drama queen women are are not attractive or fit & I think poor guy! I see no value in his relationship with her & based on the look on his face, neither does he but he's probably in too deep & trapped.
