I got my case of wave 2 just now!
Too freakin exhausted to go into much detail yet but the Warriors Three look amazing, Helmeted Thor is a big disapointment and the light up Destroyer is an amazing suprise!

I only opened the Destroyer so far but I'll tell you I was suprised at his good articulation and chunky size-
He's about 4.25" tall- as tall a Apocalypse. That makes him perfect for the comics' version.
He's got some nice articulation for a gimmicky figure too- his waist/torso does not twist as the light up buton is there and his shoulders are not ball joints, but his hips are the same ball joints as the IM2 figures and move easily without being loose. Knees are the MU double joint. Arms both bend at the elbow and have the swivel there and his ankles move but are not rockers.
I guess the light up feature is supposed to make the head glow in the dark or something beacuse the head is smoky translucent.
It'll be cake to get an extra modern Thor, put his head on this body and have him holding the helmet in the crook on one arm, Mjolnir in the other. Just add the cape and you've gor a recipie for badass!

Just for kicks, I stood him up next to Mistique- the Destroyer is two and a half heads taller!
Huh...with all this Asgard goodness, I'll have to dig up my Enchantress!

Gotta wait till tomorrow night- I'm running late for work in a Peter Parker kinda way!

Did open Volstagg though- amazing likeness with the movie actors in this line- he looks fantastic and his wrists tirn so he can hold that big double-bladed axe two handed!

despite the disracting ginat spring loaded gimmick weapons this line includes, their actual weapons are suuperb!

Fandrall's sword (though a cutalss!) Volstagg's axe and Hogun's mace are perfect little replicas from the movie.

Now....I need Sif!

My roommmate commented that Volstgg looks like a scaled up, Asgardian Gimli- and I can not disagree!

I forgot who said it, but someone said "they look like a bunch of guys that hang out at Renaissance Festivals. That's probably the most accurate description to date.

Got my set of series 2/3 from BBTS yesterday, and I have to say, Hasbro really seems committed to putting the bare minimum of effort into this line. The later series figures do have strong paint apps, but the overall feel is "cheaper" than series one. The only figure I'm now missing is Fandral (who for some bizarre reason didn't come with this set).

But anyway, while the figures do get some stuff right/cool, there are some really boneheaded design moves involved here that honestly just baffle me:

"Ice Axe" King Laufey: Surprisingly, Laufey is an almost all-new mold, not just a reuse of the Frost Giant. However, what would otherwise be an excellent figure is damaged by two things: One...he doesn't come with an axe! He comes with the same mace/club and helmet that the other Frost Giants do, and that's it. Seriously, Hasbro? You named the figure "Ice Axe" Laufey and couldn't be bothered to give him an Ice Axe even though you actually have one already molded (see the deluxe Frost Giant)? Secondly, the joints where the hip-balls plug into the torso are so loose that it's VERY hard to get him to stand up (though this may be unique to my figure, it struck me as a mold flaw and not an isolated thing because it was SO loose).

Hogun the Grim: His "non action feature" weapon is made of the softest plastic I've yet seen used by Hasbro, and the way his feet are sculpted makes it darn near impossible to get him to stand without using a figure stand of some sort.

"Asgardian Glow" Odin: The plus side to this figure is that this repaint looks vastly superior to the two other variants of Odin that are out there. Seriously, it's a nice looking figure and probably the best "default" Odin yet. The bad news? Still no helmet, still no spear (or any non-action-feature accessories), and he doesn't "glow" in any way, shape, or form. Between this and Laufey there seems to have been a serious disconnect somewhere, especially since this was originally listed as "All-King Odin" which would have been fine.

King Loki: It's the helmeted Loki we all wanted, and not a bad figure...except that Hasbro once again couldn't be bothered to sculpt Odin's spear. Seriously Hasbro...you could even have just sculpted the projectile that Loki's "launcher" fires to look like the spear and you would've pretty much been set.

The Destroyer: Probably the best fig of the lot. Loses a touch due to a lack of ball-jointed shoulders and no Torso articulation, but with an unobtrusive action feature, a nice sculpt, and being decently "beefy" in terms of size, you probably won't mind.

Volstagg: About the only figure in these two waves they managed to get right. No odd articulation choices, and comes with a decent non-action feature/movie accurate weapon. Rivals Destroyer for "least disappointing of the bunch."

Helmeted Thor: It's Thor, with a helmet. There are two versions. No overly significant flaws on either, though most will probably prefer the more movie-accurate paintscheme version, and the helmet-sculpted head just doesn't look that great.

Something all the figures seem to suffer from is a degree of blandness. On the movie screen these characters were colorful and really "popped" in terms of costuming, but somehow in being translated to 3 3/4" form a lot of that vibrancy is muted (except on the Frost Giant characters, and possibly the "Asgardian Glow" Odin). But between poorly-labeled figures, ultra soft plastic, and the lack of some key accessories it really seems like Hasbro only wants to put minimal effort into this line.

I say you're mad! MAD!
Really, stick Volstagg next to the MU Modern Thor nad they look amazing- not goofy like Volstagg is in the comics, but still definite;y Asgardian. the Volstagg figure (all warrior's three) look perfec next to Modern Thor- just skip movie thor altogether!

Thats the point right there. Its not that Volstagg is a poorly made figure per se, it's that its a figure of an ACTOR...and frankly that's what kills this line.

An actor that has minimal on-screen time versus the Volstagg depiction from the comics which has much more history. The Warriors 3 should have been comic figures. Sif too.

Yeah, because a ridiculously fat guy in fuschia with a gold beanie is sure to be a big hit with the kids. Shades of Jabba's Fat Dancer (Another "collector requested figures" that ended up one of the worst pegwarmers in the modern Star Wars line's history).

The Warriors Three would pegwarm like crazy as single-carded figures. With the possible exception of Hogun, they'd look incredibly silly. They'd be a great multi-pack exclusive, though. Or a late year "team pack" (hint hint Hasbro).

HA! I thought the exact same thing at thte pegs full of Star Wars Aunt Beru and that fat dude with the bucket from Cloud City!
Really? What the hell kind of accessory is a white bucket to a kid?

I'd have prefered the Comic versions of fandrall and Hogun, though once you start playing mix & match, no one's going to be happy.

But yeah, a Thor Comoc line with just Odin, Thor and Loki from the movie line also available would have been best.

I really want a destroyer, and Hemindrall sp?, king odin and king loki, and warriors 3 and sif, but it's gonna be hard... limited selection my way, also the 8'' Destroyer. But I wish they did a comic line Loki and Thor, they could of had 2pack face offs, odin vs frost giant king, thor and loki, and sif + the warriors 3 box set.

I know people hate repacks, but a Comic Pack with the Loki from the GB set and any of the comic Thors, would be cool. I don't need either, but I'm sure plenty of people still would like that Loki.. if I didn't get the Frost Giant GB set in a trade here I still wouldn't have one. The only set of that I saw in stores had the Loki stolen from the package.

INstead of GB Loki (which is awesome, BTW) I'd love to see a two pack with the new Classic thor (useing the one from that Avengers #1 box set coming up) and Loki with the short wings on his crown- and a cape! Or Loki in his full walt simonson badassery- shoulder armor, cape, big horns, etc.

Bought Odin and the Minimates version for the helmet/spear conversion.
Did an black enamel wash on him then used Testors' gold on all the gold parts of his armor (adding a few here and there) and I gotta say, he looks freakin' great.

POsting pics with my new camera tomorrow.

Kudos again to the Arker that first made that Minimates call (too tired to recall who).
